Super high quality tripod with a rock solid build
Smallrig always make solid products so I was really happy to get their latest product, this mini desktop tripod.Most people don’t realise just how handy these things are. You get a camera but then if you want to take photos or a selfie you find that you can’t in many places unless you have a huge tripod with you. You can’t put the camera down flat on the table or the surface as then you can’t angle it to where you want to take the photo of! So this is where a tabletop tripod comes into play.Taking it out it’s box when it was delivered was a really surprising moment as you get it in your hands and realise this is absolutely top quality. It’s the same kind of strong, rock solid build as a gimbal tripod so I was delighted with it straight away. It will last you forever that’s for sure.It opens up to virtually flat against the table which is really clever, or you can have it stood like a normal tripod would.It also has a ballhead which allows you to angle your camera exactly where it needs to be. This is the crucial part and the ballhead itself rotates and angles perfectly. Very sturdy and strong and will hold most mirrorless cameras (and definitely phones if you use your phone with it)This is one of the best products Smallrig has built in my opinion, and definitely one that will last you a lifetimeWhat a great product.

Small lightweight tripod or selfie stick with bullhead
This SMALLRIG Mini Tripod is a sturdy feeling lightweight aluminium. It has a detachable ball head in the pack; the ballhead is compatible with arca Swiss plates. The ballhead uses a ¼ 20 thread screw to attach so you will need an adaptor if you want to use most other ball heads; though you can attach a camera direct to it if you want to get lower to the ground.The ball head has two controls: one to adjust the tension on the ball head, and one to enable panning with it. If you want the panning feature there is an easy-to-read angle scale on the head too. There isn’t a level on the ballhead though so you will need another way to get things level. There is a cut out to shoot vertical shots. (Though as the tripod is so light you need to line this up with a leg or it will topple over.) With the ballhead the tripod weighs in at 480g and is 23cm long. It happily holds the 2.3kg combination of camera and lens in the photos.The legs have rubber pads to act as feet and work well on smooth surfaces. There aren’t any controls for variable angles; though I found you can use it close to the ground or with the legs partially opened as the feet give it grip. Its awkward as you need to get the level just right for your shot though. Close to the ground is where you are supposed to use it in tripod mode, and it works great for that. You can also use it as a short selfie stick.It’s not going to be the tripod you use to take an epic landscape shot; but it does open up controlled but very low-level shots so it’s in my bag for my upcoming trip.

Todo está recubierto por un acabado resistente a rayones por lo que la sensación general es de durabilidad.La placa de liberación rápida con tornillo de 1/4″ hace que montar cualquier dispositivo compatible sea facilisimo, permitiendo montar y desmontar la cámara del trípode de forma muy rápida. Aunque las patas solo se abren completamente sin posiciones intermedias, es una base estable con suficiente amplitud estando totalmente desplegado, aunque el haber podido tener algunas posiciones intermedias con topes hubiera dado un punto adicional de flexibilidad.El cabezal esférico de 360° tiene un movimiento suave en todas las direcciones, y se la plataforma giratoria horizontal ayuda a realizar panorámicas sin alterar otras configuraciones. Al principio puede parecer redundante tener ambos movimientos, pero en el dia a dia es útil para obtener tomas precisas y fluidas.Da la impresión de poder manejar equipos más pesados de lo que el fabricante informa (5kg) pero es que en situaciones cotidianas o de usuarios normales es raro llegar siquiera a esos 5 kilos, por ejemplo, usando una cámara con un monitor externo, una batería vmount y una luz, empiezo a acercarme, pero es una configuración que he montado solo para intentar llegar a ese peso, no con un objetivo real de uso.Aunque no es el precio más barato del mercado, la calidad de construcción y las prestaciones que ofrece justifican plenamente la compra.
