Good for DIY User
I bought the Solsop Crimp Tool to add the RJ45 connectors to a Cat 6 ethernet connection I was running. Job completed now and all OK. Most reviews on here rate the tool as good but a few reviewed gave me cause for concern. With some trepidation I set about making a test lead to practice and develop my skills for fitting the connectors and using the crimp tool. I needn’t have worried as all worked out well and the tool performed well. It is worth making a test lead because as I found, some skill is needed to thread the wires into the connectors and to achieve a fully working lead capable of passing the continuity test. Unlike some others, I found that I could achieve a good quality cable cut using the tool, use the tool to cut the cable outer sleeve without damaging the wires. I was also able to make a successful crimp for every connector I fitted.I would offer the following advice to those attempting to make off the cable and threading and crimping the connectors. Hope you find it usefull:1) Make up a test cable to develop your experience prior to proceeding with the actual job2) Don’t be too heavy handed whilst using the crimp cutter to strip the Cat 6 cable. It is easy to apply too much pressure and end up damaging the cable wires, You can always cut back and start again provided you have provided sufficient additional cable length.3) Threading the wires in the right order into the connector is tedious and fiddly. It helped me significantly by ensuring the wires are long enough to be held between the first finger and thumb with sufficient length to enter the guide channels within the connector. Also it is essential to ensure the wires are straight and the twists in the wire are smoothed out. Otherwise you will never get the wires to enter the connector. I used the plastic covered shaft of an electricians screwdriver and my thumb to stroke the wire and pull out the curly bits. Also essential is trimming the wires straight across to ensure they all enter the connector at the same point. Otherwise some of the wires will not enter.4) After entering the wires in the connector, make sure any wires that have not fully entered the connector are pulled through to remove any kinks within the connector. Otherwise these wires will be pulled tight during the crimping and you will not get a clean flush cut end at the connector tip.5) Check that you have the connectors the right way around (the connector spur to be furthest away from you with the brown wire on the RHS), otherwise although the wires are in order they will be wrong way around. I made up two connectors incorrectly because I was focussing too intently on the overall crimping process.6) You must push the crimp tool handle fully closed to achieve a good crimp. It helps to place the tool on a firm surface and push down. Otherwise a poor crimp is the result and the wire cut off will be uneven. Also ensure the connector is pushed fully home into the connector socket within the crimp tool prior to crimping.

Great value for money pack
I was sceptical about the quality of the product after seeing how it sized up against other options on the market, but for the price this is the only piece of kit you need for DIY ethernet set up.It looks larger in the pictures, but really it fits nicely in your hand and it’s easy to use. The locking mechanism is a bit difficult to push with your bare hand, but a tiny bit of wood, plastic, metal, or anything else is enough to push it in.The many cable heads and collars are a very nice addition to the pack and will save you from having to buy those separately, and they’re all pass-through as well so they’re the right pieces for the job.Do note however that the cable tester does not come with a battery. You’ll need to buy a 9v battery separately. In any case, the whole kit looks good and feels good too. Anyone having issues with this is more than likely having a skill issue. Sometimes you just need to cut the cable head and try again folks, that’s the only fix if you mess up the wiring.Separate note, if you’re wondering what the yellow tool is, it’s a punch down tool. If you need to wire up ethernet sockets on a wall, it is more than sufficient to get the job done, you don’t need to buy a fancy one to do that job separately. It’s also decent at stripping cables. On the note of stripping cables however, one thing to be aware of is that your cables will vary in thickness from cable to cable. Some ethernet cables are just bulkier than others, have thicker copper. That’s just the way it is. That means that the cable stripper built in to the crimper can sometimes sever the internal wires if you’re not careful. For each bit of cable you’re using, make a test cut first to see how deep the stripper cuts when you push it down fully, that way you’ll know whether or not you should only press it down partially when yoh strip the cable properly.

Works well
Cable testes doesn’t come with battery. The tool works just fine, I had no problems using it. You have to be careful when crimping it because you can easily miss fit the socket when cutting the cable excess. Used a few times already, very good for the price.

Worked great!
Ordered this to fix a cable that was under the floor so really didn’t want to have to try and replace the entire wire, had previous experience a couple decades ago trying to crimp connectors on and remember it being an absolute nightmare.Aside from the problem that I had of the broken cable was only using 4 of the 8 wires in the old connector and the wires not being in the correct order (although amazingly the device it was connecting still worked), using this tool I managed to connect the new connecter with all the wires in the correct order (had to of course do both ends) and tested it with the included tester which told me I had done it properly.Plugged it back into where it should and everything worked.Yes the tester itself does feel a bit cheap, when it has a battery in and you move the tester about you can hear the battery move slightly. But really what do you expect at this price? It works, does the job its meant to with minimal fuss. The crimping pass through tool works a treat. The section to strip the cable works perfectly on the cable I used it on, the pass through crimping section worked great.Bottom line: Wouldn’t hesitate to use again and recommend to friends. If you are looking for a tool like this just order this one.

Cutting blade needed to be refitted to get working.
Value for money:Product looked good value but crimper didnât cut the wires after fitting the connector. When I inspected the unit it looked like the blade wasnât seated correctly. I undid the blade screw and after refitting it has worked. Iâve only terminated 4 cables  so time will tell whether this continues to work.

There are several items as part of this package. I will review them one at a time.1. Crimpers pros are the multifunction all in one tool.first there are wire cutters and are very sharp and precisely cut the CAT5/5e. The cutters are not meant to cut heavy gauge wire.Next there are two wire strippers, one for round cable and one for flat cable. I can’t speak to the flat wire stripper because I don’t use flat cables but the round CAT5/5e stripper worked perfectly without knicking any of the inside wires. Although I would warn that the round cables can become more oval when handling but just a quick squeeze to reshape the cable before using the strippers works perfectly. Finally you have the actually crimping function. I only used the RJ45 8P8C but there are RJ11 6P and 4P crimps also. The RJ45 connector slid in easy and hit the stopper without pushing through too far. A firm squeeze on the handles crimped the connector. The handles are just long enough to provide good leverage without using two hands to squeeze. The one con for the crimps are it doesn’t have a ratcheting mechanism or a final click when the crimp is complete. But as long as you perform a full closure of the handles the crimp comes out great everytime.2. Testers pros are the ease of use and versatility to use with RJ45 8P and RJ11 6P connectors. The testers attach together which is great when testing a short patch cable and can be reverse attached to keep the test ports on the same side. I used these between three floors without the need to constantly run up and down stairs to check connections. I was not able to find any cons with the testers.3. Stand alone wire stripper – There’s not much to these but it does work well. There are several different stripper positions for different sized cables. It is very easy to slide the cable into a smaller position and knick all the inside wires. Also you don’t want to rotate the strippers around the wire too many times because it will dig in and knick the inside wires. As a bonus on the stand alone strippers is a punch down tool for seating the twisted pairs into a jack assembly. The only con i found with the stand alone stripper is it’s not very heavy duty but to be honest I will use the wire stripper on the crimpers most of the time.Overall at this price this package is a very good deal and would be a good addition to a tool set. One last mention is this would not hold up well for everyday professional use but as occasional use this will hold up great.

I had several ethernet cables around my home that needed new connectors because the retaining clips had broken off, and after looking around, decided on this kit due to the value and high overall ratings. The intention was to stop throwing money away replacing cables, start fixing them instead, and to make some custom-length cables as well.I used the crimper, tester, and connectors over a dozen times now. All my connections work great. I’m very happy. And, the best part, I got this kit at an awesome price. My kit came with…1, A cable tester (MODEL WZ-468L in White).2. 100 Cat5 / Cat5e RJ45 Connectors Ready to Crimp (unknown model) – Yes, I counted them – they were all there.3. A crimping tool (MODEL HT-315 Yellow/Black Handle), which comes with a separate small stripper/cutter.4. A drawstring bag that is not big enough to fit everything, but I assume it was intended for the tester and a few connectors when on your way to the site.Everything came in a sturdy cardboard box, which I will use for safekeeping as this is not a tool I will use daily. But, when I need it, I have it!The star of the show is the crimper, which is heavy-duty steel and fits well in the hand. As for the price, I am very impressed. The tester also works well, and I like that the remote dongle slides off. This is important for testing cables that are already installed, so you don’t have to pull them up from the baseboard, under furniture, in an attic, etc.My minor complaints… (none of which are deal-breakers)- The battery door on the tester was difficult to get open and needed a little nudge from a screwdriver. Also, the battery (not included) was a little difficult to situate to be able to get it to fit. Posts facing the side the wires came out worked the best. Maybe a sticker showing which way to face it would help?- It would be nice if the crimper had a lock to keep it closed.- A nice bonus would be if the cardboard box was instead plastic for storing when not in use, and included pinouts for standard patch and crossover cables, but this info can be easily found online. But, overall, it was a great deal, and I would recommend this kit to anyone.

I used this package, which includes all the tools needed for making Ethernet cable connectors. It was very convenient, and I successfully made a connector using it. The only minor downside is that when crimping the connector, the protruding wires from the RJ45 plug aren’t cut perfectly clean. However, considering the price, this isn’t an issue.
