Was skeptical but so glad I bought this
I installed this a couple of days ago. I decided not to charge the battery to 100% before installing so I could get a better (& quicker) idea if it was working or not because looking at some of the reviews (the good ones), it looks like it doesn’t full charge to 100%. So when I installed it a couple of days ago, it was at 40%. It was good news, it charged from 40% to 77% in 1 full day. It hasn’t gone over 77% yet, it may not do at all. This is probably the battery sweet spot, being at 100% constantly, probably wouldn’t do the battery any good. Obviously installing it in June helps and it does work very well. I will have to see what it’s like in December though but my hopes are high! Game changer.Update 6/1/25:My doorbell has held charge since I installed the solar panel on the 7/6/24. Obviously the charge hasn’t been as high during the autumn/winter months. It has stayed around the 40 & 50% mark and not in the 70’s like it was in the summer. A couple of weeks ago (shortest day) it went as low as 32% and I was very close to taking it off and charging it on the mains. I was fairly determined not to do this though (another day or two then I would have) and it has since climbed back up to 50%. Luckily we went away from the gloom and back to the sunnier days again. I think there is a good chance of it lasting all year (without it needing mains charging), especially as the days are now getting longer. I will confirm this at a later date!Final update/conclusionI can confirm the doorbell has been connected to the solar charger for just over a year and I haven’t had to bring it inside to charge. The only month when there was possibly some doubt was December (around the shortest day) but even then it just about held enough charge and I didn’t need to intervene. One of the main benefits of this solar charger is , I’ve not had to be economical with the settings and I’ve pretty much maxed out on most of them (apart from snapshot capture). Just to give you an example of the settings that use extra power that I have utilised whilst using this solar charger, listed below..Motion frequency – frequentVideo length – 2minutesColour night vision – onMotion sensitivity – max(I have snapshot capture disabled but it does give you the option of 5 minute intervals when connected to a solar charger instead of just 14 minutes)Also smart alerts are on (I use people only in the winter and people and all motion in the summer). I don’t use package alerts.Average daily amount of motion detection notifications – 50-100This has been a great buy!

    Perfect for ring doorbell
Perfect for my ring door cam, easy to set up. Keeps the charge going perfectly even in low light. Brought it around winter time, so that was the real test and it passed. Would definitely recomentld this if you have a door cam

    It works!
With such a variety of mixed reviews, I was a bit concerned about ordering this in case it didn’t work, given the price. However, having decided to just try it by keeping the solar panel inside my bedroom window, which faces south-west, and dropping the wire down to the bell just below, I soon discovered, much to my delight, that it did work for me. The battery was showing 80% when I fitted the panel and with only half a day of sunlight, it went up to 81%. Result! However, after a few days of rain and yet more rain, it went down to 75% and hovered between that and 76% but I was still happy with that result. Since then I have had it fitted to the front of my downstairs extension where it gets the sun from about 9.30 to 10.00 in the morning until it sets and it is currently up to 89%, even though we have had a mixture of rain, bright light and happily, quite a lot of sun. For myself, I am very happy with the results and would recommend it as long as you are able to position the solar panel where it gets plenty of bright light and sun. However, I do wish I had noticed that you can get it in black, as the white panel and its’ attached wire running across the roof stick out like a sore thumb!! Ah well, I can’t deduct a star for that as it is my own fault for not looking properly. You live and learn, don’t you!!

keeps the video doorbell constantly charged (so far, summer) but no good in winter
Pleased with this solar charger, bought it to keep the battery topped up without having to remove the camera from the system to manually charge up the battery, seems to work ok dropping to around 70% then self charging to 99% will see how it works when we get into the winter months, I suspect I will have to occasionally remove the camera and do a manual charge / top up the normal way, will post up here in a few months to update the performance, installation was simple everything that’s required is included in the kit.Edited 16th OCTOBER 2024Been on almost 2 months and working well battery charge range between 74 and 95 % seems to be maintaining a good charge so far will edit again in another few months.Edited 31st December 2024As suspected the solar panel isn’t much good in the winter months, tried to make sure it was getting maximum exposure to the limited sun but alas my camera battery dropped to 28%, now on the mains charger indoors, was expecting this so can’t say I’m surprised, at least it’s not too bad during the summer months, if it’s possible to get access to to an nearby suitable electric supply I’d probably go for a mains charger permanently fitted for the winter and solar for summer, might investigate this idea further.

not compatible with ring doorbell 4
Not compatible with my ring doorbell 4.I thought I had checked that the ring 4 was 2nd generation before ordering, but its not very clear. The battery life on the doorbell is very poor, only about 4 weeks. and its slow to charge.missed the return window, because bad weather meant I couldn’t install it. so now stuck with it.
