Very easy to install, work well
If you’re a Hive home you can’t go far wrong with these sensors they work really well.

Does not play well with others, until you set it free!
Would probably work well within it’s own ecosystem, however, I already have made a considerable investment in smart lights from another manufacturer. This would not usually be an issue as services such as IFTTT allow for interactivity between smart devices from different manufacturers. It would seem that while Hive devices are quite willing to take an input from another device or service and carryout an action (i.e. if it gets dark turn the lights on, if it gets cold turn the heating on) It’s quite a different story with their output devices, so instead of the motion detector simply sending an alert to another API and that then carrying out an action, the best you can do is get a notification on your phone or tablet and then set up another action to act on receipt of that notification. This is an unreliable and slow method to achieve an outcome which should be simple and straightforward.
    EDIT:-
Anyone who is tech savvy, BUY THIS SENSOR!
Then, set it free with a ZigBee hub and tasmota!
Have connected two off these sensors to a third party ZigBee hub, and both have so much more going on than just the IR motion detector, although they are both different…..
One also has a temperature sensor, a luminance sensor as well as battery and signal levels.
The other has temperature and ‘occupancy sensors and also transmits battery and signal levels!
    OOH THE ZIGBEE!

Works well with other Hive products
This sensor requires a hub this is ok if you already invested in the hive eco system otherwise you’d have to fork out £70+ for the hub. You can use it to get peace of mind when you are out of your house. Use this on your door or window, it detects windows and door opening, so if its opened when you’re not in you get a notification straight away on your smartphone.
Set up and instructions is very easy and straight forward especially if you already have Hive. installation on your door or window is also very easy, the sensor comes with sticky pads, making the install very clean and simple. Whilst the app could be a lot better, it is very simple and easy to use.
Through the app you can set up automation/routines and you can also set up the Hive Door sensor to be used with other Hive integrated products like the Hive smart plug, motion sensor, camera and light bulbs. You can check the status of your door or window and look up activity over the last 24 hours for free or pay £5 a month to look up the last 30 days.
A few reviews complain about connection issues and battery life but I haven’t had any such issues. I have the latest wireless Hive 360 hub, the hub itself has on the odd occasion gone offline for some strange reason, but that’s an issue with the hub not the sensor. I’ve been using the sensor for just over a year and it’s battery indicator on the Hive app shows the battery is still full which is great.
I like this sensor, it’s reasonably priced and works fairly well as a security device, however I can only really recommend it if you’re already locked into the Hive eco system, that way you’d get the most out of it. Hope this was helpful.

    Expensive but reliable
I use these with a custom Zigbee setup not with Hive directly. They are very reliable in terms of connection and performance. The battery lasts a fair time, 3-6 months with regular triggers. Seems stable on Zigbee and doesn’t drop out like similar products from other brands. Looks quite pleasant too especially when fitted into a corner, blends in well.
Seems to trigger well but does get triggered by our cats which was expected. Attaching it to the wall is easy and they seem sticky and strong enough to not fall off, some I’ve had up a few years. Not to big but holds a better size battery so worth the additional size to allow longer times between changing.

Quick set up and easy to use
The Hive range of products are well built and reliable, the sensor is simple to add through the app and quick to configure routines to include other Hive products such as lightbulbs. I have this set up so when I open the front door between certain times it turns on the lights in the lounge.
Works well and would recommend if you require a quick way of triggering simple routines to integrate other Hive products.

    Actions constantly need resetting *update*
*update 31/01/19* The actions seem much more stable now and need resetting less. It works most of the time. Much improved, up from 1 star to 3 stars
I’ve got this set up using an action to turn on a table lamp using a hive plug and a floor lamp using a hive bulb for 30 mins whever in detects motion between sunset and sunrise. It works fine…as long as you don’t touch either light. The moment you turn a light on or off manually or using Google home on Android, the action falls over and stops working. Then I have to go into the Hive app and reset the action by doing the software equivalent of turning it off and turning it back on again. This takes longer than just switching the lights on and off manually…meaning this smart solution cost me more than £20 and has made my life slightly more difficult.
There’s no conceivable reason why the action should crash every time a light is used manually, it should just tick over in the background and take over between the hours it’s required.
I used Hive tech support over twitter to sort out a slightly different issue when I first got the thing set up, and they were very helpful and reset my hub remotely…but this took several hours over several days to resolve. I haven’t got the time to be Hive’s guinea pig to troubleshoot their very glitchy product.
The thermostat is fine, and the plug and bulb would work well enough to turn lights on and off as a deterrent when on holiday (though plugs with timers are much cheaper proven method to do this), but I’d strongly advise against wasting money if you’re after a seamless and reliable smart solution.
