Eve Motion (Matter) – Smart indoor and outdoor motion sensor with light sensor, smart control of devices, Thread, works with Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings, requires Thread Border Router

Matter-enabled sensor works well with Google Home and Home Assistant
Unlike the Homekit version, the Matter-enabled version of Eve’s motion sensor works straight out of the box with Google Home. I used a Nest Hub (2nd gen) as a Thread Border Router and, after inserting the batteries, the sensor was recognised immediately and a quick scan of the Matter QR code (using the Google Home app) completed the registration process. Two separate sensors then appear in Google Home – a motion sensor and a light sensor. Disappointingly, whilst both sensors work, they don’t appear to be currently supported as triggers when creating a Google Home automation.Fortunately, the motion and light sensors can be linked from Google Home to Home Assistant where – provided you’ve installed the Thread and Matter add-ons – both work fine and can be used as triggers or conditions in HA automations. The battery level of the sensor is also accessible within Home Assistant.

Eve motion sensors
Bought these to automate our smart lights even further. They work incredibly well, and the level of customisation via the Eve app is fantastic. They work incredibly motion detection sensitivity can be set, though the even the most sensitive can have me bobbing my head around to get it to notice me if I’m stood still. They’re a small size so therefore unobtrusive. Great value for money and so easy to install.

Works with Homekit
After returning an Aqara sensor which would not work with HomeKit this one has worked straight away. Simple tweak has got it working at night only and turns on and off with presence detection. I am very pleased. It would be nice to have some better mounting options but it’s a minor gripe.

Set up issues
The only advice I can give is patience. The device is good if you manage to persevere with the setup. The Eve app itself failed to set it up at all – after several iPhone restarts and sensor device hard resets (using pin in battery compartment). Then I thought I would restart all HomePods in my house and all Apple TVs (all thread devices). No luck. Tried installing directly via HomeKit on iPhone no luck. I finally repeated everything as before, and tried using my iPad (no luck with Eve app again, but managed to finally set it up via Apple home app/homekit on ipad). There is zero logic to this, so just keep playing around. Eve really should be easier, it is a premium device and matter is supposed to solve connection troubles. And yes, all firmware was up to date, that wasn’t the issue. I should also mention this is review is for a replacement I ordered as first one drained batteries flat in 2 days – clearly faulty. I hope this one proves to be a good purchase, time will tell. But in my experience Eve devices aren’t worth the premium. There are better and more cost effective options out there.

Would have gotten a 5star if only manufacturer would include a screw and/or a patch of double-sticky tape to mount sensor. Not the cheapest sensor and then still need to make a trip to the hardware store to go and find 1 screw that fits.

Als ie het doet is het goed maar na 2 dagen niet ie steeds worden gereset omdat hij dan weer niet reageert.Geen aanrader helaas. Mijn ander me producten van Eve werken wel naar tevredenheid.
