Decent Waterproof Camera for Casual Use
I wanted a budget-friendly option for casual photography in the pool or sea.. this has met that requirement and is great for my use, and with kids/nephews/beginners too. The IP68 waterproof body feels rugged, on paper handling up to 5 meters of depth without needing a separate waterproof case. Waterproof cases are my pet-peeve so its great to not have to rely on them anymore.The photo and video quality are decent enough to do the job. The 48MP photo resolution and 1080P video resolution sound impressive on paper, but the output in my experience is closer to an older aesthetic—colours are slightly muted, and images lack the crispness you’d expect from more advanced cameras. However, I personally prefer this aesthetic for the kind of shooting this camera is intended for – for kids, for water based activities, and a backup holiday camera, this level of quality definitely adds charm that I won’t get from my Canon R6ii mirrorless. With products like this it’s often very important to temper expectations, and not to solely look at specifications in isolation.The auto-focus and 16x digital zoom work well enough in well-lit conditions but does struggle in low-light or highly dynamic environments (under water). Also remember digital zoom is sort of a gimmick and you’d get similar performance by simply cropping in. The built-in flash helped in some scenarios. The 630mAh battery was adequate for my usage.The lack of a viewfinder and the lag when pressing the shutter button was slightly frustrating – I’m used to more responsive devices. The wrist strap isn’t adjustable, which might be an issue for underwater use, though it’s manageable for casual shallows use.I’d summarise by saying this camera is ideal as a gift for kids or as a basic option for casual holiday photography. It delivers good value for the price, with reliable waterproof functionality and simplicity being a key strength.
