The spec is everything
I replaced an old 1080p TV with a 4K one. My Shield TV said it had a 4K output and the TV said it was getting a 4K signal – until it started complaining about no signal. Well I only replaced the 2012 TV and not the HDMI cables and a quick internet search showed that since HDMI 2.0 which had 4K support came out in 2013, these old cables must be at fault. Based on reviews I though that Amazon basics should suffice if the spec is right, and I have been proved right. The signal lost problems are gone. I find it hard to believe that paying more for so-called higher quality cables would have been worth it.Interestingly with the new TV I found that the remote wouldn’t control the volume on my surround sound receiver. So I replaced the HDMI cable for that too and now it works! The receiver is newer that the old TV so likely it was HMDI 2.0+, as is the new TV. I’d have thought that CEC volume control should have still worked over the old HDMI cable but it didn’t. So the spec is everything!

If you are connecting all modern devices (4K TV, 4K blu ray, 4K video game consoles) you are going to want these. I was using old HDMI cables and forgot that if you get a 4K TV you are NOT going to be getting max frame-rate and resolution from it with old cables.All that said, don’t get price-gouged. HDMI cables that support 4K/120hz should be $10 not $40, and there’s some big box stores that will take advantage of the customer lack of this knowledge.These cables are cheap in price but hold up fine for normal usage. If you are are constantly unplugging and moving them you will want something heavier grade and if you are dealing with very high end equipment or a non-ideal environment you may want some kind of shielding, but for the everyman these are great and will hold up until the next upgrade.
