Customers say

Customers praise the headphones’ sound quality, particularly noting the well-controlled bass and effective noise cancellation, while also appreciating their comfort for long listening sessions and adjustable fit. The battery life is impressive, allowing extended use, and the Bluetooth connectivity works flawlessly with mobile devices. However, the build quality receives mixed feedback, with some finding it sturdy for travel while others report poor reliability. Moreover, the touch controls and functionality get mixed reactions – while some like the touch controls, others find them too sensitive, and several customers report issues with the earbuds stopping working. Additionally, opinions on value for money are divided, with some considering them well worth the price while others find them not worth the cost.

The best earphones I’ve ever owned
I recently picked up the Sennheiser Momentum 4 headphones, seeking a balance between professional-grade audio and personal versatility. After using them extensively for work, podcasts, gym sessions, and entertainment, I can confidently say these headphones meet (and exceed) expectations in many ways. Here’s my take:Sound QualityThe Momentum 4 shines across the board:Highs:Crisp and balanced, these headphones effortlessly handle atmospheric tracks while maintaining richness and neutrality on more energetic tunes. The highs are detailed without being harsh.Mids:Vocals are consistently clear and focused, no matter the genre. While there’s a slight recession in the lower mids and a delicate touch in tonal shifts, this neutrality ensures vocals and instruments never feel overshadowed. It’s an ideal choice for those who appreciate a clinical and polished sound signature.Bass: If you love bass, the Momentum 4 will impress. The sub-bass packs a punch, delivering a visceral experience. Despite its depth, the bass remains textured and never overwhelms the mids or highs, making it both exciting and refined.Imaging: While instrument separation is excellent, directional clarity could be sharper. Vocals are precise, but subtle shifts in instrument staging can feel less noticeable in complex tracks.Active Noise Cancellation (ANC)In a noisy office, the Momentum 4 is a lifesaver. Constant background rumbles are effectively eliminated, but sharp, sudden noises occasionally break through. Interestingly, the ANC’s effectiveness improves slightly when facing the noise source—an odd but minor quirk.Comfort and FitComfort is subjective, but the Momentum 4 does a solid job: The plush padding makes them comfortable for long listening sessions, though the fit is a bit tight around the neck when not in use.The earcups rotate well, providing a secure and adjustable fit that works for extended wear.Battery Life and FeaturesBattery life is a standout feature, far outlasting competitors with an incredible lifespan. The quick-charging USB-C functionality is a lifesaver for busy schedules, and the ability to power them off manually is a thoughtful touch.Feature-wise, they strike a balance between simplicity and functionality:The basic EQ and ANC controls are effective and intuitive. The sidetone feature is a small but appreciated addition for calls, and the auto-pause functionality works seamlessly. While not overloaded with extras like spatial audio or deep app integration, the essential features are well-executed, and the app—while sometimes buggy—is user-friendly enough.DesignIs understated and utilitarian. While they won’t turn heads, their discreet design makes them perfect for both professional environments and casual outings. Personally, I appreciate this “keep-it-simple” approach, even if it lacks a premium feel.ConclusionMomentum 4 delivers exceptional audio quality, impressive battery life, and practical features, making them a great choice for both work and leisure. While they aren’t packed with flashy extras, their focus on performance and reliability makes them a standout option. Whether you’re drowning out office chatter, enjoying a podcast, or diving into a bass-heavy workout playlist, the Momentum 4 adapts seamlessly. The ability to switch seamlessly between two devices is amazing to me. I need not have to mess about with the settings on my laptop or phone for them to automatically connect. For anyone seeking headphones that balance professional needs with personal versatility, these are hard to beat.

    Amazing sounding headphones
Bought these as my first over ear, noise cancelling, headphones. After agonising over many, many, many YouTube review videos I decided on these and I have not been disappointed.Firstly sound quality – these blow both the Sony and the Bose headphones I tried out out of the water. Their bass is like a visceral living thing, but this does not drown out the miss which are crisp and clear. By far and away these are the best sounding headphones I’ve ever had.Fit – they fit me perfectly. I have quite a large head and found others didn’t quite feel right. These clamp tightly, but are not overly tight. I wore them for about 12 hours straight during an overnight stay in a hospital and I didn’t notice then feeling hot in any places and eventually I forgot I was even wearing them, to the point that I fell asleep with them on.This now brings me to the next thing – their noise cancellation- I don’t know about any of the others noise cancelling, although most of the YouTube videos said that this was the area that these weren’t as strong. My own experience was that they were perfectly adequate to cancel out the annoying snoring from the person in the bed next to me, and all but the loudest sounds in the wards. I’ve also vacuumed the house while wearing them and couldn’t hear the vacuum.Connectivity – I have had no issues with connectivity with these, with zero drop outs.Charging – I have charged them once to full charge and I’m still sitting at 60% batteryEase of use – their touch controls took a bit of getting used to, but I rather think that was a me problem, not being used to the gestures and touches.Value for money – while these are an expensive set of headphones I think they offer great value for money for the sound you get.

Great sounding headphones let down by a few things
I have had the momentum 2 headphones for years and i recently tried the momentum 3’s. I didn’t like the skinny cups on the 3’s and the headband was uncomfortable on the top of my head after thirty minutes. But, they did look great, with an excellent build quality.Right off the bat, I can say the 4’s build quality is nothing to write home about. They creak and click as you move your head or your jaw and they’re quite hot on the ears. The cups are fairly shallow and since they only twist in two directions, I found it difficult to get them comfortable on both ears. One ear always felt like it wasn’t at the right angle and both ears were always touching against the odd plastic ridge that exists just inside the cups. The headband was comfortable and all-in-all, the headphones were fine to wear for long periods without hurting you. I just could never find that sweet spot. They look, par for the course for the wireless headphones available today, which is rather disappointing, but not a big deal. The sound quality does make up for it. I’ll get to that though.Keeping with the build quality, the headphones have foregone the buttons that came with the previous incarnations, and they now have touch controls. I’m not a fan of touch controls, but like I said, the sound quality was pretty great, so I really gave it my best shot. However, i found that they were too sensitive to the touch. A few times, I switched songs or paused with my shoulder. More times I tried to turn the volume up or down and ended up doing nothing at all, but still recieving the beep announcement of being touched. What finally put the nail in the coffin for me was the fact that the volume doesn’t work in intervals, it’s an actual gauge on the right headset. So I found myself constantly going a little too high or a little too low. Like, I’m walking in the park, I just want to up the volume one “jump”, not three.Something else, you can adjust the active noise cancelling on the right cup, too. But, honestly it just felt like it was giving an already over active touch control ANOTHER thing to do badly when all you want is to turn the music down.A lot of people have claimed the headphones had problems connecting to their phone. I didn’t have any such issues. However, to access the app, it would take forever to connect and then you’d have to wait ages to actually be able to move onto the next screen. The app itself isn’t fantastic. The equaliser only has three adjusters, there’s no way to turn off the ANC altogether. It’s always on, just like the momentum 2. A step back from the momentum 3, which had a very welcome off switch. Hopefully they change that in the future. You can turn off the auto pause feature though, and also a couple of other features. I did that because I like pulling my headphones onto one ear to keep listening while I’m checking what others are saying. From what I tested, auto pause works well. Auto on and off worked well for the most part, but I did have them turn themselves on once, so I always used the power button on the side to be certain. The sound stage is pretty fab. It sounds deep and far reaching, with crisp audio. I messed around with the sad equaliser for a while to test variations, but honestly, that sound pretty great from the get-go. So I didn’t bother with the equaliser for real listening. I love all kinds of music genres and I tried just about all of them on these babies and was not disappointed. They do have a word habit of sounding better after a particular volume level, but the previous momentum’s did that too.The battery life is massive. I changed them once in twenty days I had them, to no issue. Very impressive.Sadly though, I couldn’t get past the creaky, clicking plastic, the uncomfortable cups and the teeeeerrrrriible touch controls. I think if the volume had been at intervals, I would have kept them. Clicks and all.So, for the price, they’re a fantastic pair of headphones. Amazing sound quality, great battery life, reliable Bluetooth. Sort of comfortable.Great, if you can get over the other small things. Why’d you take away the buttons, sennheiser? 🙁

I currently own the Sennheiser Momentum 3 (M3) headphones, but I need an additional pair to replace my old, reliable Momentum 2 (M2), which unfortunately has a battery issue. Even after replacing the battery, the M2 still doesn’t work wirelessly.Initially, I thought there wasn’t much difference between the M3 and the Momentum 4 (M4) in terms of sound quality, as both have the same 42mm driver. However, after switching the Bluetooth codec to aptX Adaptive, which supports high bitrate, I noticed a significant improvement in sound quality while listening to music on YouTube. Despite YouTube not being the best audio source, the sound became clearer with resonant bass. Although I’m not an expert, I really enjoy the sound, making the M4 a worthwhile upgrade from the M3.The M4 boasts a 60-hour battery life, a touchpad, increased comfort, significantly improved Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), and support for aptX Adaptive, which is comparable to Sony’s LDAC codec. On the other hand, my Sony WH-1000XM3 and XM4 support LDAC but don’t deliver the same high-quality sound. We appreciate Sony for its ANC and comfort, but not for its sound quality. In our opinion, the Bose QuietComfort 35 and the new QuietComfort models offer better sound quality than Sony, though they lack the bass presence of the M3 and M4. If we were to consider another pair of headphones, we would likely choose the Bose QC Ultra due to its support for aptX Adaptive.Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference. I prefer Sennheiser for its sound quality, while my wife prefers Bose for its comfort and superior ANC. It’s fortunate that we don’t prefer the same headphones!
