I just love the Ring alarm products.
After a recent shed break in, which Ring was spot on – alarm went off as soon as the garden gate was open (outdoor gate sensor) and woke me up at 3am BUT stupidly I had no outdoor siren because I decided no one listens to them anyway… But actually, the thieves didn’t want to hang around long and I’m positive if a siren was blaring they would have ran away as soon as it went off.So, I installed the Ring siren outside, great bit of kit super easy to pair to the Ring system & very easy to install on the wall.I’ve installed old school alarms in the past and been scared to death by them going off due to Tampers etc and can generally be a pain in the butt but this is so easy, when disarmed tamper pings on the app but doesn’t scream in your face so your quite free to fiddle and play, don’t need to feel like you have a ticking bomb in your hands up the ladder. It looks tidy, has a glow at night (can be turned on/off) and looks quite swish but I understand some people won’t like it so it can be switched off in the app, and the siren is surrounded in LEDs while will look very obvious to anyone who looks out there windows in the night.Volume control is also quite nice, whole system is just brilliant. Not a ring camera fan, but ring alarms are absolutely spot on.

Ring siren, the missing piece?
**Update after almost two years, siren still going strong and the 3 D batteries and 1 ring rechargeable battery are all still showing full state of charge, I don’t have the logo illuminated at night but is good to see the batteries all still doing well*****Update Oct 23 – D batteries and ring rechargeable battery pack still showing full**Have had the Ring doorbell and gen 1 alarm since Christmas, I did wonder if we would see a dummy alarm siren when I purchased it, the fact that this is a working siren with LEDs is a bonus.Itâs quite a substantial piece of kit, especially once the D batteries are installed, we also have the removable battery pack installed.Upon arrival, the Ring packaging looked very good, so good that I almost didnât find the wall mounting kit (which is in a section of the inner cardboard packaging) once removed from all packaging, you need to remove the screw at the bottom of the unit (which is retained) then remove the wall mounting plate, once this is removed you loosen the three screws on the battery cover and slide the cover up to remove, you can then start the set up process within the app before pulling the battery tab. Setup on mine was completed without issue. You then mount the backing plate in the location you wish to have the siren mounted (best to check WiFi coverage before securing) you then have the choice of using just the included D batteries or with a combination a battery pack, a solar panel or DC hardwire, important to note that if you only use the D batteries the alarm will function normally with the exception of the dusk to dawn illumination, any additional power source will give you that function.A couple of reviews have mentioned it being quite difficult to attach the siren to the mounting plate once wall mounted, itâs a snug fit although this should prevent false anti tamper alerts.Once completed , you can carry out an LED test (very bright red LEDs all around the siren) or an LED and Siren test (Siren has different volume levels from silent to Loudest), you can also configure the dusk to dawn illumination, although I did try it I donât think we will use it, the siren is quite prominent in a well lit street anyway.Should you buy it? There are those that say alarms are a waste of time, maybe they are, although I think I would rather be the only house in the street with an alarm than the only house in the street without an alarm, the Ring system was basically an invisible alarm up till now, however the siren now makes it a more visible deterrent, itâs actually quite stylish too.Edit: for those wondering about the battery life, apparently the D batteries will last up to 3 years based on alarm being activated 4 time per year, Ring also state that the rechargeable battery pack will last around 3 weeks with the dusk to dawn light enabled.
