You can use the remote commander to operate a camera or a camcorder that has a Sony Multi Terminal or REMOTE Terminal. Works Perfectly with the SONY AX53
This remote has just arrived so I have just been playing with it for a few minutes. It seems well made, includes two usb type leads and a firm cradle that would attach to a tripod or a 1/4″ screw mount.The lead for my Sony AX53 fits perfectly the second lead provided is for some other make or model camera. The lead it 1 metre in length.Everything works on the AX53. It will power the camera on and off. When in picture mode you can half press the button to focus then fully press to take the picture. If you put your camera in spot focus mode first on your camera screen you can press the remote button and it will focus on that spot picked by your camera.In video mode you can again use the spot focus feature and half press the ‘picture’ button to focus before you press record but you dont seem to be able to refocus while recording, I dont think you can anyway. The camera will focus in the normal way when in Auto mode. The zoom buttons are very good, just press lightly to zoom slowly and hard to zoom faster. the last feature is the grid system which works in video and picture mode. So far I am delighted with the remote, only time will tell.A am into macro photography at the moment, mainly mushrooms which involves getting down low on the ground and find it difficult to see the screen properly or generally see what I am doing. I have also purchased the Feelworld F5 pro field monitor which means I can see the picture from a more comfortable distance. The trouble with the field monitor though is that although it has a touch screen you cannot operate your camera from it so this JJC remote should be the answer. When I have tried the remote and field monitor together I will either add to this or do a review on the field monitor. Thankyou

Superb and simple to use.
I purchased this as another gadget, as I like gadgets.I have Sony RX100 Mk2 and Sony RX10 MK4 cameras and this remote release works brilliantly with both of them alike. It is very intuitive and unlike some things you can buy does not require a headache-inducing read of an instruction manual when all attempts to make it work by instinct alone have failed. It is simply plug and play, no batteries required as it uses power from whichever camera it is connected to and you can even use it to switch the respective camera on and off as well as zoom in and out or switch the grids on and off.

JJC SR-F2 Remote Commander – Works with a Sony FDR-AX53 Camcorder.
All functions on this remote commander work with my FDR-AX53 camcorder when plugged into the Multiport socket using the supplied cable. No battery is required as the power for the commander is taken from the camcorder battery. The LED glows green when power is present, and red when recording. It is made of plastic and is very light but feels adequate.The commander has 2 levels of zoom – press the zoom rocker switch lightly to zoom slowly, press harder to zoom faster. The rocker switch makes an audible click when pressing from slow zoom to fast zoom which could be picked up by the mic in very quiet environments.I intended to attach the remote commander to my tripod handle to enable panning, tilting and zooming using only one hand. The clip supplied did not open wide enough to attach to the part of tripod handle where operation of the unit would have been most convenient, being the thick part at the top of the handle. Had the clip been able to be attached to the tripod handle, I don’t think it would have stayed in position and would have moved around the handle quite easily. A clamp with a 1/4″ screw may have to be bought separately if you intend to use the remote commander in this configuration. On the underside of the commander there is a 1/4″ female thread to enable this (I made other arrangements with an old clamp and plenty of strong glue).The main positive for me about the commander is that it WORKS with my Sony AX53 camcorder and I am very pleased with it and recommend it despite the issue of attaching it to the tripod handle.Update:I wrote this review about 3 and a half years ago and unfortunately the remote commander has failed. The zoom started to stick and would not stop zooming after releasing the zoom rocker. I used the remote almost every Saturday afternoon for 2 hours – by my estimates about 250 hours of use in total during this time. On taking the remote apart, I found that the pins under the rocker had worn through the contact pads on the PCB. However, I am delighted with the product and ordered another one which arrived today. Highly recommended.

Works with Sony CX240E
I got this as a remote for my Sony CX240E which is a ceiling mounted look-down camera in my lab. cable is fairly short (about 1m I think) so had to use a usb extension cable but that is not really a problem. Works fine, zooms work and hard press = faster szoom, coft press = slow zoom so that was an unexpected bonus. Shutter trigges still capture, and red button starts and stops video recording.

Lightweight but handy
I needed a remote that would operate the movie button on my Sony DSC HX400V Bridge camera. When connected to a gimbal for video shooting (which itself is only partially compatible with the camera, and not in video mode), touching the camera controls directly causes the gimbal motor often to stop. I haven’t yet tried it out all together but the remote can 1) switch on/off the camera, 2) operate the zoom, 3) start and stop recording and 4) in still modes operate the shutter. Shutter release has a half-way position for focusing The only apparent problem is that the clip that comes with the remote is not large enough to clip to the gimbal handle so I must try it fixed to the non-moving arm or let it hang loose. In theory the remote opens up new shooting techniques in conjunction with the gimbal, or with the camera mounted on a tripod, remote shutter release for long exposures. The remote operates through cable connection to the camera (two types of cable are supplied, for different models) and is powered by the camera. I dare say this uses the camera battery power more quickly. For me this is quite an exciting departure.
