Smart display
This is part of a range of devices that Shelly sell to control items around the home, as such to get the most out of it you do have to carry out some work yourself. That said, this is a very easy device to set up: insert the batteries, use a mobile phone to connect to the device, set up the wifi and away you go.The display is very clear and easy to read and the device feels good quality. It comes with a simple stand and can also be wall mounted or stuck onto a wall with the supplied pads. You can connect it to other systems and then use the readings to control other devices. Many people seem to connect it to home assistant but it can also connect to other systems with some work. I connect it to a MQTT broker and then use that to connect to Apple home where it displays the temperature and humidity. The device only connects to the Wifi system for a few seconds to update it’s values and then goes back to sleep, however as the display is an e-paper display this stays on. The device updates it readings every so often (I think it states every two hours if nothings changes), or whenever they change by a certain amount, thus conserving battery life. Consequently it can be a few tenths of a degree out before it updates. It can also be triggered by a change in humidity which it also displays.I like these devices, they seem to be the best from Shelly and I intend to get several more. Note the Shelly web site states these will be upgraded to matter in the future, and when this happens you should be able to connect to a wider range of systems directly.

Awesome with Home Assistant
I’ve had these a couple weeks and they’re pretty awesome.Using them with home assistant and works well. I put them on a separate VLAN with no internet and they’re very happy, none of this internet-required nonsense. They can connect to multiple WiFi networks with customizable signal strength switching, communicate over quite a few protocols (I use MQTT), e-ink display looks good, and you can even use a custom network time server, so even without internet the on-screen clock works as I host one locally. I’m using them with home assistant for automations to control heating in each room based on the temperature. They’re a little expensive but I got them on offer for £21 each, I bought 6 and want more. They also come with a nice detachable stand as well as a 3M sticky pad for wall mounting, and just use normal AA batteries or USB-C power.

Solid device
Paired it very easily to my home assistant platform the Wi-fi is easy to configure but you must follow the instructions very clearly. It’s a very solid device requires four double a batteries that seem to last a fairly long time, it only sends data when there’s a change and that is configured during the setup phase. If you want something that’s small and unobtrusive this is not for you

Enticing but doesn’t live up to its function
It looks pretty and I love the e-ink display but sadly doesn’t perform adequately.Firstly, the measurements are not accurate.Secondly, it cannot function as a home thermostat because the readings are so delayed (on battery power) that you’re freezing cold until the heating kicks in.If you opt to keep it plugged in then it works better, but then you can’t place it wherever you want anymore.I’m a huge fan of Shelly but this is one of their flops. I’d recommend the Shelly Blu H&T if you insist on going the Shelly route. Stick to their relays.

Great little device
I’ve got a garden office, so use this to track the temperature and humidity in there. It appears to be very accurate, using it wired is the best solution for me however you can use it via batteries too.

It works well but batteries literally last less than a month.I feel like Iâm forever changing batteriesItâs says poor WiFi signal but router is within 6m of it.
