Why do the lights in a house turn on when you flip a switch? How does a remote-controlled car move? And what makes lights on TVs and microwaves blink? The technology around you may seem like magic, but most of it wouldn t run without electricity. Electronics for Kids demystifies electricity with a collection of awesome hands-on projects. In Part 1, you ll learn how current, voltage, and circuits work by making a battery out of a lemon, turning a metal bolt into an electromagnet, and transforming a paper cup and some magnets into a spinning motor. In Part 2, you ll make even more cool stuff as you: Solder a blinking LED circuit with resistors, capacitors, and relays Turn a circuit into a touch sensor using your finger as a resistor Build an alarm clock triggered by the sunrise Create a musical instrument that makes sci-fi soundsThen, in Part 3, you ll learn about digital electronics things like logic gates and memory circuits as you make a secret code checker and an electronic coin flipper. Finally, you ll use everything you ve learned to make the LED Reaction Game test your reaction time as you try to catch a blinking light! With its clear explanations and assortment of hands-on projects, Electronics for Kids will have you building your own circuits in no time.

Awesome book!
I bought this book for my 12-year-old nephew a couple of months ago, and he loves it! He’s already built many of the projects all on his own. I’ve also been looking through it, and the author explains the concepts in a really straight-forward way that even I can understand (and this topic is totally new to me). I recommend this book for both adults and kids.

Very good
Excellent book, very informative and a good read for 11 years plus. Got my Daughter through a tough science test at school.

Good but errors
I’m pretty sure the explanations for LED anodes were back to front. Other than that, if you build the projects as you follow along – great book!

I’m 62 and I have liked tatting with electronics for years! I’m the sort that just adds stuff sometimes it even works! I’m not interested in long explanations so I downloaded a sample from the book, its great learn by doing! I wish I had a book like this years ago!

50/50 Overall
I found a majority of this book was perfect and kind of helped with adult guidance to an 11 year old who wanted to learn electronics for a hobby interest. The book does have some nice explanations (sometimes a little more technical than some other books out there) however for technicality for a young learner this made it a little more difficult to grasp the knowledge. As an assisting adult I must say there is one experiment which did not work with the correct components.I wouldn’t say its the worst book out there. I have seen a lot of terrible ones in the past.A good credit within the book is the help with providing part numbers for components to purchase.

My son asked for a circuit kit. We purchased one before and though nice, it was pricey for the things it provided. I decided to make my own kit using this book. I cannot say enough good things about this. I have not given it to my 12-year-old yet but he will love it. I read almost the whole book to purchase supplies for the experiments as part of his gift. The book makes the shopping list easy. Although other suppliers are listed as well, I went ahead and ordered everything through Jameco. I learned so much just by reading the chapters to purchase the supplies. Very well done. The book provides a stair-step approach to learning various aspects of electricity which I found perfect for a beginner. It was not overwhelming but I think it will be challenging enough to hold I interest. I love that the author said he wrote this book because he would have liked to have something like it as a child. It not only provides instructions but explains the rationale which I believe will be applicable to future endeavors.
