I’m very much an amateur photographer, just started out and learning my way through trial and error with a bit of research along the way.I’d never heard of this company before but I’m happy with this lens. It’s compact and lightweight, and I’m happy with the end result / image quality. A more experienced photographer than I will probably be able to get a lot better photos out of it but I’ve been pleased with what I’ve achieved. Compared to some others it’s pretty good value overall.

Life through a lens
Viltrox is a Chinese company that produces lenses for a variety of camera brands, one of which is Sony. Now, some might dismiss such a company but it does have some useful lenses for consideration. One is this 28mm f/4.5 wide angle full-frame E and FE mounts pancake lens.Whilst itâs a fixed aperture and is autofocus only, and wonât be that good in low light, it does have a couple of benefits. One is that itâs lightweight and tiny and has the advantage of being able to sit on the front of your camera and be barely noticed, turning your camera into a point-and-shoot if you will. Think of it as a body cap that allows you to take photos with no effort on your part. To that end, it has a slider that opens and closes a cover for a bit more protection. For general purpose use, it does produce decent results and the in-built Bluetooth and USB will come in handy if there are any firmware upgrades.Yes the quality of the build is at the cheapest end, but then so is the price. And you don’t really expect much from what is essentially a ‘fun’ lens. But bear in mind that it isnât compatible with all full-frame Sonyâs; this lens is only partially compatible with some and not at all with some others.

Feel like thereâs white haze on it in low lighting with the iso bumped up. but my intentions were to pop it on to use in day time or with my mini flash so it works fine for that purposeAF is a bit slow but it gets there in the end

I love this lens on my A7C as a value travel setup. Works great on full frame, no vignetting. A bit slow at f/4.5 obviously, but it makes autofocus more reliable for photography. I am suprised by how much I like the flip close instead of a lens cap; its one less thing to worry about and means I can slip my new travel setup (which is incredibly slim and compact because of this lens) into my pocket and pull it out fast when I need it. It tends to have the optical characterisitcs of a phone camera lens such as streaking when the lens is dirty and the flares are not super pleasent and remind me of my phone photography being mirror images of the highlight shapes and very small and not colorized. There are suprisingly little artifacts or chromatic abberation. Its a decently sharp lens with mostly even detail across the image and workds great at 28mm in FF for travel and street work.
