Solar box and cover for new doorbell
As there is alot of movement passing my video doorbell the battery wears down quickly, I don’t wish to turn off motion sensor as it detects all sorts. So to help with the battery consumption I enquired with support if a solar charger was available which they advised me this item was best to have.Ordered and arrived within 1 day, installed by the evening and working well so far very pleased and looks nice too. Just need to stop dropping the security screw!!

Don’t waste your money
So I bought this so that I wouldn’t have to keep bringing my doorbell inside to charge it every week as its a pain to take off with the screws etc, thinking a solar powered charger would be great because it would keep it charged up & I could leave it in place to be used as a doorbell constantly without any needing to bring it in to charge…HOWEVER this is not the case at all. In fact, it doesn’t even do anything except tell me that its connected to a solar power deviced. The battery is dying a LOT faster whilst being plugged into this so called charger & it doesn’t charge or even hold the power for my doorbell. During daylight hours, it is in the sun so it should actually be charging but its not.So my verdict… Only buy it if you want a fancy looking doorbell holder that doesn’t actually charge your doorbell. Only reason I’m going to keep on using this now is because I was silly enough to throw my previous one away…

Itâs been an absolute game changer! I highly recommend it, easy to mount, it can be screwed into the wall or stuck on to the door. The battery life hasnât gone below 73% on a cloudy day. Fits the Ring camera perfectly.

Very Good
I use a Ring doorbell. It has to be removed in order to charge it up, so every 2-3 weeks, I have to take those fiddly screws out, then plug it into a USB port on one of my kitchen sockets. I know that Ring can’t make it easy, as if they did, it would be a target for thieves.However, as it’s such a pain, I decided to buy a Ring solar charger, which goes behind the unit. That looked good, but it was almost useless, as all it did was slow the rate of discharge a wee bit. I still had to charge the unit up every 2-4 weeks.I bought this aftermarket solar charger in the certainty that it couldn’t be any worse than the Ring solar charger.First impressions weren’t good. One of the top solar panels hadn’t been glued down properly and was hanging loose. Instead of sending the whole thing back, I used a spot of Gorilla glue and fixed it myself.Fitting wasn’t easy. It’s a pretty tight fit to get the Ring bell into the housing, but eventually I managed to complete the installation.I think that it looks like a Swiss Cuckoo-Clock, but I’ll live with it. It really does works, though! Over the past two months, which are Winter months, it started off at a charged 100%. In two months it has gone as low as 57%, but is currently standing at 77%, which shows that it’s working.I don’t mind having to charge the bell a couple of times a year if I have to, so if the full-winter sunlight only slows down the discharge, then I’ll be happy with the unit.ADDENDUM 29th AUGUST 2024I haven’t had to remove the doorbell to charge the unit since I installed the solar charger. It hovers between 70-79% most of the time. Excellent!29th DECEMBER 2024At long last, I had to charge the doorbell by removing it from the solar housing and plugging it into a USB socket. That’s VERY good going, and a very good purchase!

Waste of money
Stopped charging after a few weeks. Took apart to find the charging wire ( where it plugs into the bell) was in bits. Irreparable ð¤·ð»ââï¸

It’s difficult to quatify
Well, I’ve only just set it up, last night. Now, following recommendations, I manually charged it to 100% first before attaching the solar panel and, well, here’s where it gets strange because it SEEMS to work and keep it at 100% and yet, there is no other indication that it’s working, eg, I would expect it to say “Charging by solar” or something like that, yet it just says the same “Charge by battery” it did before. Plus, before I got this and just charged it with a battery, it would also stay at 100% for a while anyway, so I’m not sure if it’s really working or not. The other problem is I’ve not had much sunshine today and obviously, that will be another factor, presuming it is working at all. So that’s it for now, this is a tentative review which I will update as soon as anything further develops but all I can say for now is it APPEARS to be working, albeit very discreetly.***Update*** So, yes, it’s exactly as I thought, it definitely works but it works in a very strange kind of way that might fool some into thinking it’s not working, I can see why some think it doesn’t work, the manufacturers are not doing themselves any favours by not explaining how it works properly to customers, they’re probably losing customers who will be sending it back for a refund, understandably thinking it’s a duff product. It fooled me too for a while but then when I checked some of the comments and what one person did following advice, it all began to make sense.For anyone buying this, the best thing to do is manually charge it to 100% first before installing the solar panel, because, for some reason, it won’t kick in if the charge is initially too low, and then, wait for some strong, direct sunlight to go on the panel, open up live feed to use some power, then check your device app and it should show “Charging”. In my case it doesn’t show “Solar” just ‘Battery” but that depends on your device, it should show “Charging” at least. Hope this helps someone else. Thanks.
