This obviously isn’t vet-level quality, but it’s still effective at reading microchips. Be aware that you have to get it within a few inches of the chip to read it, so you need to have a sense of where the chip might be (usually in the neck). Chips can travel, so if you’re not sure there’s a chip to read at all, it’s pretty likely you’ll miss it. It’s very easy to use, and a nice compact size. The battery seems to be holding up well so far

Works straight out of the box
Just had a litter of puppies and they all look pretty much the same. This little gadget helped to make sure I sent the right paperwork with the right puppy when they moved on to their forever homes. Very simple to use, just aim at the pet’s scruff and press the button. Comes with a usb charging cable. Sometimes simplicity is exactly what you need.

Ordered this so I can help verify/identify registration of cats, who generally have their chip near the nape of their neck. The scanner has a rechargable battery which you can recharge using the supplied USB cable, and this plugs into a USB c connector on the bottom of the device.This scanner scans and displays every time without difficulty and doesn’t take a lot of faffing around to do it – nice if you are trying to comfort an animal as you use it. The id of the detected chip is displayed clearly and brightly on the screen and can then be used with registration db look-up on your tablet/PC. When it has acquired the chip there is a positive beep for feedback, but it isn’t so loud that it will startle the animal. There is also a facility to transfer your scans to your PC if you have to do many of themBuild quality is on point for this kind of device, it isn’t nasty and flimsy and is actually quite nice.Overall, recommended.

This is a very simple pet microchip scanner, lightweight and easy to use. It doesn’t have a gazillion features, but it does exactly what I was expecting it to do, a.k.a scanning pets’ microchips and returning the chips’ numbers — provided the chip is of a supported type, that is (the list of supported protocols is in the product’s description, so easy to check).There’s no fuss with this scanner, it worked immediately straight out of the box, and it’s sensitive enough that you don’t need to hold it directly against your pets’ skin (which, with cats particularly, is not so easy to do).
