Fast and easy
Three things are important when setting up a Smart Home: the controller, the devices themselves and the Bosch Smart Home app.
What is a Bosch Smart Home controller?
The controller is the heart of the Bosch Smart Home system. It links all your smart components with the app and coordinates all the devices in your system.
Can I use the Bosch Smart Home system without the controller?
With the exception of the cameras, Bosch Smart Home components cannot be used without the controller.
Where is my data stored?
Your personal data is stored on your Smart Home controller in your home. If you use remote access to your Smart Home, the data is transferred to your smartphone or tablet in encrypted form.
Central control unit: Controller connects Bosch Smart Home devices via the Zigbee wireless protocol and is ready for the international smart home standard matter
Smart temperature control: Heating thermostat ensures a comfortable temperature which can be set individually in specific rooms, with values shown in the app too
Save energy: Smart thermostat turns on heating only when necessary and can be configured on the basis of time programs, heating plans, scenarios and clever services to avoid unnecessary heating
Flexible control options: With voice commands via Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant or Siri, on the device itself or via app
You need a controller to integrate the device into the Bosch Smart Home system. This is included in the starter kit heating. Radiator thermostat II is not compatible with Bosch EasyControl
Box contents Amazon Edition: 1x Bosch Smart Home controller II, 1x radiator thermostat II

Keeping the energy bills down and comfort levels up
I find these invaluable in my use case, where Iâm in a house with several small rooms that I use at different points of the day. Probably not as useful if you are using most of your rooms for most of the dayHad a new Worcester Bosch combi installed with a CT200 thermostat/screen, and this system has slotted in just fine with that. The app is simple to use, and gives you really granular controls over how you hear specific rooms at specific times of the day.The TRVs do make noise when in operation, but we got used to that fairly quickly. If you are a light sleeper, this might be a problem for you in a bedroom, although the fact you donât need to keep your bedroom massively hot when you are asleep means it turns off around the time I goto bed, and seldom goes on again until I have programmed it to in the morning, around the time I wake up.I settled on this because:- Tado at the point of point of purchase, didnât support âmodulationâ on my boiler properly, just on/off controls which would have impacted efficiency slightly- Price wasnât ridiculous when on offer- It has APIs which give you the ability to link in with your smart home, such as Home Assistant

Better than the previous version but still a bit expensive for what it is.
Better than the previous version as I didn’t have to use any of the custom fitting pieces, it just went on the radiator as is and worked first time. It does the job it says it does too.

Rubbish
I am trying to be as eco-friendly as possible and I decided that being able to limit or turn off heat to certain rooms from my phone would let me save energy and money. These look great at first and you would expect high quality from Bosch but sorry they are just terrible, first for the high cost they are made of the cheapest horrible feeling plastic in the world and they are just creaky and should be more like £10-£20 each for this sort of quality. The fittings aren’t too bad but you definitely don’t get everything you need for every situation and again for the cost you should get everything that you need and not have to purchase anything extra.Luckily I managed to fit my five thermostats but two did require a little known 1p coin trick, basically on some radiators the valve is to low and the unit canât travel far enough to close and open the valve so the unit won’t calibrate or work, if you put a 1p coin in between it will then be able to reach.By the way the controller takes forever to get setup, it could be downloading firmware but honestly it’s like 20-30 minutes from plugin for the thing to be ready to go and the units themselves say updating firmware for like two days, everything is just very, very slow.So after finally getting the units to calibrate I started to play with the different features and set the temperatures that I wanted in each room but when I set temperatures on two of the thermostats from my phone they didnât do anything and they just went offline.I waited a while and one came back on but then disappeared again, so I waited a good while longer but nothing else happened so I removed the batteries and restarted the units, they then showed online and everything seemed fine but then I would set the temperature and they would once again go offline. It canât be signal as itâs not a huge house and the other thermostats were further away with walls in between and they didnât have any issues at all, moved the controller anyway but they still had constant connectivity issues. There’s a booster that you can buy but once again itâs spending even more money on something that should just work at this price point!Another problem is that they donât detect the temperature very well, they can be 2°C-5°C out,I get that you can adjust the temperature but again at these prices you shouldnât have to be correcting the temperature. The next issue is also to do with temperature, it always goes higher than what you set it to, I can set the radiator in a completely different room that isnât affected by another room’s temperature and it will end up a good chunk higher, for example I set the radiator to heat up to 18°C but it would keep going to 22°C.If I went to the settings for the radiator it would show the valve position still open at a certain percentage for example 30%, surely if the room was warm enough the valve should be closed??I was really hoping these were going to be fantastic for the cost but they are just rubbish, even if you manage to get past all of these issues and the messing about, I have now read all the bad reviews about constantly needing the batteries replaced, units suddenly dying, units falling apart after a few years etc it just seems like a product that is going to be a constant headache. These are definitely all going back to Amazon for a refund, I was going to purchase more thermostats and some door sensors which in total would have been about £800 but no way.

Okay but out of date alreadyâ¦
Iâve been using the Bosch smart thermostats for a short while. In this short time, they have migrated from v1 to now v3 of their TRV models; so feel I have relevant experience to share;V1 was ugly, loud but reliable and functionalV2 was more aesthetically pleasing, quieter but unreliable (more regular drop outs, less intuitive app)I cannot recommend value for money as this v2 product is already technologically out of date (v3 is compatible with matter).

The room temperature is often hotter than the thermostat setting and display. Can someone help me please? This could have been an expensive mistake to buy them

I like the user experience and progress of the product line in terms of updates and improvements. I’m using it since over 5 years in the previous version and it’s very reliable still. There was no issue in integrating the older and newer versions in both smart home connection box, older and newer versions. Look out for bundle offers to offset a bit the painful price points.
