Customers say

Customers find the lens hood functions well, is easy to attach, and keeps glare off the lens nicely. The quality is good, with customers noting the plastic construction isn’t cheap, and one mentioning it works as well as a Canon original. The fit and value for money receive mixed feedback – while some say it fits perfectly, others find it very loose, and while some consider it good value, others say it’s expensive for what it does. The hood tends to fall off during use.

    Excellent – buy one.
Excellent. Took straight out of the box, lined up the red dots for alignment and it was on. Works brilliantly even though not long (due to lens size) and keeps out those extra bits of sunshine that you don’t want.Once on you can still then fit any filters over the top – a bit difficult due to the fact you’ve got to screw them on with fingers in the way of the sides but you can also get your lens cap on. (this isn’t a problem with the product that just how it is – so if you have ‘man’ fingers you might struggle. Can’t compare this to unbranded makes but the Canon was good for the extra ‘small’ amount of difference.

    Cheap and cheerful
Product does what it’s supposed to. It sits just outside the lens’ FOV at shortest focal length and as far as I can tell is identical in shape and dimensions as canon official. Looses a star because fitting is a little snug for my liking. Takes some pressure to push onto the lens and twist doesn’t end with any sort of satisfying click. It actually attaches in a much more satisfying manor in reverse, though I don’t know yet if this is the kind of thing that will loosen in time. For the price, it’s still a bargain. Like I said, doesn’t get in frame at all, sits only just outside FOV, and plastic construction doesn’t feel too cheap, doesn’t look it either. My particular item arrived wrapped in only two plastic bags however, and had an ~4cm crack around the diameter, but it still functions well aside from tight fitting. For price, can’t really complain. Hopefully they will ship future items with a small amount a bubble wrap or something for a little protection.EDIT:Several months on, the fitting has not loosened. I’ve since purchased an official Canon hood for another lens and the fitting is much better, however this item still functions perfectly fine and don’t intend on replacing it any time soon.

    Cheaper alternative to the EW-63C
The lens hood fits quite firmly, so you’ll need to make sure it’s flat against the lens otherwise it’s difficult to turn. It has a soft click when turned into place and stays firmly on. It’s easy to remove but doesn’t seem like it will be falling off at any point. To check compatibility make sure your lens has two tabs on the end. Some slightly older models of Canon 18-55 lenses come with 3 and are incompatible (for example the 18-55mm IS I/II).The plastic is of fairly nice quality, though very, very slightly lighter than the lens’ plastic, but this isn’t really noticeable unless you’re looking for it. It’s not soft like icing and doesn’t feel especially fragile or edible. The hood is basically identical to a EW-63C, so the shading functions are likely the same for 1/7th of the price. From a few simple tests no element of the hood was visible throughout the full range of the lens’ zoom. There’s no additional vignetting or looming black shadows in the corner of the viewfinder or other such scary things. So those who are easily frightened can use this hood with ease. It’s basically just a cheaper version of the official product. If it breaks or explodes or is coated in hallucinogenic substances I’ll update this warning others of the lethality of this small plastic hood. Maybe not if it’s the last. One non product thing to note is the delivery window for this item is kind of expansive (as you can see from the item’s delivery window). Mine arrived much quicker than the maximum but it’s probably not an item to get if you’re in a hurry.

    Good Quality
Good Quality plastic . This lens hood is meant for the IS STM lens (newer kit lens) . When used with the older lens it falls off easily which is likely why people have said it has a poor fit . However, if you have the new STM version , it fits perfectly perfectly with zero chance of it falling off on its own .

This is a useful item but it’s not very well designed in terms of the connection to the lens itself. It certainly doesn’t snap on with a satisfying click, rather you have to keep turning it around the lens until it somehow joins, whilst the actual hold position is very slim. Once on it does the job, altho’ once or twice I’ve obviously not put it on totally straight and have ended up with a tiny black mark at one corner of the image. Probably not something you need to spend the money on over an unbranded alternative.

    Best price but still overpriced
As the OEM product it was no surprise that this fitted perfectly.Very well made quality item. That said it is a ridiculous price for a piece of plastic. For once, however, Amazon offered the Canon product at the lowest UK price.I am disappointed that Canon, unlike Sigma and Tamron, do not supply a lens hood within the box unless it is an L series product. They could instantly take back the non-OEM market

Nutzt man jedoch z.B.

It fit perfect for the new Canon R50V with 14-30mm lens and this is made in Taiwan, i bought a JJC lens hood first and it was really tight turning in or out.
