A Sound investment
Although my ZV1 on board mike is excellent some vlogs needed a better quality audio. This one does the trick 100%.

Nice mic with sound quality
You can hear the audio in the video I’ve attached. The big thing about this mic, to my mind, is that you get a hotshoe mountable mic and then a lavalier that you can plug into that. It gives you a front facing mic and a lav that you can use anywhere you like. The sound quality is pretty decent, although the lav doesn’t suit my voice too much. That’s because I have a lot of voice resonance in my chest that makes it sound muddy. Your results will likely vary. The front facing mic sounds pretty good in my opinion. You get some quality accessories, like the dead cat windmuff and the pop filter pieces. They feel better quality than other such mics I’ve had in the past. And the shockmount definitely feels better quality plastic. There’s a stereo and mono option so you can split the two mic inputs or combine them – useful if you have differing input volumes on each mic, so you can edit them independently. For the money I think it’s a very good value package.

Decent price for a decent product
I’ve bought a lot of Smallrig products. All well made. All last. They are not the cheapest.

Amazing value for money but forget the second mic and ‘stereo’ is a misnomer
SmallRig are well know for their rather nicely engineered camera rig accessories along and, more recently, for matte boxes and follow focus devices. Their value for money and quality is first-rate. This is the first time, as far as know, that they have gone into the field of microphones. The first thing you notice is the astonishing value for money: along with the on-camera microphone in a shock-proof mount you get a second lavalier microphone, curly cables for both phones (TRRS) and cameras (TRS), phone windscreens for both mics, a furry windshield for the on-camera mic and a soft bag to keep it all in. This would be decent value WITHOUT the microphones. Can it be any good at all?Firstly, the on-camera mic, is a solidly made, directional mic in a ‘lyre’ type shockmount, similar to the Rycote lyres that are supplied with Rode mics. It looks very well made and robust. How does it sound? A little lacking in bass, but, at this price range, perfectly acceptable. It is genuinely directional, but don’t let that make you think you can be metres away from you subject and still get decent sound (that, of course, applies to all directional mics). The lavalier mic, however, I wasn’t so impressed with: to put it simply, it is just tinny, and I would say not suitable for serious use.A slightly curious feature of this mic kit is what SmallRig call ‘stereo’ – you can plug the lavalier mic into the on-camera mic and use them both together. What you get is actually dual mono – the two microphones are recorded separately on to the left and right channels. This is NOT stereo in any accepted sense but could, nevertheless, be useful. At this price, I can not really fault this kit – even without the lavalier mic, which seems to me a bit of a gimmick. Potential buyers could consider the very similar Rode Video micro, which costs about £10 more and comes with only the TRS cable (the TRRS will cost you another £11) – and, of course, without the lavalier mic. I haven’t currently got the Rode VideoMicro to compare it to, but I have the Rode VideoMic Pro gives a rather better bass response (and adjustable gain and a bass cut), but then it is three times the price.

Good quality and clear sounding microphone system
This wired DSLR/compact systems cameras /mobile phone microphone kit is Intermediate level equipment and very good price. It is well boxed in a nice looking retail carton and clear plastic inner cover. My first impressions as I handled the microphone and receiver unit was that of a luxury light weight feel but yet we’ll made. The plastics, wind sock and anti vibration frame use premium plastics, metals and fabrics etc..However it connects well to the phone using the phone 3.5mm cable and connecting it up was super easy. For camera usage, use the other 3.5mm cable for cameras. Included is a lapel plug in microphone which can work together with the main microphone. This is great for my amateur documentary work and other video shoot jobs. The microphone works very well and my voice is clear as I walk up and down during my live talks outdoors. I don’t walk far, so the distance of the microphone is plenty for me and the wind sock foam helps to curb wind noises. This microphone system requires no batteries and is plug and play. This is so convenient for me and no batteries to worry about.Clipping it to my collar or jacket feels like I’m not wearing a microphone due to its light weight. There’s not alot to it and this kit works well with my Panasonic camera.Simple kit that takes no time in learning and setting up.The dual microphone system works great and I can hear my own voice and the zoom microphones sounds clearly. It helps alot when I’m editing.I am very happy with the product, the technology, its performance and great value for the money.
