Easier and more effective than using string
Digital cable reviews are hard to write because the cable either works or it doesn’t. It’s solid or it’s flimsy. That’s about it as far as ‘interesting and informative’ goes, and it’s all anybody wants to know anyway apart from the price â and that changes pretty much every day anyway. In this case, the cable works and is solid. It costs what it costs today.Of course, cables can be used for so much more than just connecting devices. Skipping ropes for gnomes, bridles for tiny horses, speed bumps for toy cars, the list goes on. Why not use one of these cables as a washing line? Or use it to tie up larger cables? Or chew it as a particularly bitter liquorice alternative? It’s worth thinking about, anyway. If we expand our expectations of what cables can do then eventually cable reviewers will have more to write about, which is good for everybody.By the way, don’t actually try to chew this cable. It’s not good for your teeth and it genuinely tastes disgusting. Not that I’d know, of course.

THICK and STURDY
So for my use case, this isn’t exactly ideal. There are two issues for me:Firstly, the cable is very thick and stiff, so I can’t plug it into the socket behind my bed and use the phone plugged in because the cable just won’t co-operate. It’s plenty long enough, but I can’t hold the phone in a comfortable position because the cable is fighting back. It won’t go anywhere it doesn’t want to.Secondly, the end that plugs to the phone is such a GIANT chunk. If you have a great big goose neck phone holder which has a nicely perfectly placed opening to allow you to plug your phone in…. FORGET about it. It’s absolutely enormous, exactly the same size as the end that covers the 3 times thicker USB A side.Other than that, it seems to work perfectly, just be aware, that compared to the cable that came with your weird ass USB 2/3 combo connector enabled phone (which thankfully usb c now takes care of), it’s not going to co-operate with you due to the heavy and stiff nature of it. It will however allow you to place your phone off of the floor while charging, you just may have to pick your angles and watch for trinkets on the mantle.

Best of it’s breed
I’ve tried several different makers cables for my external drives, and there’s always been some problem or other crop up, causing either slow data transfer, noise, or BSOD’s in some cases. These are by far the best I’ve tried thus far. The thicker cable means no noise, and you can put them where you want them, and most of the time, they’ll stay there. The plug ends are also thicker than the standard, so they tend to sit in the socket better, rather than the flimsy ones that move every time there’s a lorry going past.I would recommend these to anyone with more than one external drive, and may need to move or swap them now and again.

Why Pay More?
You can pay a whole lot more for a brand name tether cable but why go to that expense when this does the job just as well. There’s no real need to go to great expense. All it does is connects your camera to a computer so you can transfer images or tether your camera to Lightroom or similar. It may be cheap but this cable is no flimsy piece of cheap plastic.. It’s tough and durable and does the job it was designed for. For all of us hobbyists on a budget it’s just the job so why pay more? Well done Amazon Basics. Highly recommended.

1.8m cable, rather hefy, very durable.
I wanted a longer usb 3 cable, so I purchased the Amazon basic 1.8m version. I was quite surprised when it arrived as to the hefty weight of the cable itself. You could almost mistake it for a heavy duty hdmi lead.Upon being plugged in, i found it performs really well. transfer speeds went from 25mb per sec to 85mb. (read and write). I was really impressed with the cable quality and its ability to transfer data much quicker than the tiny one supplied with the unit I was using initially.Would recommend this as a good purchase.

Clearly this cable works for some people, but I was using it for an external backup hard drive and had repeated instances of it dropping connection to the drive for a split second. This caused a complete computer crash during a large file transfer. I switched back to the (overly short) cable bundled with the HDD and haven’t seen any drops yet so I’m reasonably sure the cable is at fault, and don’t know of any reasons why a longer cable of the same specifications should be causing drops (a metre surely isn’t long enough for there to be a greater power requirement).So I would be somewhat careful with these cables if you’re using it for something critical. Yours may work perfectly, but maybe leave it in for a few minutes and listen for a ‘device disconnected’ sound.

Works great! Good solid build, charging and data transfer speeds are v impressive. Highly recommend ððSuper bad shipping though…..! And completely pathetic work ethic on part of the delivery people. Was fulfilled by Amazon so.. at least we know who to blame here. But don’t let the shipping stop u from getting this, it’s a good cable and well worth the price.
