Very sturdy
I’ve used quite a few StarTech products over the last 15+ years and never been disappointed. Their products generally seem to be slightly more expensive than some equivalent brands but a bit less fancy or modern looking. I can imagine that would put some people off. However, I think their products are aimed more at IT professionals who are looking for simple, dependable and robust products to use in professional environments.This rack shelf is no different. It’s a very basic design, similar to rack shelves from decades ago but it’s made from heavy gauge steel painted/powder coated in a nice thick and lightly textured finish. It’s definitely heavier and more robust than other similar shelves I’ve used and is overkill for my needs. I have no doubt it will last a lifetime if used correctly.The finish helps prevent equipment from sliding around and the ventilation cut-outs are a good size and nicely spaced. The cut-outs can also be used to pass cable ties or Velcro straps through to secure small equipment to the shelf. That makes it easy to keep equipment secure and neat. It’s also handy that the shelf can be mounted upside down as that makes it useful for some other situations. I guess any rack shelf could be mounted upside down but the design of some similar shelves wouldn’t work as well upside down.I haven’t tried using this at it’s maximum weight limit but I’m sure it would cope well. For much above 20KG you would probably be better with a 4 post rack and shelves that bolt onto all 4 posts, like a server rack.

Works Fine – QA of parts poor.
It would be a 5* review, however, it came bent… I bought the open rack as a quick solution for storing some server bits, and that came with a bent part. I assumed a one off and I tried to rectify it as best I could, and it wroked fine. This shelf arrived and the corner too was bent. The packing was fresh, it appeared brand new… The brand seems like it has QA issues as parts are going out bent and there was no damage on the amazon boxes.

Works as expected. Solid build quality and excellent for appliances that emit lots of heat. Placing directly on the ground with a switch, modem, wifi AP, PSU connected caused me to shock when touching the unit. So I cut 2 pieces of wood that I had laying around and placed the unit on it. No shocking anymore. Have not connected the grounding wire yet – but all good so far.

Very happy with the speed of service – shelf arrived within a few days. Haven’t installed it yet, but the shelf seems pretty solid and heavy duty – no cheap thin sheet metal – very happy with everything.

This shelf provides a great way to support my unrackable network equipment. It is sturdy and can be flipped to get a little ledge so things don’t slip off.Good product, does what it is supposed to do.
