Far Better Than the Google Nest Hello â Super Fast and Reliable
I recently switched to the Ring Wired Video Doorbell Pro after using the Google Nest Hello, and I couldnât be happier with the decision. The Google Nest was painfully slow to load videos, and notifications were always delayed, even though I have a 500mb fiber connection. It was frustrating, especially when I needed to see who was at the door in real-time.The Ring Wired Video Doorbell Pro is a complete game changer. The video quality is incredible with its 1536p HD and head-to-toe view, so I can clearly see everything at my door, including packages on the ground. What impressed me most is the 3D motion detection â itâs super accurate and alerts me immediately, without any delay. Itâs reassuring to know that I wonât miss anything important anymore.Installation was straightforward since itâs hardwired, and the Wi-Fi connection has been rock solid with no buffering or slowdowns. Notifications come through instantly, which is a huge relief after my experience with the Google Nest. The Ring Protect free trial is a nice bonus, and Iâm already considering keeping the subscription because the additional features are worth it.Overall, if youâre looking for a reliable, fast, and feature-packed video doorbell, the Ring Wired Video Doorbell Pro is a no-brainer. Itâs miles ahead of the competition, and I highly recommend it.

Great quality video, flawless installation – well impressed
We did the usual âscare monger review readingâ through different Ring products and settled on the Video doorbell Pro 2. Itâs the plug-in version. Amazon were doing a special deal that week so we also picked up the Chime as well – I think we got a good deal at 159 for both. I really hate faffing around with instructions and techie head melting stuff but this experience was actually okay. You download the Ring app and get all your kit unpacked and ready to go. Our doorbell didnât need charged. We just hooked it up to the power cable, mounted it then went through the instructions until the app told us to turn on the power. We used the corner mount block (supplied with the doorbell pack) for our front door. Everything you need all comes with the box. No problems at all, straightforward mounting. Iâd recommend a small Philips or flathead screwdriver on standby though as the blue Ring screwdriver was fiddly. The app takes you through each stage, including imaging the unique QR code. Youâll find this code on the bell and on the box. We got it all up and running with no problems at all. Our Wi-Fi is ropey at times but we havenât had any issues. The chime box itself is also very straightforward to install – it is small but has a good clear sound. You can change the chime sounds via the app – there are Christmas and Halloween type chimes too. The quality of the imaging is really impressive. We have a long drive up to the house. The sensor in the doorbell picks up movement at the end of it – then itâs all recorded from that point. The remote 2 way talk on the doorbell is great, just activate âliveâ on your app and open the microphone – so easy. It works really well. The night vision is remarkable quality, as is the day. Very impressed with all of it. We also got the code for the free faceplate emailed to us – we ordered it, with free postage with no difficulty ( I know some people had problems with this, we were ok). We will be ordering indoor and outdoor cameras too – the quality of the app, the imaging and sound is just so good. Really recommend it.

excellent resolution compared to prev model, easy set up
Ring Doorbell Pro 2 (Plugin)======================We got this to replace our old first gen Ring Doorbell Pro Hardwired. Our orig installation was set up 5 yrs ago by a certified sparky, I took a punt seeing that I was still getting good voltage using a multimeter on it from the old Doorbell Pro 1 transformer, so decided to get the Plugin version and just use the new one with the old transformer. Having received the new doorbell I can see the only difference between the Hardwired and Plugin versions is that the first comes with a chunky transformer that needs mounting in a DIN rail or appropriate and the other includes the slimmer smaller transformer on a 3 pin plug with a long extension. The newer doorbell is approximately the same size, maybe a smidgen smaller in depth, and mounting holes in the same place. My original doorbell pro did not come with a wedge, so this was a nice addition – I just needed another two holes in the wall for the wedge, and I replaced old doorbell with the new one. It took less than ten minutes – the terminals in both new and old are unmarked and the manual says you can use either terminal for neg/live wire. To be safe I used the same order the leccy man put them in years ago. The security screw while being the same size has also changed its head – the new one uses the slightly larger one used in all the other cameras, whilst the old doorbell uses a tiny 1.3mm star design head. Both the old and new security screws still fit the new doorbell. In use, I was quite surprised by the change – the old doorbellâs view is oriented horizontally, but the new one is oriented vertically. We actually like the new orientation for our particular set up, but I can see others might find the older orientation preferable. Unfortunately you can’t change it, if you want to switch to the older orientation. With the new doorbell, in the phone app, you can actually zoom the camera view up to the sky and to the floor, so it’s better for checking deliveries left on the doorstep.A minor annoyance is with the desktop app – I have been using the Windows desktop app for years – we have one pc permanently on, and on one of the monitors the app is always fullscreened on a screen that’s in portrait orientation so provides a nice dashboard of all the cams. They have been saying the app was going to be switched off since 2020, but it still remains working – however the ring doorbell pro 2 does not appear on it, (by design – they don’t add any newer camera models), so we are stuck with the web app through a browser which whilst it has improved a lot since the old days, is still not as convenient or as good as the desktop app. The phone app is still the best method since it has the best ui (in both the android and ios Ring app), and for some reason the pictures looks way better on the phones Ring apps than they do in the Ring web app through a browser. The Alexa integration just magically worked by itself without any extra setup – after setting up the new doorbell under the Ring app with a slightly different name to the original doorbell, calling any of the Alexa shows in the house to âShow front doorbellâ correctly picks up and displays the new doorbell. Quite impressed I didn’t have to faff about trying to add a new doorbell within the Alexa app. Maybe it auto registered with Alexa because we purchased from Amazon rather than Ring direct?Overall, Iâve grudgingly (steep on the wallet, a little hard to swallow) concluded the new resolution definitely makes the pictures look much better when viewed on the phone app. I bought the doorbell pro 2 on sale whilst it’s currently going for 169.99.The gamble over the years has paid off – the Ring cameras and doorbell have got better over the years with software and firmware updates. Towards the end of the first doorbell’s life though we had started getting a lag between pressing the doorbell and the indoor chimes playing it, repowering and resetting the doorbell would sometimes fix the problem, but it was getting worse so I guess it’s reaching towards the end of its life. The new one whilst still being in the same location as the old one and using the same transformer and wiring as the old one, does not seem to have this problem, I just hope the new one lasts as long if not longer than the old one. As a plus I now have a spare âcameraâ – the old doorbell works just fine as a cam with the new plug in transformer. As with the first doorbell you get an email offering a free faceplate – I never bothered with the first one, which I regretted some years later when the faceplate got scratched during some building work., so it’s worth getting the extra faceplate, even if it’s the same colour as your existing , so that you have a spare should you ever need to replace it.The other minor annoyance is that checking the account details by logging into Ring through web browser, the account details has changed from Protect Plus Sub into a thirty day trial of it (after purchasing the doorbell pro 2), which is not a problem per say, but I still had 5 months left on this years subscription, so I will need to check to see when it switches back to the sub that it doesn’t lose any months already paid for.
