Nice kit lens
Good cheap kit lens – had its predecessor on a D100. Smaller and lighter – better pictures with a better camera, good way to get into using the new camera giving me time to work out Canon’s complex camera system and what to by for the long term. Allowed me to buy a better body D80 vs D77 so worth it while I save pennies for a better lens.

Inexpensive zoom lens for my Eos 80D, dark as the minimum aperture is f/4.0 but stabilization is the feature I needed
Great zoom lens. I chose it because it is stabilized where my nifty fifty is not. at 18mm, faces are slimmed down ang look ugly but great for landscapes; the best focal length on my EOS 80D is the 24mm or 35mm, when used on a slider, tripod. I have to test it on my Neewer steadycam. The aperture at 24mm is 4.5 and at 35mm it is 5.0 so the picture is dark.

Feels much more robust than the previous kit lens.Though about half a stop slower than the lens it replaced this one is not only more compact but feels sturdier and more robust.The STM motor is quiet and fast and as the front portion doesn’t twist let’s hope that attaching a lens hood does break the autofocus which was the demise of the kit lens that came with the camera.

This lens was exactly what I was looking for, delivered promptly at a great price.First, a word about the dealer, Grace Photo. They were prompt, delivered exactly the product I wanted. The product was new, and wrapped well in a white box inside the shipping box. That a dealer would deliver what they say seems like a given, but on this lens there seems to be some confusion. I have included photos of the lens I got: it is clearly the Canon 18-55 f4.0 lens. Another review says he received the older f3.5 lens, and, while I can’t speak to his experience, I got what I was looking for. The confusion comes about, I think, because the headline description on the Amazon page says describes the f4.0 lens, but the extended description in the lower part of the Amazon page describes the f3.5 product. For what it is worth, I had no problem registering the lens on the Canon registration page.As far as the lens goes, I was looking for a good âknock aroundâ lens. I have several Canon prime lenses (24 f2.8, 50 f1.4, and 85 f1.8), and several zoom lenses, including the 10-22 and 18-200. The 24 convinced me that a light weight, easy to carry lens is often more likely to be thrown in the bag at the last moment over a larger and seemingly more versatile lens. The lens build quality is good, focusing is quiet and precise: it is far quieter than even the USM lenses mentioned. At just a bit over $100 I won’t be devastated if it gets dinged, and carrying it while touring won’t be so grinding as some of my other lenses.Altogether this has been a positive experience: a most satisfactory dealer experience combined with a product that perfectly fills the bill for me.Ok
