Very sturdy
I’ve used quite a few StarTech products over the last 15+ years and never been disappointed. Their products generally seem to be slightly more expensive than some equivalent brands but a bit less fancy or modern looking. I can imagine that would put some people off. However, I think their products are aimed more at IT professionals who are looking for simple, dependable and robust products to use in professional environments.This rack shelf is no different. It’s a very basic design, similar to rack shelves from decades ago but it’s made from heavy gauge steel painted/powder coated in a nice thick and lightly textured finish. It’s definitely heavier and more robust than other similar shelves I’ve used and is overkill for my needs. I have no doubt it will last a lifetime if used correctly.The finish helps prevent equipment from sliding around and the ventilation cut-outs are a good size and nicely spaced. The cut-outs can also be used to pass cable ties or Velcro straps through to secure small equipment to the shelf. That makes it easy to keep equipment secure and neat. It’s also handy that the shelf can be mounted upside down as that makes it useful for some other situations. I guess any rack shelf could be mounted upside down but the design of some similar shelves wouldn’t work as well upside down.I haven’t tried using this at it’s maximum weight limit but I’m sure it would cope well. For much above 20KG you would probably be better with a 4 post rack and shelves that bolt onto all 4 posts, like a server rack.

Far more robust than I expected. Great rack shelf
I needed a shelf in my small rack, and I’m never 100% sure of some of the brands on Amazon. Took the plunge, because of other good reviews, and have to say I’m incredibly impressed.It’s well boxed for a start, and comes with all the mounting screws and threads. It even comes with instructions too, and there’s not that much packaging either.The best part is simply how thick the material is, and there are no snags. The front and back are nicely curved and even the cut outs for the venting are smooth. For the money, this is an exceptional shelf.*** Pros ***- Very sturdy- Comes with bolts and threads- Quality build with zero snags or sharp metal- Apart from a plastic cover, all packaging was recyclable- Great value- Easy to fit (takes a few minutes tops)- Dimensions were accurate*** Cons ***- None

Much better than alternatives at a similar price point and probably any price point to be honest this is quality. Supporting my quad 405 very comfortably. Wish I had bought these for all my rack shelves.

Excellent quality
Usual StarTech quality: heavy gauge steel, no sharp edges, tough paint. Fits first time without any fudging. Supplied with cage nuts, screws and washers, all in black. The shelf is slotted for ventilation but I use the slots to fix equipment down with cable ties.

A solid choice of rack shelving.
This is a thick and well made shelve for the rack. Reasonably priced. The slots are perfect to attach Smart Home IoT hubs using zip ties. Works well and glad I bought it. Recommend it!

Great strong shelf!
I bought this as I know Startech is a decent brand with products that will last for years.It was cheaper than alternatives and I knew it was a 2U shelf I wanted, but it seems very few people make 2U shelves at the shorter depth for a comms cab – especially at the price I wanted to pay! I’m pleased to say with some careful angle grinding/cutting I was able to get the perfect fitment and am very pleased. I’ve lost some rigidity by cutting off the rear folded edge, however for what I’m putting on it (router and small switch) it will be perfect.

Works as expected. Solid build quality and excellent for appliances that emit lots of heat. Placing directly on the ground with a switch, modem, wifi AP, PSU connected caused me to shock when touching the unit. So I cut 2 pieces of wood that I had laying around and placed the unit on it. No shocking anymore. Have not connected the grounding wire yet – but all good so far.

Seems well built until you try to apply any weight to it. Then it sags a lot. In my case I put an AV receiver (30lbs) on it and the back sagged another U and a half.
