Additional storage at a fraction of price
The Kingston DataTraveler 70 – DT70/64GB USB-C Flash Drive in Black offers a portable and convenient solution for storing and transferring data. Here’s a review of its features and performance:The standout feature of this USB-C flash drive is its compact and sleek design. Its small form factor makes it easy to carry in your pocket, bag, or keychain, ensuring that you can have your important files with you wherever you go.The USB-C compatibility allows for fast data transfer speeds, especially when used with devices that support USB-C connectivity. This makes it suitable for quickly transferring large files, such as videos, photos, and documents. The 64GB storage capacity provides ample space for storing a variety of files, from documents to multimedia content. It’s a practical option for those who need to carry important files while on the move. The black color option gives the flash drive a professional and understated appearance, making it suitable for both personal and professional use.The plug-and-play functionality makes it user-friendly, as you can simply insert it into a compatible device and start transferring files without the need for additional software installations. However, it’s important to note that the small size of the flash drive could make it easier to misplace or lose. Additionally, the black color might not be as easily noticeable in certain environments.

fast and excellent value (was slower than pen drives i got ages ago)
Having got a new laptop this easily goes at 100MB/s whereas my review underneath was on an old and slow one; so as it’s about the same price and a good make this is a BARGAIN and still goes strong after using it a bitxxx OLD REVIEW xxx so much for the speed of USB-C and usb 3.2 it’s no faster; thought it might be between usb2 and SSD external drive but nowhere near. Disappointed

    Slow… 95MB/s read… 11MB/s write…
=== CONTENTS ===- Background- Summary- Recommendation=== BACKGROUND ===64gb Flash Drive cost £3.16 (purchased from Rep. Ireland) on July 2023.USB 3.0, 3.1, and 3.2 all mean the “same thing”, unless you see “Gen2″ or Gen2x2″ at the end.”Same thing” meaning they all have the speed of 5Gb/s (GigaBITS per second.. note the small “b” in Gb/s), which equates to 0.625 GB/s (GigaBYTES per second.. note the capital “B”).While the numbers associated with “USB” refers to speed, the letters associated with “USB” refers to the physical shape, eg. USB-C.I purchased 9 of these. Tested all.Tested with a Windows 11 laptop with USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (handles up to 10Gb/s).Flash Drive formatted as ex-FAT for testing.=== SUMMARY ===- Good: Real life capacity (ex-FAT, Windows 11) is 57.6GB. This matches the average discrepancy of around 10% which is expected due to mathematics and such.- Good: Hole for lanyard.- Good: Cap goes on tight.- Neutral: Flash Drive comes formatted as FAT32. Can format it to ex-FAT for better speed, generally. NTFS is even better, generally. The file system should depend on your use case and your operating system.- Neutral: Kingston is a reputable brand, but it has been diminishing lately. I would presume due to disappointing durability rather than fake capacity, etc. Even from my own experience, 3 out of 3 Flash Drives from them had suddenly died within a year (1 was even in storage) and 1 set of top quality RAM (Hyper X) died within 2 years. Still better than unknown brands with unknown backgrounds and intentions.- Neutral: Maximum read 113 MB/s. Maximum write 37 MB/s. Minimum read 9MB/s. Minimum write <0.1MB/s. Rates may fluctuate ~10%. In comparison to other USB 3.2 Gen1 Flash Drives, there can be up to +/-50% differences in maximum read and/or maximum write.- Bad: Real life write speed 500 MB file: Burst speeds of 30-40MB/s, and average 11MB/s, or just under 60 seconds to transfer the file. Filling disk up to capacity also averages 11MB/s. Real life read speed of the 500 MB file averages 95 MB/s. USB 3.2 Gen1 Flash Drives in general average 60-150MB/s read and average 10-45MB/s write, so these Kingston Flash Drives lie very much on the lower range, especially the write speed. In comparison to USB 2.0, average read is 10-25MB/s and average write is 3-10MB/s.- Bad: Light plastic construction with flimsy weak point around the connector. Somewhat expected for the price though.=== RECOMMENDATION ===- For non-critical use cases, yes I recommend. Great value for money and includes Amazon's customer protection benefits. In real life, it's about 2 times slower than the average Flash Drive, and 3 times slower than the fast ones.- For critical use cases, if some loss of speed is not an issue and if you acquire the equivalent value for money as I have, then yes I recommend but with caution. There is a durability risk but you should be able to spot the digital and physical signs much before it fails beyond recovery.- Deducted 1 star for deliberately not disclosing the read and write speed, yet gloating about speeds of USB 3.2 Gen1 (5Gbps) yet it does not reach anywhere near the average expected of 5Gbps, thus creating an intentionally misleading advertisement as such. As Flash Drives are generally used for transferring files, its speed is practically the same as a high-end USB 2.0.

Very slow at writing but perfect for playing music and videos from.
Yes, this is super slow for writing, it’s basically USB 2 with a USB C connection. However, if you don’t mind just walking away and leaving media files to write to the drive, it’s super cheap for storing and playing videos and music from.I use these for playing up to 100Mb/s 4K video files from and they are perfect. I also use them for playing music from as well, perfectly. They are super convenient for using on portable devices that use USB C, I’m using them on my iPad Pro and my MacBook Pro M1 Max.Like I said, super slow for writing but excellent for playing media from, or even storing files on to.Best bit, they are super cheap for a flash drive with USB C.

Read Speeds Are Fine, Write Speeds Are Completely Garbage
Read speeds of this drive average around 100MB/s which is quite good. Unfortunately the write speeds are only around 5MB/s.Only buy this drive if you want to put one thing on it as a backup and occasionally pull it back off. If you want to add new things to the drive frequently to transfer them somewhere else then look for almost any other drive as write speeds don’t get much worse than this.

Great Value but not the quickest.
The Kingston DataTraveler combines impressive storage capacity at so-so transfer speeds, packed within a rugged, durable design that effortlessly keeps your valuable files secure and accessible wherever you go. Just give yourself a bit of extra time for files to transfer and you are set.
