First and foremost, a big thank you to Amazon for their fast and reliable delivery, as always.As someone who frequently travels abroad on holidays—both on a surf boards and diving—having a high-quality action camera is essential for capturing my adventures. After a great experience using the Insta Ace Pro 1 on a skiing trip, I decided to upgrade to the Insta Ace Pro 2 for my action cam setup.Successors aren’t always guaranteed to be better, but in this case, Insta has put a lot of effort into refining the Ace Pro 2. The improvements are noticeable and make a real difference in performance.Here’s what stands out the most:Improved Microphone: The newly redesigned mic captures ambient sounds with much better clarity. While the changes may seem subtle, they become evident when playing back footage at higher volumes.Enhanced Low-Light Performance: I often ride in dim lighting conditions, and while the Ace Pro 1 already delivered good footage, the Ace Pro 2 performs exceptionally well in low-light settings, including dusk. This could be due to the built-in AI or upgraded software enhancements. Whatever the reason, I’ve never seen better night-time footage from an action cam.Leica Colour Profiles: The colour profiles are rich, vibrant, and high in contrast, significantly enhancing the quality of recordings.True Wide-Angle Lens: The wide-angle capabilities are outstanding, providing an expansive view that truly lives up to its name.For adrenaline junkies, the Insta Ace Pro 2 is arguably the best traditional action camera currently available. Two thumbs up—this purchase was absolutely worth it!

An Awesome Little Creative Camera!!
It is amazing what you can achieve with these little action cameras. I was a big fan of the Insta360 ONE R/RS range and used a BackBone conversion which allowed me to use vintage lenses to achieve an almost analogue cinematic look. When I bought an Ace Pro, I was blown away by the low-light footage I was getting, and used to soften my footage using a Black Mist filter on the camera and then reworking it in post to soften it even further.When I saw that the Ace Pro 2 could shoot in I-Log, I didn’t hesitate to buy one. Of course there were more upgrades such as adding timecode, additional sensors etc. but this was the upgrade that spoke to me. I do love to colour grade and being able to shoot in this flat profile allows me much more control in post-production than previous profiles.Last week I was shooting in London with my DSLR and had the Ace Pro 2 mounted on the cold shoe on top of my camera. Not only was I able to get some B-Roll of my actual shoot but it also captured some cracking stills, which I took using voice control.Of course, straight out of the box and using auto settings, the results are fantastic but push it a little further and this little camera punches way above its weight – highly, highly recommended!!

This camera is so good for so many different use case scenarios. I still have my Ace Pro and while that is still a great camera, I find this one even better.The ability to connect a DJI Mic 2 and have 2 separate audio tracks (with the Ace Pro 2) is great.The increased frame rates make the videos look super sharp And I find even Starlapse modes look better on the Ace Pro 2.The added wind guard helps reduce ambiant wind noise (mounted on my truck for example) and the extra battery life is a welcome bonus.The photos are screengrabs from video in the app, video is a timelapse at 2 second exposures.

Auch wenn man sich kaum eine Action Cam zulegt, um in erster Linie Zeitraffer aufzunehmen, möchte ich diesen Punkt doch einmal explizit hervorheben – denn auch hierfür ist die Insta360 Ace Pro 2 bestens geeignet.Bisher habe ich Zeitraffer entweder mit Gimbal-Kameras (z.B. Osmo Mobile / Osmo Pocket) oder mit 360° Kameras (z.B. Insta360 X4) aufgenommen. Erstere liefern eine großartige Bildqualität, aber ein recht geringes Sichtfeld. Dafür können sie auf Wunsch bei der Aufnahme schwenken. Zweitere haben natürlich mit dem Sichtfeld kein Problem, benötigen aber mehr Nacharbeit (Reframing) und bieten keine vergleichbare Bildqualität.Und dann die ersten Versuche mit der Insta360 Ace Pro 2:Sie hat ein enormes Sichtfeld (bis zu 157°), auf Wunsch inkl. direkter Entzerrung der zwangsläufigen Fischaugen-Optik hin zu geraden Linien (ok, genau genommen verzerrt die Kamera-Software das „normale“ Bild hin zu einer begradigten Version). Dabei geht etwas vom Sichtfeld verloren, aber das Resultat sieht direkt und ohne Nachbearbeitung sehr stimmig aus.Die Bild- und Lowlight-Qualitäten sind ebenfalls bemerkenswert: als ich eine Zeitrafferaufnahme des Abendhimmels vergaß zu stoppen, fand ich am nächsten Morgen nicht nur einen toll belichteten Sonnenuntergang vor, sondern ebenfalls einen nächtlichen Sternenhimmel, in dem sich die Sternbilder gut erkennbar um den Himmelspol drehten. Beeindruckend!Dabei sei noch erwähnt, dass die Kamera mit ihrem Leica Fixfokus-Objektiv und dem tollen Dynamikumfang gerade für Wetter- oder Landschaftsaufnahmen sehr gut geeignet ist. Wer dagegen gerne Pflanzen in Nahaufnahme beim Wachsen zuschauen möchte, braucht eine andere Lösung: der Nahbereich des Objektivs beginnt bei ca. 37 cm.Wer es sich möglichst einfach machen will, nimmt direkt ein Zeitraffer-Video auf. Wer das letzte Quäntchen Qualität sucht und sich nicht scheut, im Nachgang sehr viele Einzelbilder ggf. nachzubearbeiten und erst anschließend zu einem Video zusammenzuführen, verwendet die Serienbild-Funktion.In beiden Fällen steht eine Auflösung von bis zu 8k (mit 8.192 x 6.144 px) zur Verfügung.Und die Aufnahmelänge? Hängt natürlich von der gewählten Auflösung, der Anzahl von Bildern pro Zeiteinheit sowie der Kompressionsstärke ab. Da sich die Kamera im Betrieb sowohl durch ein USB-C-Netzteil, als auch durch einen externen Akku speisen lässt, ist eine dauerhafte Stromversorgung kein Problem. Und bei einer 8k Auflösung und einem Bild alle 2 Sekunden (das macht bei einer Abspielgeschwindigkeit von 30 fps aus 1 Stunde Aufnahme 1 Minute Film) passen mit dem HEVC-Codec und einer Datenrate von rund 370 MBit/s z.B. rund 90 Minuten Zeitraffervideo auf eine 256 GB SD Karte. Also das „geraffte“ Material von rund 90 Stunden bzw. fast 4 Tagen Realzeit. Das sollte reichen ;)Für meine Motivwahl heißt das derzeitige Fazit:Wenn Zeitraffer, dann Insta360 Ace Pro 2
