Ugh, this lens is amazing, and frustrating simultaneously.
I am using an iPhone 11 Max (I refuse to upgrade to something less good!)
Itâs extremely lo-fi; essentially you clip the lens to the top or side of your phone so the lens lines up with your phone primary camera lens.
Iâve added photos to show what a collection of leaves look like with and without the macro lens, and with and without the case.
If youâre getting a vignette, you either need to realign the lens or remove the phone case because, as you can see, it does cause a vignette (the macro lens is set a few mm further away than it should be so that extra miniscule gap causes the vignette.)
Itâs genuinely a faff to position the lens just right, but when you get it, it does give you beautifully clear macro shots – though bear in mind it washes the colours out. Where most macro lenses allow less light in, this one makes your images less vibrant so theyâll definitely need editing.
But, I took a screencap video of what happens when I go from 1x to 2x zoom in Photo mode. Why does it do this?! And itâs not because 2x uses a different lens at the back of the phone because half the time it works fine.
You can see in the video: switching from 1x to 2 to zoom in further makes the screen go black. Sometimes it will clear itself up suddenly, too, without my doing anything. So so frustrating.
I donât really understand why itâs doing this.
Also, another downside is the clip component. You use a screw to tighten the clip in place, but it very very near the top of the phone – it could do with a slightly better clip mechanism. Its being adjustable does mean it fits different phones and you can use it with or without the phone case but it really doesnât work terribly well.
It comes with a wee drawstring bag and lens cleaning cloth, and I think over all the price point is okay if you get it on sale.
But I am very very frustrated by the zoom function making the screen go black because I will need to use that setting often – the zoom is necessary sometimes. I was recording a video earlier and I went to 2x zoom, the screen went black so I wasted a bunch of time. I really donât know how to get around it, short of simply not using zoom. But itâs there for a reason!
Iâm frustrated.

High quality and easy to use, but takes practice!
This is a very good quality clip-on lens that can lead to some awesome results.
Some photos are attached to this review. My phone is a Google Pixel 3a; this is getting old now, but it still takes very good photos that are only now being bettered by more recent models. Some of the photos used digital zoom straight from the camera, and others made use of the awesome refocusing capability on the phone to correct and expand the depth of field. All the photos have been through Lightroom for post-processing.
As you can see, this lens is able to capture a fantastic level of detail. Although it can’t be expected to match proper macro lenses on bigger cameras, it’s still surprising how sharp the images are. It’s only around the edges where you can see the sharpness losing out and a small amount of haloing creeping in. For a clip on lens, it’s superb, and head and shoulders above all the other multi-lens kits you can get (and much bigger too), including from the same manufacturer.
I also like that the focal length is higher than usual – this lets me get the camera in position without having to get so close that I’m blocking all the light. The downside to that is the depth-of-field in *incredibly* shallow. Getting the right shot on a phone not known for snappy photo-taking speed, while the breeze is swaying your subject around is hard enough, without only having a few millimetres (at best) of leeway in the focus. Fortunately I could fix a lot of the focus issues after-the-fact, thanks to modern-day software being scarily capable. Not all phones have that feature though, so in that case you’re just gonna need to practice, and have a bit of luck.
I’m very happy with this lens, and I’ll be looking at some of their other HD lenses with interest.

Optical quality and magnification is excellent – if you can get the focus.
Firstly, this lens does give really good results. I am using it on a Pixel 4a 5G
There are some things you should be aware of though.
* Where the male thread of the lens screws onto the female thread of the clamp, the diameters were different and the lens would not screw on tight the final thread would slip and the lens would stay loose and floppy. This is a VERY bad thing for optics. You will never get reliable focus and the image will be distorted because the focal point will shift around. I have solved this by inserting a small piece of thick paper between the male and female thread before screwing on. This makes the connection stable.
The next hurdle is to be able to move either the subject matter or phone very small amounts in order to get and maintain the best focus. I’m fortunate enough to have a 3D printer. I found phone-holder design online and adapted it a little for my phone size and printed it out. This has made an ENORMOUS difference to the quality of the photos. They are pin-sharp because everything is steady as a rock.
The attached photo is of a 9mm square pendant. I know it’ll be scaled down in size and resolution for this review, but it should give you a good idea of what is possible with this lens.
I have agreat DSLR, a really good macro lens, a tripod and a close-up light setup that I can take amazing close-up photos with, but using this lens and my phone is sooo much quicker and gives perfectly acceptable result for most uses.

En mi trabajo visito viviendas y necesito fotos panorámicas en muchos casos. Con mi iPhone 8 no conseguÃa ese propósito. Este conjunto de lentes me va a ayudar mucho en planos lejanos y en los de detalle. Vienen en una funda de neopreno con un mosquetón para llevarla colgada. Dentro, las cinco lentes vienen cada una en su funda individual de goma, perfectamente protegidas. Echo de menos que cada funda tenga algún distintivo en color para poder identificar la lente de un vistazo, en vez de mirar las pequeñas letras que traen grabadas. El conjunto pesa, parecen de muy buena calidad. Al sacarlas, compruebas que la carcasa es metálica. La imagen es perfecta y la pinza -también de metal- ajusta muy bien sin tener que retirar el bumper protector que protege el teléfono. Encantado con la compra. Comprada un domingo, llegó al dÃa siguiente.

Hace tiempo que se popularizaron las lentes para telefonos moviles y a calidad de ellas eran pésimas. No tenia esperanza en que hubiesen lentes de buena calidad y con resultados profesionales.
Gracias a un trabajo, tuve la necesidad de tener una lente macro e investigué si habÃa algo en Amazon… y me topé con esta lente macro de Apexel. Viendo las buenas valoraciones y diversos videos en Youtube, me animé a probarlo: tenia buen precio, buenos materiales y las imagenes que sacaban los clientes eran sorprendentes.
Y asà fue. Esta lente es sinceramente increible. Se acopla a la perfeccion a mi iPhone XS, junto con un sistema de seguridad a base de un tornillo, tiene buen peso y el volumen de la lente es bastante grande (eso me da seguridad en que el producto está especialmente hecho para que sea una lente macro real). Adjunto fotos de ejemplo que tuve que realizar para un proyecto de un restaurante japonés.

– El viñeteado no es excesivo pero es existente. No supone un gran problema porque se puede solucionar en edición. Pero si he de valorarlo, el ligero viñeteado está. Tambien, como muchas de las fotos que saco son luego para RRSS en formato 1:1, al recortarlo tambien se elimina esa viñeta.
– La tapita pequeña de protección no cabe una vez tienes la lente enroscada en el soporte móvil. Te obliga a desenroscar la lente para poder proteger esa parte de la lente. Aunque mi solución es sujetar la tapita con la pinza del soporte y que lo tape.
Super contento con la compra. Miraré otras lentes que tienen disponibles como gran angulares o teleobjetivos.

This lent is woking!! After few faild purchased I bought this lent and it works!!
You need to use it without a phone case, but it clip onto the phone and it’s sturdy and doesn’t move.
It comes with a lens cover and a pouch to keep everything inside.
Is not super light but it feels and look made of good materials.
