Customers say
Customers find the printer easy to set up and use, and appreciate that it scans and prints perfectly. However, the print quality receives mixed feedback, with some finding it great while others describe it as poor. Moreover, the print speed is mixed, with some praising the fast clear prints while others find it very slow. Additionally, the double-sided printing capability is a concern, as the printer does not support automatic duplex printing. While some customers consider it a great value for money, others find it expensive, and the colour quality and size receive mixed reviews.

The Review Guy UK –
Bought on Prime day for a super deal and very pleased with the output
This was a brand i was recommended by a friend as a low volume home office printer / scanner and i was very lucky to spot an offer on Amazon Prime day, the price was just fantastic and allowed me to grab a full set of additional toners and still be under the regular price so im really happy.
It has the wireless print capability, it will connect to apple devices such as iphones, laptops are very easy to do as well, the unit has a simple control panel and a small display window, if you are fairly familiar with printers and basic tech, then this will just take 10-15 mins to get your printer connected to your wifi and the drivers loaded to your computer so that it will offer you all the services available.
My printer has been connected via the supplied cable to a Mac Mini, sailed through with all the steps and the packaging.
Excellent quality of printing, not the largest paper holding tray, but im okay with that. The print queue is easy to find if you are experiencing any print delays or issues, mine is left on all day and night in a home office and doesnt make any noises, so its all good.
The scanner is easy enough to access and with this type of equipment, just making sure you know where the scans are being stored is helpful. I think it has fax facilities as well, but i have no requirement for that so it hasnt been set up or used.
Overall the size is relative to what a laser printer can be today, i remember black and white ones when they first came out, two people to carry them and they were very big.
This colour printer has a small enough footprint to be practical and not too large. I did check the measurements before i bought it to make sure it would fit in the space i had in mind.
Overall, really good piece of kit and the consumables are not expensive either.

Great printer
A laser MFD for this price – especially from a trusted brand like HP – is great value for money. Colour printing is slower than black and white but print quality is really good. Itâs a quiet printer and reproduces bright colours well. Itâs on the heavy side and has a fairly large footprint on the desk, but this is largely down to its many functions. Setting up was easy and I was ready to print within a couple of minutes. Great product!

one month old and it is not working
Itâs incredibly slow and does not print double sided, Also for scanning, each page needs to be manually inserted which takes up a lot of time
I would like to return this and get the full refund

Great fast small office printer
Exactly as described. Delivery was great and the bloke even helped me move it inside. Not the best for photos, but colour text documents and small logos are fine. Scanner works as expected and the wifi seems stable for the whole home

Great value for a colour laser printer
Good quality printer. I had difficulty installing though, I had to phone a computer shop who conected to my lap top remotely, once he had installed it all worked great

Awesome little printer well designed and made but duplex only for Windows
Just like the business printers in the office but much more compact. Print quality is excellent. The display is small but adequate. It works with the generic driver built into my old iMac with an obsolete operating system and there are drivers for all the operating systems supported by Apple®.
There’s no bottom to the casing under the paper tray so you do need to put this on a flat surface or you won’t be able to slide the paper tray in easily and could damage it. The paper tray is probably the least robust component so I think some care is needed loading paper and sliding it in and out. Slightly odd that the paper tray, with it’s clear plastic cover, just hangs 10cm, or so, out of the printer. Searched everywhere to set up duplex printing then noticed in the manual that I downloaded that it’s only supported for Windows. There’s no paper bypass feed to feed in thick card. Being a laser printer there’s nothing to clog up if it’s not used regularly which is why it should be great for me.

Good solid machine thatâs a reasonable price
I have had ink printers since time began but spent a fortune on wasted inks. I have tried originals, refills, third partyâs and invariable the cartridge would either not work or print poorly so Iâd buy another. At sometimes around £20 per cartridge there was a lot of waste.
During lockdown working from home meant I could print work letters to post in an emergency.
These printers come with four large toner cartridges which are similar to commercial copiers in an office. Given them an occasional shake.
Set up is easy and it connects wirelessly to devices so can be in another room.
I Ave had my copier for a year and itâs used quite a lot for the kids, photos and friends who want a presentation document.
The black toner has just ran out and is the first one to go after a years use. The toner was £36 for black and is on one day delivery. Worth shopping around for the various colours. The reference is HP 117a.
Itâs quite large but far superior to a ink printer. Can be a little slow to print but thereâs no rush here.

Nice printer
I’m a teacher so it gets a lot of use and so far it was been really good. My only compliant is that if there is a paper jam it is difficult to get the jammed paper of of the machine

The printer is very excellent, and although its price is high, it is distinctive in printing, faxing, photography and copying.

I purchased the HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw for SAR 1,165, expecting reliable performance and decent print quality, especially from a well-known brand like HP. Unfortunately, this has turned out to be one of the worst printing investments Iâve made.
Print Quality:
The print quality is shockingly low, even for basic tasks. Colors are dull, and the output often looks faded or patchy, which is unacceptable for a laser printer. I expected crisp and clear prints, but instead I get results that resemble a worn-out inkjet.
Frequent Errors:
The number of error messages is endless. Paper jams, “no paper” errors when the tray is full, connection failuresâeven when everything is properly set up. Iâve lost count of how many times I’ve had to restart the printer just to get it to work again.
Unusable Output:
Whatâs even worse is that many print jobs result in completely blank pages or pages filled with random symbols and characters, sometimes just a single line of unreadable text. This happens unpredictably, which makes the printer unreliable for any serious work.
High Toner Costs:
The toner is outrageously expensiveâover SAR 800 for a full set of four colors (117A cartridges). And with the poor print performance, it feels like throwing money away. Considering the cost of both the printer and the toner, the value just isnât there.
Overall Experience:
Iâve always trusted HP, but this device has made me question that trust. Between the low output quality, the constant technical issues, and the high operating costs, I honestly regret buying this printer. Itâs not just disappointingâitâs frustrating. I expected so much more for the price.
Verdict:
Avoid the HP 179fnw if you’re looking for reliability, quality, or cost-effectiveness. Itâs been a frustrating experience from the start, and I would not recommend it to anyone, whether for home or office use.
