Under rated by ‘Pros’ – loved by me!
This 1:1 Macro lens, on my ZV-E10 is tremendous fun! I’m not trying to win any prizes, just out to take photos I can enjoy, and this lens gives me plenty.Auto-focus is fast and accurate, and I tweak it to suit (I shoot in DMF, so can manually set focus point) quickly and easily.Continuous focus from 1:1 to infinity also gives the benefit of a ‘nifty 50’ equivalent and the photos produced outside of macro distances are sharp and have good contrast. As a hobby photographer, this lens is worth its price, although I’m certain that the perfectionist photographer would disagree with me.Great value and performance, in my opinion.

It is the lenses you didn’t know you would love so much
I also purchased a 50 mm f1.8 for street photography but with the 2020/2021 lockdowns I have not used it. The macro how ever is always on the camera. I have taken more close up and images with a greater depth of field than I was able to get with the small power zoom “kit” lens. It seems much sharper than the other lenses I have access to. It has been a real joy to use and work with.

    Nice macro lens for hobbyist
Takes some really nice macro images if you have the patience for it. You really need to use a tripod to get the best results and this can be difficult when trying to photograph insects or anything that’s close to the ground. The lack of stabilisation means things have to be very still or the results will be blurry. Taking photos of flowers when they are moving in the wind leads to blurry pictures. So like I say you need patience to get good results. You can get the lens really close to your subject with this lens and it still focuses but the results do get quite soft at the edges of your subject. It can only seem to focus on the middle of the object at close range. This is perhaps just the way any lens works at this range, I’m not an expert on lenses. It works quite well as a general purpose lens as well. I’ve taken some good pictures of the kids in the garden for example. It’s really small and lightweight so a good addition to your kit. It’s an excellent lens considering the price.

    Great value for money
I don’t know how to use a Macro Lens, I even started taking photos using the wrong settings on the camera and only realised at the end of the day. A catastrophe.., I was sure the photos would be completely ruined. They were brilliant. I managed to get so close and take photos of flowers and insects like never before, with the wrong settings. Amazing value for money.

For this size the lens is amazing
When compared with my old Canon 100 macro lens this one is dwarf. It is a little shorter than the kit lens. Decently sharp even wide open. The only real downside is the horrible manual focus. Like the kit lens it can pretty much only be used as an auto focus lens.If you want a macro lens that matches the size and weight of the nex cameras you can do no better. Buy with confidence.

Review of the Sony SEL30M35 Macro Lens
This lens is an excellent addition to your e-mount lens collection. Can take beautiful ultra close-up pictures and videos with precise auto and manual focusing. It provides a very shallow depth of field isolating a minute plane of focus whilst up as close as you can go to your subject, which almost touches your lens glass!!! Great buy for art enthusiasts and filmmakers alike. Just don’t accidentally squash the insects when you get in close!!! Andreas

    Sony 30mm e-mount macro lens
Optically this is an excellent Sony e-mount lens, and the build quality is good. The lens however does suffer greatly from two design flaws, it’s not a stabilised lens, and the focal length is too short. A macro lens by it’s very nature has a narrow depth of field this is illustrated by the ladybird photo when the lens set to an aperture of f/3.5, once the lens is stopped down to f/8 – f/16 the camera would require to be tripod mounted, and the subject light by off camera flash, or other lighting to give a sharp image. Ideally a macro lens would need to have a focal length of 75 – 120mm, with a focal length of only 30mm (45mm full frame equivalent) the lens can cast a shadow on the subject as can be seen on the uncropped grasshopper image. If you can overcome these shortcomings some excellent results can be obtained, see the cropped version of the grasshopper, (f/9) the flower, (f/8) and the Olympus lens (f/16).

One of the best lenses I own. A true 1:1 lens. The image is the same size as the image sensor, APS-C. Very sharp image right out to the edges.
