Really excellent addition to a home full of Alexa controlled plugs purchased over the last 10 years.
Best feature is the dedicated Alexa functionality; I really have disliked using plugs that need software set up on my phone first. However blind panic when setting them up. Did not seem to connect initially and I had to reset at least two of the plugs using the button on the top of the plug. Everything was occuring to me not least that because I had bought them from the warehouse that they might be faulty. They were not faulty and because I bought them from the warehouse they were delivered the next day and not in several months time.In fact they are perfect. Their profile means they can be used in sockets where space is tight or where I use a two way adaptor and I am pleased I did not give up setting them up.As an aside for anyone using magnetic extension usb power leads it is my experience that for some equipment [A Tablet] the plug may draw too much power. Other equipment such as rechargable screwdriver, mini hoover and glue gun all charge as expected but the tablet seems not to charge. It may be because the double socket which is always on and has 2 of these plugs in the same socket as well as 2 built-in usb pugs in the socket may be the issue.Regardless they have proved excellent value and size for my purposes. Where I use one as a plug to a strip light Alexa has decided she wants to identify the plug as a light… with my permission of course!

Very effective for lamp control
I got this on offer and decided to use it for my standing lamp, linked to an amazon dot device. I’d hardly used the dot but began to use both and was happy with it, as it could turn on a normal bulb in the lamp. I like it for security as I can have the smart bulb plugged in downstairs and use the dot voice command to turn it on and off , with the dot upstairs. Handy if I’m in on my own and hear voices outside, as it indicates to anyone passing by that there’s someone in the house. I believe you can set a programme for the light to turn on and off, which would be good while I’m on holiday. However, I’ve now found out that amazon records conversations and commands to alexa. I found out how to delete the recordings and will now only plug this device and plug in when I specifically need to use it. Shame as I was beginning to use both the dot and plug a lot.

Fair, now good but width a problem
Not as easy to set up as the original Amazon Smart Plug. For some reason the frustration free setup failed and setting it up manually took several attempts.Unit is wider than a standard plug and may not fit in some dual sockets.Actual width 58.5 mm. It projects 41.2 mm from the power socket.Update: I have now fully configured the plug using a standard ADSL WIFI router with no problems. During configuration your configuration device needs to be within arms length of the plug as the Bluetooth range (only used during configuration) is very limited. Like many IoT products it is very difficult to configure using a cellular WIFI router, although once configured they often work with one – strange. In use the plug is slightly slower to respond that the original Amazon rectangular plug. There is a green LED that indicates output power on/off and the reset/override button is more accessible on the top.I will probably buy more. The advantage is that there is only one cloud interface, third-party devices often use their own cloud that then links to the Amazon cloud – two chances of downtime.Update: 2 of the 3 units were marked Amazon Warehouse. One was obviously a customer return and I never managed to set it up. The other AW works, but has low wi-fi sensitivity. It was not obvious from webpage that warehouse goods were to be supplied. Not very happy. Out of 3 bought, one new one works perfectly, one just about works and the third returned. Amazon can do better than this.UPDATE: I have recently purchased a four pack. These were definitely new and installed easily. These represent very good value for an Alexa cloud item.Another Update:There is a strange feature with these plugs that I have never come across before. Each time you command a change of switch state , OFF – ON or ON – OFF, the plug goes offline for about 2 minutes and then works normally. It looks as if the plug completes the command, reports back success and then does a reset before re-establishing WI-FI connection. The device reports ‘offline’ during this event. This accounts for the time interval. Why is a mystery, no other IoT device does this.

They work
We had a new WiFi hub delivered and all our smart plugs went off line. Being a third party installation for some reason I could not get them to connect back to Alexa. Saw these advertised and decided to try a couple to see how easy to install and did they work. Being over 75 and a technophobe I was concerned that I could not succeed in installing. However simple instruction to follow and two minutes later the first plug was installed. Tried the second and that went with no problems. Very impressed with how easy and simple to install these. Am now about to order some more to replace all my smart plugs.

Small form factor but load limitations – check before buying
Used to switch an awkward to reach socket. I use Hive plugs but in this case the physical size wouldn’t fit, this Alexa compatible plug has a small form factor so went in just fine. It worked straight away with Alexa. I took off 1 star because reading the instructions has a few limitations for the types of load including TVs. Its OK for what I am using it for but that does include a 24″ TV, but you need to check the application you want to use it for before buying.
