Reliable Sensor with Minor Limitations â Consider the Ecosystem
Iâve used this door/window sensor in multiple locations and have been impressed with its overall reliability and performanceâenough to purchase additional units. It pairs easily with the included hub and reports open/close states quickly and consistently. One of the standout features for me is how well it integrates with Google Home, which I actively use in my smart home setup. The setup was seamless, and it has worked reliably within the Google ecosystem. There is also integration with Alexa and Apple HomeKit, although I haven’t personally used those platforms to confirm performance. The hub included with this sensor can be used with other products from the same brand, making it a great addition to a larger ecosystem of devices. However, it’s worth considering the broader product lineup and how everything integrates before purchasing, especially if you plan to expand your setup. The hub can experience some interference from other nearby devices, which may occasionally affect communication stability. Itâs a minor issue but something to keep in mind if you have many devices in your network.Battery life reporting has been inconsistent. During the winter months, one of my sensors sensor showed single-digit battery levels, but despite that, I havenât changed the battery yet. Now, a couple of months later, the battery level is still around 50%. The fluctuations in reported battery life appear to be largely temperature-related, so Iâm waiting for the sensor to stop working before replacing the battery. While itâs a bit unpredictable, the actual battery life has been good overall.Overall, itâs a solid and dependable sensor with great value, especially if youâre considering it as part of a broader smart home ecosystem.

Easy Setup, Good Range, and Alexa Support
I bought the kit version which includes everything needed to get started, including the sensor, hub, and power supply.Installation was straightforward, guided by clear prompts in the Meross app. However, unlike some other Meross or competing smart home devices, the sensor was not automatically detected. I had to manually search for the product to begin setup, which added a small extra step. In all the setup took less than 5 minutes. The sensor functioned well throughout my home, even transmitting through a couple of thick walls. However, if the sensor is near the edge of the signal range, it may fail to send state changes, and it doesn’t appear to retry. I’m not sure if this is a common limitation of similar devices. The app take 2-4 seconds to update, which is reasonable but it would be nice for it to update instantly locally. The sensor uses a CR2450 battery, but I would prefer it to use a pair of the more common AAA. They claim that the battery life is 2 years, but I can’t confirm that yet.Replacing the battery is slightly challenging due to the tightly clipped case, but the downloadable manual provides clear instructions. The sensor can be used for automations within the Meross app, but you can also configure notification. I enabled the open for 1 minute notification so now I know if the back door has been left open.Sensor data looks like it’s stored for several years and can be exported, but it’s not clear why you would want this.Alexa integration was seamless. Just a simple click in the app, and the device appeared in the Alexa app, ready for use in routines and automations. I was able to ask Alexa “Is the back door open” and got the appropriate response about the device state.Final Thoughts:This contact sensor is a great addition to any smart home! It decently performant, has good coverage in my home, and easy integration with Alexa. While I do think there might be a small improvement to the app setup process, itâs definitely worth considering if you’ve already using other Meross devices or if you’re looking to get started for a low-price.

Longevity / Battery issues let this item down
Iâm writing this review with a heavy heart because I genuinely love the Meross products. However, I recently bought three sets of these, and they all drained the battery within a few days, even after replacing the batteries. This is quite disappointing from a longevity perspective. The appâs details were helpful, and the device worked well when it did, but I needed them while I was away on holiday and was unfortunately let down. Despite this, I wouldnât hesitate to buy other Meross products. Instead, I opted for Aqara sensors, and theyâve been working great even six months later.

Sensor disconnects all the time
Great product when it works. However, Sensor disconnects often and I have to switch it on and off for it to work again. Also, it does not alert you when itâs offline. Or disconnected.

Absolutely fantastic item. Integrates beautifully with the Meross hub and thus Home assistant. I will be buying more for my other doors etc. The thing about Meross is they just work!

Do they work and are they worth the money? The answer is Yes.
First of all, Meross is a very reputable company to deal with. I have used there equipment since they first started and have never been disappointed or let down by them. Whenever I have had a problem they have responded very quickly and get it resolved in very short time. (Post allowing). There are a couple of things that I have reduced my review to four stars for. One is the little sticky pads used to fix the sensors. They’re great until you have to remove them for whatever reason. C’mon Meross, find a better means of fixing, maybe use velcro pads/tape? The other is the hole for the reset pin, it’s too far back which makes it difficult to use in restricted spaces. I frequently just remove the cover and take the battery out and put it back in. The connection between sensor and hub is really far better than expected. I even have one on the garden gate outside and it has no problems at all. I merely fitted them into weatherproof boxes to protect them. Truthfully, they deserve 5 stars but I gave them 4 to draw attention to the minor shortcomings.
