Please do not directly unplug the drives that is cloning data. Good value USB hard drive dock
I needed this to connect an 8TB hard drive to my computer and it worked fine. The device is shown on my computer and I can transfer data to it without any issues. I did not need to install any drivers and the computer recognised it as a usb hard drive.

great performance and ease of use be careful when using the cloning drive feature as it works too well managed to turn my 4 Tbyte drive into a 2 Tbyte drive as I wanted to transfer the information on my old 2 Tbyte drive so decided to use the clone feature, still trying to return the 4 Tbyte drive to it’s former capacity wish I had decided to just copy the one drive to the other now but apart from that it works well is great value and is really neat in appearance. doesnt seem to take up much space on the desktop and able to employ both my spare hard drives easily

Ease of use: very easy to link to laptop and send data to/from HDDs. I could not successfully clone a disk (in fact I could no longer read the source disk after trying – so make a copy of data before trying), however I have no need for this function so didn’t investigate further – so perhaps was doing something wrong.Appearance: The sides of the enclosure were of a darker grey colour than the photos suggest (this is better as it makes the item look less like an HDD toaster).Compatibility: contrary to another review, hard drives formatted and written-to using this enclosure could be read using another HDD/USB interface. This was confirmed by SSK Customer Services representative and I checked by formatting and writing to a 2.5″ HDD and successfully reading back using another interface.Customer Service: VERY fast and helpful response to my query.

I wish I’d had one of these years ago.
The story starts familiarly enough to just about anyone who relies on their computer. My PC decides to die and I am forced to replace it at great expense. Then comes the lesson about not counting your chickens etc. I had seen the PC death coming and backed up all my important files to my reliable external drive and patted myself on the back for having had such foresight. You can already tell what is going to happen, can’t you.Of course mid way through uploading my files to the new machine and my backup drive just stops responding. At all. Not matter what, I cannot get the computer to access anything on said drive. I am suddenly faced with losing a large amount of files which are quite important to me. I have only one hope, that just maybe I can access the old HDD from the dead machine. But to do this, I must have a device with which to access said drive. I proceed to place the order.Thus enters our hero, this amazing little HDD dock. Until now, all such devices that I had seen were expensive enclosures that were of little use to me and granted, I haven’t really looked for quite some time. I hate to think of all the cherished files that have been lost to PC death over the years. But now arrives this little dock and the game changes instantly. I plug everything in where they are meant to go and follow the prescribed procedure in the manual. And there they are, all my precious files still on the old HDD, ready to be liberated and moved to the new machine. So after learning to access the files through the Windows security settings, they are little by little given their new homes and the day is saved.But it doesn’t stop there, with the file transferred, this old HDD is just right to take it’s place as primary backup drive. So a somewhat quick format later, it takes on it’s new duties without any issues. All thanks to this HDD dock which has utterly revolutionised my data storage and recovery toolbox. From now on, I will always make sure that I own such a device.

Vorweg gesagt, ich habe diese Docking-Station weniger gekauft, um Festplatten damit zu klonen, vielmehr war es der letzte verzweifelte Versuch meine verschiedenen Festplatten unter USB 3.0 stabil ans Laufen zu bekommen. Und dieser Versuch hat sich gelohnt, denn mit den Gehäusen, die ich bisher gekauft hatte, traten zumindest bei einigen meiner Festplatten immer wieder Probleme auf, beim Schreibvorgang fiel die Datenübertragungsrate nach einem sehr schnellen Start immer wieder runter bis auf Null, blieb dort und Win10 hatte sich komplett aufgehängt. Das passierte auch beim vollständigen Formatieren und bei der Datensicherung. Von allen Seiten hörte ich, das könne nur daran liegen, daà meine Festplatten defekt wären. Meine verschiedenen Diagnoseprogramme bezeichneten den Zustand meiner Platten aber als gut. Und seltsam auch, daà die Platten an USB 2.0 Ports prima liefen, technisch bedingt natürlich dann sehr viel langsamer.Ich habe hier einen ganzen Stapel Festplatten, von 2009 bis gerade neu gekauft, mechanisch und SSD, SATA 300 und 600, von 256GB bis 2 TB, 2,5″ und 3,5″, Western Digital, Seagate, Samsung, Intenso… alles ist dabei.Was soll ich sagen: Keine einzige dieser Festplatten macht an dieser SSK Docking-Station unter USB 3.0 noch irgendwelche Probleme, das System läuft stabil! Nach dem Ãrger in der Vergangenheit ist mir allein diese Tatsache volle 5 Sterne wert. Wie gut die Klonfunktion arbeitet habe ich noch nicht ausprobiert.
