so far so good. Great for encaustic art.
arrived promptly and in good condition…At first I tried it using a “high current” USB quickcharger (5V/2.4A up to 12V/1.5A) but it failed to go above about 60 degrees C.So I went back to the seller’s page and reacquainted myself with the intructions! ( If at first you don’t succeed, then read the bleedin’ instructions!)And once plugged into my 65W USB-C laptop power supply, it began to work as expected, on 20V output mode… just like the seller said!I would first like to use this little gadget for encaustic art, and maybe experimenting with moulding plastics such as hammerbeads and Polymorph, and finally maybe as a preheater for soldering PCBAs.For encaustic art it is looking VERY promising, my encautic wax was liquid at only 105 degrees Centigrade, so it made for very simple handling, and maintaining liquid wax at a precise temperature. Now I just need a metal or glass pallet to hold a few different colours of wax, and a warming mat such as is used for reptiles to keep my paper or glass warm, and I should be much more productive…The first photo shows a puddle of white encaustic art wax in my heating tin.So far I managed to make plastics such as hammerbeads and polymorph very soft & pliable at 185 degrees, but I will probably experiment with higher temperatures to see if I can make it flow (wish me luck!). The second photo shows a couple of hammerbeads reduced to flat discs and a very viscous puddle of polymorph formed by three pellets melting and flowing together to form a heart shape. Polymorph difficult to unstick from the heating tin, however! So I used a Lenovo Power Supply (model number ADLX65YDC3D), with a little metal tin, so as to keep the device clean, and used a USB powered fan to cool the device down after use.So far I would recommend this lovely little temperature controlled heater. So compact, and very quick to heat up and stabilise once used with the correct power supply!

    Temperature
Nice little unit which promises too much for a USB device. My unit couldn’t communicate for the increased voltage so the maximum temperature I could get was 64 degrees Celsius not the 300+ after trying multiple connection sources. I was able to pick up a small circuit board by bare hands after ten minutes on the plate. Can’t recommend.
