A Game-Changer for Home Security â Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) Review
I recently purchased the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) and I couldnât be happier with my decision. This little device has completely transformed the way I manage home security and monitor my front door. Hereâs a detailed breakdown of my experience, including the pros and cons:Pros:1. Crystal-Clear 1080p HD VideoThe video quality is outstanding. Whether itâs day or night, the footage is sharp and detailed, making it easy to identify visitors, packages, or any suspicious activity.2. Easy InstallationSetting up the Ring Doorbell was a breeze. The instructions were clear, and I had it up and running in under 30 minutes. Itâs wireless, so no complicated wiring was needed (though hardwiring is an option if you prefer).3. Motion Detection and AlertsThe motion detection feature is incredibly responsive. I receive instant notifications on my phone whenever someone approaches my door, even if they donât ring the bell. The customizable motion zones are a great addition, helping to reduce false alerts.4. Two-Way AudioThe two-way audio is clear and works like a charm. Iâve used it to talk to delivery drivers, guests, and even to shoo away a stray cat from my porch. Itâs like having a conversation at your doorstep without opening the door.5. Night VisionThe infrared night vision is impressive. Even in complete darkness, I can see everything clearly, which gives me peace of mind knowing my home is secure 24/7.6. Compact and Sleek DesignThe doorbell looks modern and unobtrusive. It blends well with my homeâs exterior and doesnât scream âsecurity camera,â which I appreciate.7. Integration with AlexaAs an Alexa user, I love that I can view the live feed on my Echo Show or Fire TV with just a voice command. Itâs seamless and adds an extra layer of convenience.8. Affordable Cloud StorageThe optional Ring Protect Plan (starting at $3/month) is worth it for video recording and storage. Itâs affordable and ensures I never miss a moment.Cons:1. Battery LifeWhile the battery life is decent, it does require recharging every few weeks, depending on usage. If you have a lot of activity at your door, you might find yourself charging it more often. Hardwiring is an option to avoid this issue.2. Wi-Fi DependencyThe doorbell relies heavily on a strong Wi-Fi connection. If your internet is slow or unreliable, you may experience delays or connectivity issues.3. No Local StorageThe lack of local storage means youâre dependent on the Ring Protect Plan for saving videos. It would be nice to have an SD card option for those who prefer not to pay for cloud storage.4. Limited Field of ViewThe 160-degree field of view is good, but it might not cover extremely wide areas. If you have a large porch or multiple entry points, you might need additional cameras for full coverage.5. Subscription for Advanced FeaturesWhile the basic features are great, some of the more advanced functionalities (like video history) require a subscription. Itâs not a dealbreaker, but itâs something to keep in mind.Final Thoughts:The Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) is a fantastic investment for anyone looking to enhance their home security. Itâs user-friendly, reliable, and packed with features that make it worth every penny. While there are a few minor drawbacks, the pros far outweigh the cons. I feel much safer knowing I can monitor my front door from anywhere, and the peace of mind it provides is priceless. If youâre on the fence about buying it, I say go for it. You wonât regret it!Rating: 4.5/5Highly recommended!

Picture quality is amazing
The Ring doorbell looks great, we have an anthracite grey colour door, and it fits in really well. The setup was fairly easy to follow, took a little bit of time, but I think most of that was the charging the battery.Installation onto the doorframe was quite straight forward also.I really like the camera quality, and how well it picks up motion from people, and doesnât get confused with trees blowing in the wind for instance.Sometimes can be a little slow connecting when going on the app to see who is at the door etc. But this could be more to do with the connection to the WiFi?I liked that you could connect to the echo show, however we have not been able to view anything on the show from the Ring doorbell, and I would recommend buying a chime for inside the house, as it doesnât come with one as standard, and only sounds the doorbell on the doorbell itself, this was the biggest negative really. Otherwise it is a really good camera door bell with great field of view.

Worked really well for about 3 months. Then the doorbell fuction stopped working.
Update: Customer support are great. A replacement is on the way hassle free. For 3 months it worked really well. Clear picture and video. The app is responsive and easy to use. The chime clear and was easy to pair. However, the battery ran low as the solar panel is not enough during the winter. Once the battery ran down to about 10% the door bell button stopped not registering presses, it also will not charge properly (the ring on the front just flashes blue and only retains enough charge to boot up in low power mode). The camera, microphone and speaker still work. Its just that it cannot be used as a doorbell. I have tried rebooting it, going into setup mode and paring it with the WIFI network again.

Do what is promised
These video doorbells are great. They are best if you pay for a subscription as then it records and keeps the videos, so you can see who was there. The app has lots of different settings and the doorbells are very reliable. Makes sense to also buy the electrical charger or solar charger too.
