Good ventilation, even on low setting
I wanted to put my PS4 Pro into a cabinet but it has an enclosed shelf (47cm wide x 21cm high) with only an 8cm hole for cables at the back. Air circulation is further restricted by a bulky CD player. Perhaps not surprisingly, when fitted in the shelf, the PS4 overheated quite quickly and the fan became very noisy. The outlet vents of a PS4 are in the back and the intake vents are in the sides so hot air was building up in the enclosed space and getting drawn back in through the intakes.I used a 120mm hole saw to cut two neat holes in the back panel of the cabinet and installed the twin 120mm fans to blow air out of the back. There are no mounting holes on the fans as such, but I took the back grille off for a flush fit and replaced the grub screws for the front grille with screws that go through the grille fixing holes, through the holes in the corner of the fan and into the back panel of the cabinet for a secure fixing. No grille on the back isn’t really an issue for this cabinet.The high setting is a bit noisy, the medium setting is about the same as the PS4 drive and the low setting is hardly noticeable over the PS4 at all. I thought I’d need at least the medium speed but in practice the low setting with two 120mm fans does a great job. In fact I reckon the PS4 runs cooler than it did sitting outside of the cabinet. The twin fans are working in series with the exhaust fan from the PS4 to blow the hot air out of the back of the cabinet and I can actually feel cooler air being drawn in at the front. If I wriggle my hand through to the back of the shelf, even when the console has been working hard, it’s still nice and cool.So I’ve got the fans set to low speed. Plugged into a USB port on the PS4 they come on when it’s switched on and go off when it’s fully powered down. They do stay on during its rest/charging mode but they aren’t really troublesome on the low setting. Watching TV or listening to music is fine with the fans still running on low. It’s all very neat and tidy now.

I bought these as they were much cheap(er) than the “proper” setup from AC Infinity. My system is as follows:-Enclosed TV Cabinet, glass front, 2 shelves. No vents apart from 1 3″ hole at the back of each shelf for cables to pass through.-Xbox One X Top Shelf-Marantz AVR Bottom ShelfThe reason I was looking for fans is that with the door closed, the Xbox One X will shutdown with a thermal protection message after around 1 hour of playing games. Also, the Xbox fan runs at full speed to try and fight a losing battle. When you open the door, a wall of heat rolls out to meet you. Not good.The good news. I installed the double fan unit from ELUTENG inside the cabinet. One fan draws cool air in at the bottom shelf, the other blows the hot air out through the hole at the back of the top shelf. After testing for just over an hour, the cabinet was nice and cool and the Xbox One X fan was on low speed throughout the test so was nice and quiet. So if you need to cool a cabinet down and don’t want to spend more than a tenner.. These will do the job.HOWEVER (you knew this was coming). Before purchasing, I browsed the reviews. Some said it was “virtually silent”, others were that it was noisy and they have to switch them off when watching a movie. Here is the first problem. There is no switch, you have to physically unplug them to switch them off. The do not have any thermal sensors so they are on full speed all of the time. To be fair, this is exactly as described this is how they are supposed to work. I plugged mine into my Xbox One X USB port. Unfortunately, this port is powered even when the Xbox is off so they run all of the time (again as advertised).The problem is the noise. Now here is the second problem. Different people have different opinions on what is loud and what is silent. I thought I would try and help anyone else thinking about these fans by comparing them to something similar in noise so you can get an idea of how noisy they are without me just telling you super silent or noisy.Bear in mind my fans are inside an enclosed cabinet with the door closed, against a wall. All the airflow is at the back of the cabinet.Here is what I think of the noise level1. Instantly noticeable when you walk in the room with nothing turned on.2. My wife also noticed it when she walked in “what is that humming noise”3. If you drive, about the same noise as having your car fan on level 2 of 44. If you have a PC, about the same as a graphics card fan on full speed with you sat next to the PC5. Slightly louder than an Xbox fan on full speed, with the xbox sat on top of a tv cabinetI build PCs myself and I’m quite sharp on fan noise as I don’t like it. I recently replaced some fans that had worn bearings because the increased fan bearing noise was annoying. These are brand new and I’m not suggesting they are poorly made but they sound like a 3-5 year old PC fan that has some bearing noise. I’m not talking about mechanical noise,I mean the kind of white noise, air flowy, windy sound that a noisy fan makes.But they are a tenner. There’s nothing in this price point that runs on USB power AFAIK that compares to them as and I mentioned earlier, they work really well at keeping an enclosed TV cabinet cool. Personally, I can’t live with the noise so I’m going to return them and rethink this. There are solutions as mentioned by the big boys AC Infinity. Getting this kit in the UK is a challenge and you may have to import. Another solution would be the USB kit from coolerguys on here they sell pretty much equivalent stuff. I’m going to get a USB fan controller with a thermal sensor so the fans are not on all of the time (these may even work with such a controller, not sure might be worth a test before I send them back). All of these is going to cost at least 5-6 times the price of just these fans so its hard to complain.Bottom line: If you want a simple setup and not bothered about noise, on all the time. These will do the job.

Benutze die 2x 40er Lüfter am USB Anschluss einer Fritzbox 6690 mit einem selbstgebauten Alu-Halter um die Box aktiv zu kühlen (da sie in einem Fach steht) und das funktioniert einwandfrei. Lüfter stehen aus Stufe Low und sind leise …. Was die Langlebigkeit der Lüfter angeht kann ich noch nichts sagen.Grüsse
