    Very easy to setup.

It is compact, measuring approximately 2.6 x 2.6 x 1.5 inches, and lightweight, making it easy to mount on walls or corners. The device also features an adjustable angle mount, allowing for flexible installation to cover a wide range of motion detection areas.### Installation and SetupThe installation process is straightforward and user-friendly. The device comes with all the necessary mounting hardware, including screws and adhesive tape. The Ring app guides users through the setup process with clear, step-by-step instructions. Most users can complete the installation in under 15 minutes. The motion detector connects wirelessly to the Ring Alarm Base Station, and the setup process includes a test mode to ensure proper placement and functionality.### Performance and ReliabilityOver the long term, the Ring Alarm Motion Detector (2nd Generation) demonstrates consistent performance. The device employs Passive Infrared (PIR) technology to detect motion up to 30 feet away within a 90-degree field of view. It effectively distinguishes between large and small objects, reducing the likelihood of false alarms triggered by pets or minor movements. The sensitivity settings can be adjusted via the Ring app, allowing customization based on the specific environment and user preferences. The motion detector integrates seamlessly with other Ring Alarm components, such as door/window sensors and cameras, providing comprehensive security coverage. Notifications are prompt and reliable, with minimal latency between motion detection and alert delivery.### Battery LifeThe device is powered by two AA batteries, which are included in the package. Under normal conditions, the batteries can last up to three years, a significant improvement over the first-generation model. The Ring app provides battery status updates, ensuring users are informed when replacements are needed. Long-term users report that battery life is consistent with the manufacturer’s claims, contributing to the device’s low maintenance requirements.### Integration with Ring Ecosystem and Smart Home SystemsThe Ring Alarm Motion Detector (2nd Generation) integrates smoothly with the broader Ring ecosystem. It works in tandem with Ring cameras, lights, and the Ring Alarm Base Station, creating a cohesive and responsive security system. The device is also compatible with Amazon Alexa, allowing users to control and monitor the system using voice commands. For smart home enthusiasts, the motion detector’s compatibility with third-party systems, like Z-Wave, enhances its versatility. This interoperability allows users to incorporate the device into a more extensive smart home setup, leveraging automation routines and triggers to improve security and convenience.

    Discreet motion detector
I have motion detectors in interior rooms rather than cameras.Ring make it so easy to set them up, just use the QR code and allocate a location to each one.Mine are not mounted on the walls, I have put them where they won’t be seen/looked for but they will look for movement! They are part of my Ring Security System and have been grouped in the security system. You can group the devices for external alarms on as a protective barrier and internal alarms off when you are at home. You can configure your system to suit your needs, Ring makes it easy and straightforward to do.

Easy to fit and use but can give false alarms.
I have fitted 6 of these in my house. They are neat, a doddle to set-up and everything works well with the other RING components and app. They offer very good value for money when compared with traditional alarms from professional installers. The wireless aspect is fantastic and its just great to get away from all that old fashioned alarm cabling. However, even set to the lowest sensitivity I have had 3 instances in the last year where they have alarmed for no apparent reason. I have followed all advice from RING about fitting and positioning to be careful that the problem is not with how and where I have installed them. I am CERTAIN this is not the cause because the 3 alarms have occurred on 3 different sensors in different rooms. If it was always the same sensor that would indicate a sensor or positioning fault but clearly that is not the case here and there seems to be nothing that can be done about this issue. Also my neighbour installed the same system at the same time and has had the same false alarm issue on a few occasions (again sensitivity now turned to the lowest and the false alarms happening with different sensor in different rooms).Having said that, this system is much more reliable and comprehensive and controllable that my old hard-wired house alarm which was even more prone to false alarms.
