A fantastic desk camera
For anyone thinking this is a webcam, or a streaming cam, it is, but it’s also so much more.
Whilst streaming may be its target market it can also be used for recording talking head YouTube work indoors or take it outdoors and let it follow you.
Yes, decent battery life and excellent AI smarts makes this a bit of an all rounder, on size alone it will never replace my Pocket 3 or ZV-E10 for specific tasks but it does compliment them perfectly.
Sure it isn’t the easiest thing to get your head around at first but once you do muscle memory kicks in and it’s becomes second nature, indoors I tend to control it with the Desktop App for Map, it paired instantly without issue, and outdoors via the remote or more frequently hand gestures.
It tracks like a bloodhound and it takes some serious skills to loose it (you have to hide)
I also noticed that if attached to a selfie stick to be used for vloffing the footage is remarkably stable, I know it resembles a gimbal camera but isn’t marketed as such but am now wondering if some stabilisation is built in..
You can also connect an external microphone which is another vlogging bonus but before you get too excited this isn’t a replacement for a dedicated vlog camera as the price alone puts it in the same ballpark as the market leaders, it is however a very useful backup.
I haven’t tested streaming as this does require purchase of a license key and not something I need given my use case but given it does everything else well I imagine it should excel at this.

Wow this camera puts my previous webcam to shame. Yes it’s expensive, and boy can you tell! It’s probably not necessary to spend this much for personal use only, but it’s an excellent investment for content creators and even businesses. It’s a far sight better than our frightfully expensive commercial meeting room cameras at work (I think they are Microsoft).
The picture quality is impeccable; incredibly clear with fantastic colour definition. It has built-in AI tracking, and this is where it really gets ahead of our office ones. It’s so much more natural and smooth. Watching it back you don’t really notice it moving with you, which is a huge difference from literally every other one I’ve seen that jerks around, zooming in and out for no obvious reason. Even better (and perhaps partly why), you can actually use small gestures to guide it. How freaking cool is that!?
Another massive difference is the inbuilt battery. You can literally take it with you and film anywhere on the go! To me that’s quite incredible for such a powerful camera. It comes with a remote control, which once I picked up the gestures I haven’t really used much. It’s handy to have though, especially if you’re filming someone else (or vice versa). Saying that, the app is more comprehensive and I tend to use that over the remote, but no doubt everyone has their preference, and I can see it being more useful in a commercial or shared setting.
It’s packed with loads of functions, and once you’ve got a grip on the basics I recommended looking up some youtube tutorials online to get into the more advanced and exciting stuff. The manual provides a link to their official videos, but search on YouTube as well because people are doing some truly incredible things with this.

TLDR: A fantastic piece of kit, with high clarity 4K video recording and packed full of cutting edge features. It’s fully portable and the AI tracking is second to none. I can see this making a massive difference to content quality. Very highly recommended.

I took a while before I left this review, because I wanted to really set up this camera and use it for a few days. First of all when I make such a large purchase I begin by going through the reviews to assist in making my purchase decision. I began by going through all of the 1 star reviews, then 2 stars then 3 stars etc.
The 1, 2 and 3 stars reviews were brutal from difficulty in setting up camera, to image quality in regular and low light situations, to the AI tracking function, overheating issues and battery life and camera crashing.
I have used this camera vigorously now for a week, The set up took me literally 10 minutes, the app while not very friendly for none technical people had a full guide on how to navigate through it, the guide was so detailed that even I got annoyed by how much unnecessary information was provided. (I am in no way a technical person). You also have the option of choosing the pro app or a simple version of the app to assist in getting set up and started easier. (that’s just my thought).
The battery time while in use is around 2 hours, maybe a little more depending on what exactly you are doing with the camera at the time, I have an insta 360 web cam and an obsbot Tiny 2 as well and needed a camera that was more portable and not tied down to my desktop. This camera functions both wired via data cable and wirelessly via bluetooth or wi-fi. This makes it a very versatile camera in my opinion. Works with desktop app and phone app as well. Picture quality in my opinion is really good, the colors are rich and it captures really well in low light situations which really surprised me to be honest. I have never had the camera crash whether wired or wireless it performed as advertised.
The one thing I will mention is that the AI tracking can go off if you are moving too fast through the frame, however, the speed of the AI tracking can be adjusted. You can change it from standard, to slower or faster depending on your needs and I think that for the most part solved the tracking issues I initially experienced.
The camera looks robust and the construction looks great, I noticed during the camera rotation that you can hear a slight whir from the motors in the camera (may just be my mind).
One other thing I was concerned about was the status light (probably my fault for not reading ). The status light was pink, (or magenta as I later learnt was the correct name for the color) when I was finished doing the update, when from all of my reading it should have been blue or green. Of course I panicked but some reading (that I should have done before starting) explained that that light also indicated a ready status.
I wish it had optical zoom included instead of or as well as digital zoom. that would have made this camera a 10 out of 10 for me. For the price I paid, $779.00 CAN plus taxes I think that optical zoom should not have been a talking point on whether this camera was good or bad, it should have been included.
I got the version with the wireless remote, the remote was a bit more difficult for me to get used to, pairing was easy and it can be used to control pan and tilt as well as turn off the camera (but not on). You can also control the zoom of the camera as well through the remote. Its a nice addition, not a must have, it all depends on what you are doing with the camera.
Things to take note of, you MUST insert an SD card for any updates to firmware (not included) or if you are using the camera as a stand alone (not connected to computer) for streaming etc.
Camera can be used as a webcam as well and the thought of having a wireless webcam makes me happy.
You can use this camera together with up to 3 others as a network for live viewing and you can change the views as you need throughout the area you are filming based on where you would have set up the cameras. The ideas seem to be endless.
No doubt the Tail 2 has optical zoom (wish I could afford that one) among other goodies, but if you are balling on a budget and you can get past the no optical zoom this camera is robust enough for anyone who isn’t interested in a mirrorless camera. I am thinking of purchasing another one to be able to use to do live showing of my games.
I don’t normally score 5 stars on costly items unless it really deserves it because I believe for the price you are offering an item it had better be worth it, no cutting corners. I take 1 star off of this review, not because the item is defective or glitchy or non functional. I believe this camera has hit almost perfectly on all these areas. The lack of optical zoom was a bad oversight on the manufactures and the AI tracking could do with an update. Other than that, do not let the many negative reviews stop you from experiencing this camera, it is better than the reviews sounds. 4 stars. Good camera, well built and has really nice usable options.
