Easy to fit, sturdy
Doddle to install, just pull them out longer than you need, screw one end into rail, go to other end of rack, adjust length by pushing/pulling as required and screw them in.Mine came with exactly the right number of screws and cage nuts (8) so don’t lose any.Already have a pair of these holding a UPS so knew they would be good. This pair will hold my PC which is in a 4U case.

Exact fattening sizes
Prefect rail for all types of server rack equipment. Markings on the levels assist with placement

It works, but it isn’t great
I have a long (100cm deep) home lab rack and needed to mount a short (45cm) and heavy Cisco switch to it. Since there is very little out there and I already have a StarTech rack, it made sense to continue with a StarTech generic, adjustable rail.Mounting the switch with the rails inwards, and sides pointing upwards, as anyone would reasonably expect, ended up pushing the switch and its mounts upwards by about 2-3mm, making it impossible to attach the whole lot to the rack. The only way that worked was to flip the rails so the sides were pointing downwards and the switch was resting on top of the rails, losing an entire 1U section to an empty slot where the rails now are.To top it off, the adjustable sides have two sets of screws to hold them in place and NONE of them work properly. The rails will slide all over the place as the screws won’t physically tighten any furhter than they are when you receive the product.I am really disapointed in this product but am strapped for options available. I don’t want to buy another one but have little choice if the problem arises with some other future components.

You get what you pay for
I can safely say this is the most pain in the arse rails kit I have ever had to install.

Fiddly, not suitable for racks with internal profiles behind normal front mounting profiles.
At the depth I needed of 590mm the adjustment slots were mostly useless and the middle holes to mount the crossbar(s) were obscured. I fitted this to my RackyRax 12u floor cabinet but the inner profiles behind the normal front profile mounting holes was hitting the bent back top edge of the rails, I had no choice but to take a few mm off the rack rail in the four places to make the mounting holes fit, no too happy doing this and it took ages. It cannot been seen now itâs all fitted though and it has no tweaked it at all, but my 4u server is only 20Kg or so. Hassle but no other choice to mount my server as I could not find any suitable rails.

These are sturdy and extendable, unfortunately the fact that they are doubled in thickness, they reduce the overall width of equipment that can be used. I was trying to support Pylontech US5000 batteries which are 442 mm wide and heavy. These shelves were installed in the 42U rack also from Startech. The overall usable width was only about 338mm.In the end I had to flip them upside down and support from underneath which meant wasting 2U. I expect better quality for this price from Startech. If I’d known about the width restriction, I would have gone for generic, non adjustable shelves from another company which were 1/3 the cost.

Bottom line: If you have a rack, and you have rack mount-able servers, but you built them yourself or you have mixed-brands servers and don’t want to deal with the $$$ OEM rails, you need these rails to mount your mixalottastic gear in the rack.I have several racks at home. Full size, half height, etc. The gear I put in those racks changes every few months. Switches and patch panels are easy. All 1U or 1U. Servers on the other hand are not. Rails for a Dell 2U server are not the same as HP 2U rails, nor SuperMicro 2U rails and so on. If you’ve ever sold your used gear, you know that the OEM-specific server rails you paid $100 for, aren’t worth half that on the used market. And that stinks.A lot of that gear I buy used or build it myself. The gear never comes with rack rails and even if the rails are available, they cost 2x-3x what these rails do and possibly doesn’t even fit in your not-36U-or-more-deep-home rack. These rails are the answer. They are built from heavy-gauge steel. They even come with cage nuts and screws. They may seem expensive, but after you put your first set of these into your rack and cram your home-built, 4U GPU/NAS/AI server box thing that weighs 99 pounds into the rack and there’s no drama, you’ll wonder why you didn’t buy them sooner. Highly recommended.
