hghg

Ethernet Connection for Home and SOHO

Features easy access auto sensing 10/100 front Ethernet ports with two LED indicators per port to quickly distinguish link status and speed. The DES-105 switch also supports Auto MDI/MDIX Crossover allowing each port to be plugged directly to a server, hub, router, or switch using regular straight-through twisted-pair Ethernet cables.

Think Green

The DES-105 is a plug-and-play networking switch that offers D-Link’s Green Technology to save energy and reduce heat, which in turn extends product life without sacrificing performance or functionality. The switch supports IEEE 802.3az Energy-Efficient Ethernet (EEE) which detects when a connected computer is shut down or when there is no Ethernet traffic, in which the switch will proceed to power down the idle port, saving a substantial amount of power.

    Superb switch – brilliant.
These small, low power consumption 2.5G switches are just brilliant., Plugged in my four 2.5G devices (Synology NAS, Mac Studio M2 Ultra and two more of these 2.5G switches elsewhere in the house). Will plug the 2.5G port from wireless WiFi7 AP’s in as well when I’ve bought the wireless AP. Sustained 2.5Gbps performance. Fit and forget.High build quality, made from metal and they run cool and silently with no fans. The three I bought on offer have been up and running now a solid three months as a 2.5G backbone to my home network without an itch. A lot of none brand switches out there for much less money but I’d rather buy something quality that will just work. Unreliable networking gear can be extremely intermittent and hard to trace faults with. You can use these with standard based Cat5E cables, so no special 10G cables are needed. Brilliant.EDIT: 15Feb25. Still going strong and not one issue with them. They have never gone back to the £99.99 I paid for mine despite me having a camelcamelcamel price watch on them. They will do eventually. I hope so because I need another two. Incredible that in 2025 I now have almost 120 IP devices on my network in my home in a house of five! CCTV cameras, TV, dishwasher, washing machine, home alarm, Hive, Smart Lighting, TVs, Sky, additional sky boxes, Alexa, Homepods and everyones phones and iPads and computers!!!! It soon adds up the sheer number of devices we have these days. A switch failure and the lot is off and is extremely disruptive with us all working remote!!!

Almost, ALMOST too good to be true
As you can probably guess from my tone throughout this review, I found it pretty tough to fault the D-Link DMS-106XT network switch given its price tag and wide variety of network connectivity. There are a few design choices that are going to split opinion (metal throughout, LEDs, very unconventional shape, etc) but these are quite minor points in the grand scheme of things. The Price tag of this switch for a 10GbE and 2.5GbE switch, even unmanaged, is going to make it damn near irresistible to many buyers and now that it has had some time in the market to increase exposure, availability and reviews, the price tag has become increasingly flexible (arriving as low as £130/$140 in some retailers). D-link could stand to be a little clearer about the turbo mode and it’s advantages with the DMS-106XT and the extent to which those LEDs can actually be customized is pretty weak, but you are clearly getting a sturdy, solid and high-performance piece of kit here. Additionally, with the increase of affordability of 10GbE, as well as 2.5GbE becoming the defacto port to be used with WiFi 6 client hardware, this switch has a much wider audience than it might have had just 2 years ago. A great piece of kit and one I heartily recommend.

Reliable and good quality 2.5gb Ethernet switch
I’ve had this switch for about 4 weeks now and so far it has worked flawlessly. It’s a good quality 2.5GB Ethernet switch from a well known brand. The build quality seems great – all metal chassis. It does run a little hot – it’s warm to the touch but not alarmingly so. From my research this is quite common for multigig switches, but can be a little concerning when you’re used to previous generation gigabit switches which never seemed to get warm. It’s reassuring to know that the D-Link model comes with a 5 year warranty which you can register on their website after purchase. It works with 2.5GB, 1GB, 100MB and 10MB devices. I’m using it with my Mac Studio, an HP ZBook and Dell Latitude laptop, all of which are getting the full 2.5GB speeds via built-in Ethernet ports (or an adapter for the Dell). It works fine with older devices too, like my Brother Laser printer which is only 100MB. On macOS devices I did have a few issues in that the Mac kept dropping the network connection every few minutes and this appears to be a bug in macOS (latest version of Sonoma 14.5). The fix was to manually configure the macOS Ethernet settings (in System Settings > Ethernet > Details > Hardware) and change configure from “automatically” to “manually” and set to 2.5GB Full Duplex (without enabling energy-efficient-ethernet). You can also disable AVB/EAV but that doesn’t seem to be necessary. This seems to be a bug with the built-in Ethernet port on some Macs and macOS and EEE (Energy Efficient Ethernet) which the D-Link switch supports. I didn’t see the same issue when using a USB-C based Ethernet adapter with another Mac running the same version of macOS — probably because the USB-C adapter doesn’t support EEE (I tested with the Satechi USB-C 2.5GB Ethernet Adapter). My only criticism of the switch is that I wish the power adapter port was on the same side as the Ethernet ports, so that all cables could be neatly kept out of the way. It would also be great if D-Link offered a lifetime warranty on the switch here in the U.K., like they do in other countries such as the U.S.A. Other than that, I’m very happy with the switch and would definitely recommend.

Perfect for a 3 pc gaming room
Small, compact, quiet. Perfect switch for 2 serious gamers and plenty of ports for a family of 4. Hooked router to switch through house via 30m cat 8 cable. No issues at all, no drop in speed. Switch is excellent value for money.

Good while 2.5Gbps networking is expensive
So we’ve got a 2.5Gbps modem, 2.5Gbps router and a 2.5Gbps gaming PC hooked up to the living room TV with one cable between the router and living room TV. With this, it allows the 2.5Gbps pass through to the PC and provides 1Gbps connectivity to the other devices which only support 100Mbps or 1Gbps.Obviously if you use all the devices at once, you’ll share the available bandwidth from the 2.5Gbps, but it’s certainly better than feeding loads of cables or sharing one cable between multiple devices by moving the cable around. The compromise is worth it here.

Un plug and play estupendo.Por ponerle una pega, los led estarían mejor en las bocas de las tomas de red, porque donde están se tapan con los cables. Deberías tener un montaje en rack para verlos bien, están juntos y son chicos, se lee mal cuál corresponde a cada entrada

Funziona perfettamente, silenzioso, spedizione velocissima. Sono rimasto soddisfatto. Però dovevate specificare che la spina del trasformatore all’interno della scatola non è italiana.
