    Perfect for the job
I bought this addition to my Ring alarm as we were experiencing people entering into our properties while we were sleeping and trying the car’s doors. It was a bit challenging to install using the screws as we wanted to install it on our metal gate, so we ended up using the adhesive. I could not be more pleased with it. It’s easy to setup and does the job perfectly. I have enjoyed looking at the face of the thief when she tried to open the gate and set off the alarm in the middle of the night. Watching here running away in shock was priceless. I would absolutely recommend this product if you have external doors or gates to monitor. You can also set it up to chirp every time someone opens the gate and it also send you a notification (so you know when the postman is there, before they ring the bell).

    Good range
The device has the nice branding with rounded edges and a good colour for an outside detector that won’t be noticed. The base plates slide off neatly so you can mark the holes for drilling. Rawl plugs and screws are included and a fine for the job. I was a little concerned about the range, but the Z-wave protocol seems to do the job: my security gate is around 50m from the base station (which is itself two rooms from the house wall) and in the shadow of a few neighbours’ fences due to the shape of my plot. I was ready to consider moving the range extender which came with my original ring package, but it wasn’t necessary. As with the rest of “Ring”, I like the programmability of devices; separate (push) notifications for “opening” and “closing” which are also available whether or not the alarm is being armed. I checked the Alexa integration and it was fine immediately. No problems at all.Addendum: I had to return it after some weeks as it was too sensitive for my outside driveway gates. Wind blowing them just a few mm set it off. Needs some sort of sensitivity or calibration control.Would be fine for locking gates and the like though.

    Excellent Heavy Duty Sensor
First impressions were horrendous battery consumption despite sitting litteraly 2m away from a range extender. Ring customer support monitored my system and promptly replaced the sensor (erratic) with a new one. Brilliant function outdoors, easy to attach to wood or iron garage door.

    Piece of mind
As with other indoor ring contact sensors, this was a doddle to set-up. It’s little larger, but just as easy to install and appears very robust. I kept getting a tampered notification, but think this was due to the positioning on my garden door. Changed the position and works perfectly now. Really adds to my piece of mind knowing I can monitor my garden door (as well as my entire home) whilst away. If you find the indoor contact sensors invaluable, this will be a great addition to your home security.

Much bigger than expected – But excellent for outdoor use.
I purchased a whole Ring alarm system setup + some extra sensors etc, this being one of them for my gate. The normal ring door sensors are quite small, smaller than I expected and I thought the Outdoor one was going to be very similar sized just grey, so I was VERY surprised to see its more the size of your fist. But, that makes sense really considering its outdoor and clearly built with a lot more weatherproofing in mind, and the range between the sensor & the magnet is very good for well, my use which was a garden gate.I did find the “Tamper” alert was a bit finicky, I found since I screwed both pieces into my gate and the mounting bracket twisted/bent ever so slightly which was all it took for the “Tamper” message to trigger so I had to unscrew it and screw the mounting bracket back ensuring it wasn’t too tight but still secure and it clipped into place / tamper message disappeared and hasn’t returned since. All in all, so far I’m loving the Ring security system.

    Tamper too sensitive, false alarms.
I installed this sensor on my summer house door.First impression was this sensor was very chunky, but made for outdoors assumed it was a bit more robust than the others.Installed it as suggested, and used screws to ensure it was secure. Having read other reviews, made sure these weren’t tight, and cases fitted well.Alarm went off while we were away from home, saying the sensor had been tampered with.Reset the alarm. It went off again, and again. Having a ring camera, could see no one had gone near it.Removed the sensor, reset it, re-installed with just the sticky strips.Again, tamper alerts. Lots of them. Checked connectivity, no issues there, the app could see every time I opened and closed the door. In the end, frustrated, I Decided to remove and return this sensor, as it’s just not worth the hassle. In my opinion, it’s not worth the extra money.Have used a normal indoor sensor, and it works perfectly.

Up and running in less than 10 minutes.
Very easy to install and setup. Connected to our side gate, which is not too far from a router, so connected immediately and was up and running in less than 10 minutes.Cannot comment about the longevity yet, but has been installed over winter without any issues or false alerts. Still on its first battery after 5 months, so that seems good.

Far larger and a little flimsier than expected
Compared to the indoor contact sensor, this one is almost double in size. The contact sensor works well and has a good tolerance of reach if you can install the sensor and contact snug against each other. One issue I do have is the contact piece protrudes significantly and an accidental knock can detach it from the base mount.
