Works well; vastly improves the programmability of my old Daikin HVAC units
I found it easy to set up (remember to turn on Bluetooth scanning on your phone when logging these into the WiFi network for the first time). I use this to control an old Daikin HVAC unit, the settings for which are preprogrammed into the Broadlink library (so very easy to set up) and you can control function (heating; A/C; fan only), temperature, fan speed, etc. What is great is that my old Daikin units have only a simple 24 hour timer, so you can’t programme them to turn on and off on a full week / 365 day basis. The timer function on the Broadlink App means these units are now fully programmable with extreme flexibility. A great investment !

    Fantastic device
My elderly mother sometimes has problems changing channels and we found she was often going to bed during the day and sleeping because she was bored. This device has changed all that. My sibling and I can now change her channel from our houses without try to coach her through it over the phone. It works fantastically and has relieved yet another stress.Set up is not the easiest. I would suggest watching broadlinks tutorial video and setting up your account before plugging in the rm4. After that in the box there is a simple (!) start up guide. My problem was that I didn’t give it enough time to feed through so I kept being given error messages. Took about 10 mins in total to set up (plus two weeks worrying about it! Lol.) The TV is a sony and it automatically connected and put a copy of the remote control on the phone. It really is super easy. For £22 it’s an amazing bargain.

Change the channel, not your mind!
Nice piece of kit that does the job. I bought this to help an elderly relative who forgets channel numbers on her TV.

Does what it says on the tin
I bought this because I had a complex universal remote that switched HDMI sources remotely over IR and presented the ‘home’ if you like of the device I had switched to while maintaining audio control and on swapping out an HDMI 4×4 matrix I couldn’t update the remote I had. This little box does all of that but not in any kind of joined up way. I can control all of my devices (after a not insignificant amount of manual remote learning, likely just a UK thing) and it has a powerful IR transmitter but the software is kinda lacking the smooth transition from one to another like most other universal remotes. So, yes, the software behind this device allows you to control whatever you have a remote for but it does not do it in a joined up way when you switch around between multiple sources. Additionally I’m not comfortable using a phone as a remote due to the ergonomics of an ‘actual remote’ so I’ve pretty much binned this as any kind of option when all you want to do is turn the TV on and configure it’s HDMI source home cinema style. It did inspire me to try harder to fiddle with the software and configuration with my original remote, the Harmony Ultimate and I eventually got it online and working with my new HDMI matrix so that was worth the effort but I’m afraid this piece of kit is in a drawer until I think of something useful I can use it for.

Updated from 1 star to 5 stars
Initially I couldn’t get this to connect to my WiFi. I use an Asus GT-AX11000 which has a lot of settings some of which need to be tweaked a little to get any Broadlink device to connect. For anyone stuck you basically need to disable protected frames for the 2.4GHz channel. If you have problems getting this setting to disable make sure to read the yellow text next to the setting which will tell you what else you need to change to make the setting stick. Anyway as for the unit itself, it’s great. Easy to configure remotes from the huge inbuilt lists or to configure your own custom settings. Works great with Alexa too, nice to have voice control, everything from turn on/off to change channel. Once it’s on the WiFi it’s plain sailing. As soon as the above mentioned setting was changed it connected to the app straight away.

Nightmare configuring, and appears to have weak IR and/or doesn’t work with SkyHD
Spent many hours trying to get this onto my Wi-Fi. The eventual fix MIGHT have been because I had country blocking on my FirewallOnce setup the software is hateful. I couldn’t work out how to remove sub controllers (ie The product you want to control, like a TV, or amp) if you had messed it up, so you could start again. I had to remove the whole hub and start the whole setup process againIt controlled my TV okay, and my amp, but I couldn’t get it to work with my SkyHD box at all. There are 3 preprogrammed codes, and you can learn, but none of these worked for me. Caveat is that my Sky box is in another room and linked using an infra-red extender. But this works perfectly with my Sky remote and my Harmony remote

Improvised remote TV control for elderly family member
This was used as a remote TV control (from 100 miles away). Set up was straight forward and once the actual remote had been copied, it worked well. There was a problem for the use case that I had. There is no feedback to say that the instruction sent has been received. So I could be selecting a channel, but I don’t know that it has been done successfully. However, given what was available on the market for my use case, this was the best that I could do. Overall, it worked well and helped us out in difficult situations.

I have had zero issues learning buttons from the original remotes. The response time is amazing. The Alexa integration is flawless. Been on 24/7, with a few power outages, and haven’t had any issues. A great way to give older equipment voice control. Scenes work very well for the home cinema.

Klare 5 Sterne!
