A good camera
I have eight older ieGeek cameras all running on the Windows HiP2P software and this one is superior in most respects. It still gets 5 stars from me for its functionality but, to get the things I donât like out of the way, it is mainly white, big and plasticky. Itâs attractive enough but I live in the countryside with no neighbours and I donât want my cameras to be obvious, I have warning notices prominently displayed to deter baddies; the older black (metal) ones are much more discrete and are much more robust. Iâd rather keep trespassers guessing where the cameras are so they canât dodge out of sight or whack them off their mount and this model is, in my opinion, best suited to a town environment where being visible could be an advantage. But in my deeply rural setting itâs a disadvantage and Iâll install them in areas well inside my boundaries so baddies come across them after they have passed a few âinvisibleâ ones and warning signs they couldnât miss. My much smaller black metal cameras are very hard to spot, especially at night, unless you know where they are. This one jumps out yelling âIâm hereâ, especially as itâs white. But this is in my situation and I appreciate most people will likely prefer the deterrent of a security camera being obvious so my rating reflects that.Very easy to physically mount and set up with the HiP2P software if you are familiar with it (use the latest version!) although the terminologies take getting used to and some settings are unintuitive and hidden, most importantly the âqualityâ setting which is on âminimumâ by default â it makes a huge difference. The wi-fi range is excellent, this camera works perfectly in a location I previously struggled with using one of the older ones. The image quality looks better to me although it is seemingly the same resolution.Where this camera really scores for me is the pan/tilt/zoom. Forget the zoom, itâs digital, not optical, so would lose definition if used (it doesnât seem to work anyway on the HiP2P software) but the pan and tilt are excellent. Itâs billed as 360° but in practice, unless it can see round corners, itâs 180° if itâs mounted on a flat wall, still perfectly adequate. I havenât tried the auto-tracking yet but intend to thoroughly check this out in time as automatically covering a wide area with a single camera will be very useful to me.The night vision is very good too, again seemingly much better than the older models. I wonât be using the colour option for the same reasons as wanting my cameras to be unnoticeable. We get some ferocious weather here (in France) so Iâll have to wait and see how this lightweight plastic camera fares. Hopefully it will be just fine, the older but metal models have stood up well. This is a relatively inexpensive camera so Iâve taken that into consideration. It is remarkable value for money and I canât fault its functionality. The main thing is, it works very well and Iâm very pleased with it, so much so I will buy a couple more for areas a fixed camera couldnât cover adequately. I have areas that have power from 3 different houses and itâs impractical to run network cable and impossible to use CPL, so the wi-fi range is a significant plus.Optional information⦠one thing I have disliked about ieGeek cameras is their inability to record in e.g. AVI format that can be shared and viewed with normal software, instead using a proprietary 264 format that nothing except the HiP2P application reads. You CAN convert from this rubbish to a useable format using the mobile app but even their customer service (very good by the way) couldnât find a way round this on a Windows PC. Well, there is a way! You canât from the files stored on an SD card but you can save video as AVI if you save direct to a hard drive in a PC (the SD card still works). The problem is of course, the computer has to be on to do this and gobbles up disk space but if it matters (and it does to me) it is possible. I wish Iâd known this before because with (now) 9 cameras each with a 128Gb SD card at 22⬠or so each, thatâs 200⬠I could have saved, enough to buy 10Tb of dedicated external drives. Also, saved to my computer the recordings are safe and readily available rather than going through the slow and clunky HiP2P application.

Great little camera!
***UPDATE March 2021***I take it all back! As thought, it turns out I had a faulty camera… ieGeek reached out to me and sent me a brand new one – WOW what a difference! Crystal clear picture and strong WiFi (no drop-outs like the previous one) and the colours are true-to-life – much more along the lines of what I was expecting (basically the same performance as my IG62 but at a higher resolution/better definition)Experimenting with the motion detection at present – think some of the issue was caused by the poor image quality of the initial camera as does seem a little more responsive…Thank you ieGeek support for your support and service… 10/10!—-Initial review posted:… Disappointing performance and very poor WiFiWell, I have to say I just do not rate this camera… Initial setup is easy enough and the app is fine but I feel let down by the camera itself…Like others, I seem to be experiencing WiFi issues – constant drop-outs and slow speed even with the camera placed the other side of the wall to my WiFi access point! It was so bad that in the end, I hard-wired it using CAT5 but still find I am experiencing random dropouts (although far less than when it was on WiFi) – the main reason for buying this model was the enhanced aerial! (also have a cheaper IG62 camera which connects by WiFi and is 10x the distance away and through 2 walls – get a rock-solid connection to that one!)Image is also a little disappointing – one side of my picture seems to be very pixalated and lacking detail (the right side in the photo) – contacted support who, although polite, were of little use – after first asking if it had water in it [how could it, it is factory sealed – unlike the cheaper units, you don’t have to take it to bits to install an SD card] they then advised that it is ‘acceptable’ but I should try repositioning my camera to point it to somewhere a bit lighter – erm, ok, all very well but the very slight flaw with that is then it wont cover the area I want it to cover! I know it’s not a 5MP camera but again, image quality from the cheaper model is far superior… [Did also raise the WiFi issue with support who basically said it could be my network – erm, did you not read the bit where I explained that another of your cameras 10x the distance away has no issues at all – and, quite frankly, when placed the other side of a wall to an access point, there should really be no issues]…I also have an issue with the colour rendering – it’s almost like the IR cut isn’t right – the colours just don’t ‘pop’ – purples and greens are a funny shade (they still are purple and green but nothing like the actual colour – again, the cheaper IG62 seems much better in this respect)…Motion detection is pointless – even rain sets it off – yes, I know it’s not the easiest of things to do in the processing power you have – but I’m not talking about rain in general – if the rain drops are big enough and are within a couple of feet of the camera, I just get constant alerts to say ‘Motion Detected’ – ended up switching that off!Night vision does seem good though (allowing for the previous comment re image quality but at night the image wont be as sharp anyway) – the ring of IR LEDS is not particularly noticeable and does give illumination…I find myself in 2 minds – do I return it or keep it? I will probably end up keeping it but will relocate it to cover another (smaller) area and buy a 5MP camera to replace this one (although alas, not an ieGeek one)
