Gobe 72mm UV Lens Filter (2Peak)

Excellent 2 Peak (yes it makes a difference) UV Filter…worth the extra pennies
This is the second UV filter I have invested in for this particular lens (Tamron 24-70) and it’s worth every penny. I originally bought the Amazon Basics 82mm filter as I had one of a previous lens and it seemed excellent quality, however the one that arrived seemed much less durable and made more cheaply. When I took outdoor images I got lots of sun spots in my images (never had an issue on previous lens with amazon basics) so invested in this Gobe 82mm UV 2 Peak instead and this is excellent.Made really well, has a nice quality weight feel to it. Doesn’t affect sharpness of images or colour quality. Does exactly what you expect it to. It’s worth spending the extra on a good UV filter to go on your expensive glass as the cheap versions are just not good enough.

Ineeded to replace a 6 year old filter that had bloomed. I am very pleased I did as the result was very pleasing.

Good price for a decent product
The headline says it all. One thing: the item came in a box, with a promise on it for Gobe to be a ‘good company’ (whatever that means, containing two envelopes, one twice the size of the smaller. The former contained Gobe Cleaning Cloth with the instruction to make sure I give the filter some love by cleaning it’s tummy. It’ll love it! Who is it aimed at? Dear me. The smaller packet contained a folded card, headed Register your trees. However, I was not offered trees of my own, but there was the promise to plant five trees in Nepal, Haiti, Indonesia and Mozambique. Whether that’s one each in three of them and two in the lucky country, or all five in one. There was also a circular tin with a screw lid. Nice bit of kit. It was 75mm in diameter, this for a 46mm filter. Unwrapping was something of an adventure.

I’ve always used Hoya filters for about 30 years now. That is until I discovered these little gems. I’ve a couple of these now. This UV filter and I’ve had a variable ND from them. They’re great and I have no hesitation in buying Gobe over Hoya now. Better value for money, come in a lovely little metal tin with a screw on lid so you can store it safely away if not using it. Really good products from a brand that actively takes actions to help the environment by planting trees when you purchase their products. You get a code to register and then they will plant your trees for you. Highly recommended guys.

Als alteingeschworener Hoya- , B&W und Nikon-Filterfan ware ich nie auch nur entferntesten auf diese Produkte gekommen. Zufall war’s, als die Lieferung einer ganzen Gruppe Hoya Filter nicht lieferbar war und ich mich umsehen musste.Als ich dann diese Idee der ”Baumpflanzung” sah habe ich mir die GOBE Filter mal naeher angeschaut und sagte mir – zueruckgeben kannste sie immer….Fur mehrere Objektive UV Filter, C-Pola filter und auch noch nen flexiblen ND zum ”experimentiern” bestellt und schnell erhalten. Von Amazon DE und Amazon UK – Wenn ich die Kaufsumme vergleiche mit einer Hoya Bestellung muss ich schon sagen – hui, Geld gespart = meine Frau wird aber Freude haben!Verpackung einwandfrei, recyciertes Karton als Aussenschachtel fuer die Filterbox, innen gute und starke Kunststoffbox mit Schaumpolster – sehr DICHT – sehr sauber und sehr solid/passgenau. HOYA und co. – da muesst ihr mal hinschauen – und lernen! Denn bei allen anderen rutschen da teuere filter schon mal gerne in der original Plastikschachtel herum. Einige werden kritisieren dass die Filterschachtel etwas knifflig zu oeffnen ist – ich sage: da sind meine Filter sicher – nix geht in der Tasche auf und, die Teile sind schon extrem ”dicht’ = Schoen! HIGHLIGHT: Jeder Filter kommt mit eigenem optischen Tuch! B&W? Hoya? Hoya Professionnal…. nix die Bohne!Die Filter sind zwar duenn, aber mechanisch sehr, sehr sauber gearbeitet, passen perfekt auf alle meine Objektive, mit Metallfassung oder Kunststoffgewinde – spielt keine Rolle. Filterglaeser sind fest und da wackelt nix. Glaeser sind einwandfrei und die Pola’s tun genau was sie tun sollen. Die Gewinde sind so sauber gearbeitet dass die Filter bei den modernen Kunststoff-Objektiven sogar den Eindruck einer ”Verstaerkung” fuer das Filtergewinde des Objektives vermitteln- sauber einzuschrauben, sitzen satt und perfekt ( was bei Kunststoffobjektiven nicht immer der Fall ist). Zudem ist natuerlich der sehr flache Filterring unter Umstaenden ein grosser Vorteil.Habe kurz ein paar Vergleiche mit meinen extrem teuren Hi-Grades, Hoya’s, B&W’s und den Nikon Filtern gemacht. der Ring ist bei denen staerker und dicker – was nicht ein Vorteil sein muss. Optisch sehe ich so gut wie keinen Unterschied . Habe aber bisher auch nur schnell ein paar Testaufnahmen auf max 50/70cm vergroessert. Also da geben die sich fast nix! Also ich kann beim besten will nicht sagen dass diese GOBE Filter unterlegen sind – sosehr dies zu erwarten war und viele im Stillen ”erhoffen” da wir halt schon loyal zu unseren Markenprodukten sind und wie so oft denken: was nix kost’ -is’ nix! Gut, den Schwachsinn koennen wir uns alle in diesem Fall mal grad wegschminken – ich selber allen vorab da ich in dem Bereich ein Schwerverbrecher binSUPER! bis hierhin stimmt alles! Ich weiss nicht wie die GOBE-I’s das machen, aber fuer so wenig Geld eine solch gute Qualitaet mit perfekter Verpackung und dann noch eine paar Baeumchen in Madagaskar – Hut ab! Da heisst es fuer mich ”Markenmufti” – Klappe halten und gut is!Ich habe jetzt von 77mm bis runter auf 52mm alle durchgecheckt und sehe eigentlich keine Schwaechen im normale Alltagsgebrauch. Habe etwas von Grauschleiern und Farbstichen gelesen – also bei meinen mittlerweile 15 verschiedenen GOBE-Filter ist aber auch gar nichts in der Richtung – 1A. Angeblich sollen Kunden mit den POLA filter keine Effekte erzielen – ich denke, dass wie in den meisten Faellen da nicht die Technik, bzw. Optik versagt hat sondern der Anwender. Arbeiten mit POLA Filter kann je nach Situation und Brennweite eine Herausforderunf sein, egal wie einfach es angeblich sein soll.Wenn ich Preis/Leistungs-Vergleiche mache zwischen allen meinen Filtern muss ich klar den GOBE Filtern Platz 1 geben – und wenn ich die Summe sehe die ich bei anderen Filterherstellern hingeblaettert habe ( und eigentlich beim besten Willen kaum Unterschiede sehen kann ) bekomme ich kurz mal Herz-Kreislaufbeschwerden.Obwohl ich absolut kein ”Gruener” bin, hat mich die Idee dass da Baumchen gepflanzt warden schon etwas beruehrt . Macht Sinn und gibt mir irgendwie ein gutes Gefuehl. Beruhigt das ewige Pochen des schlechten Gewissens..? Etwas.Da hat sich mal ein Kollege aus unserer Werbefuzzy-Gemeinschaft wirklich was einfallen lassen. Sehr stimmiges Paket von A-ZAlles Zusammen : keine MInuspinkte – alles absolut im Gruenen – kein Grund NICHT zu profitiern – absolute Kaufempfehlung!Und sollten Sie dennoch irgendwie im Hinterkopf haben – ”Keine bekannte Marke, zu billig, grummel,grumel , etc.” – dann nehmen Sie die GOBE Filter mit SCHOTT Glas.Es ist dann locker sogar moeglich dass im Direktvergleich Hoya und Co. hinten anstehen muessen. Schott kenne ich vom medizinischen und Astronomischen Bereich – die sind da ganz klar in einem Atemzug mit Swarovski, Zeiss und Leitz zu nennen.Und selbst dann noch ein absolutes Schnaeppchen!Ich fuer mich habe grad viel gelernt und bin sehr ”happy”Kaufen! Baumchen pflanzen…….PS: was ich auch noch als nennenswert erachte ist, dass bei jedem Kauf eine neuen Filters man ein (automatisiertes natuerlich) Email mit einem Dankeschoen erhaelt, einer info wieviele Baume ”man” grad wo gesetzt hat usw. Suggeriert einen persoenlichen Kontakt. Gleichzetig ist die Lieferung in allen meinen Bestellung von GOBE immer recht zuegig und kommt praezise wie angesagt oder frueher an. Es stimmt einfach alles an diesem Produkt, egal wieviel man vielleicht dazu neigt doch noch Fehler oder Unzulaenglichkeiten zu finden…… psychologisch sauber gemacht ohne einen bitteren Nachgeschmack zu hinterlassen.

I put a UV filter on every lens I own, and usually invest in a specific brand that costs double or triple the cost of this Gobe filter. However after trying a Gobe UV/Polarizing filter on one lens (separate review published here on Amazon) and being impressed with the quality, I tried a second UV filter for a new lens purchase. It arrived in a flat-pack box (unlike the UV+polarizer which is in a nice round container and a cloth sack).This is the 16-layer UV filter (Gobe also offers a 12-layer). To test the lens I screwed it into my Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 attached to a Nikon Z7 and did a set of photos at all f stops and zoom levels, taking landscape, portrait and test pattern shots with the filter on and off, then examined the results on my high-res computer monitor. What was surprising was that at all f stops and zoom settings the images with Gobe UV filter in place were as sharp and crisp as with the filter off: this is a great filter! On the landscape shots, I could see the images enhanced by the UV filter, improving contrast and making the results slightly sharper (it was morning when I did the test, so some water vapour in the air the UV filter cut through). On the portrait (indoor) and test shots there was no degradation at all by the filter.These Gobe 16-layer filters are half the price of my usual UV filters, and the tests really impressed me. I can strongly recommend these filters to anyone who wants a UV filter and lens front element protection.
