Top quality powered adapter
Another excellent product from startech.I have tried with this with everything from 20yr old drives, to brand new 20TB enterprise drives and it performs perfectly. The IDE feature is nice to have, buty old IDE drives are seized up, which is something it obviously canât help with.No issues with power draw or losing connection, which is why I had to buy this in place of a generic 3.5â powered adapter. The only quirk I discovered and I think it was my system, was that my read/write speeds were severely throttled unless I connected directly to a USB A port on a dock, rather than using a usb-a to usb-c adapter directly into the back of my M1 iMac.

Excellent
Excellent piece of kit. A tad plasticy perhaps but I don’t abuse electronics so should last for years. Works beautifully with both SATA and IDE drivesand data transfer is fast and accurate. Would probably be even faster if my PC had UASP ports instead of just USB3.0 ports. Incidentally, those that have raised criticism about the “special USB cable” seem to have missed the point that this is a high speed UASP cable! Also, there is no need to place an IDE drive on books, protect it with an antistatic bag and having the desk looking like a geek’s paradise! An IDE drive fits into the rear slot of the docking station and is connected with the included data and power cables to the ports on the rear of the docking station. Simple and relatively neat, given the rather messy connections on the rear of an IDE drive compared with those on a SATA drive.

Useful device.
At last a disk reader that works. I have only tried a SATA disk and, apart from a couple of error messages each time the unit is powered up, it responds really well.A negative – the mains lead is about a metre too short. I work on a laptop sitting in a chair right next to a power point and it’s very difficult to get the mains to the unit. (Guess I could buy a 1 metre extension lead, but for the price of this unit shouldn’t have to!)

Handy data recovery tool
Bought this to recover data from a DVR IDE HDD, worked straight out the box with the supplied cables. very fast and easy process. I’ve read other reviews about the quality of this not being the best. So far I have a disagree, build is about right for the price and it does what is says it does.

Startech manufacture quality products, definately recommend them
I have to say, Startech products are simple but achieve near perfection with their quality. Their products will do as per the intended purpose, and do it well.Very good product and would recommend this Startech product, and others too! 🙂

Not Dual SATA
This works fine, but does not allow two SATA drives to be connected at once. A better option is to buy the faster dual SATA version, and an IDE to SATA convertor. This drive allows only one SATA and one IDE to be connected.

… few times for the drive to be recognized but good quality and would recommend it
Sometimes you have to put it on & off a few times for the drive to be recognized but good quality and would recommend it.

Prodotto molto buono. Ottima la costruzione. Connessione USB 3.0 molto veloce. Il PC lo ha subito riconosciuto ed installato. Sono molto soddisfatto.

Me lo quedé porque era reacondicionado y barato, pero una gran decepción que sólo uno de los slots sea SATA.

For Seagate and Maxtor IDE drives, this works well. For a variety of other IDE HDD, it does not.The recommended jumpering can be obtained from (older) online sources for the manufacturers of those drives, but I know the last-used-date of these IDE drives and what I stored on them, using Windows XP to Windows 7 and then-current hardware. It is very disappointing (not to mention inconvenient) that this equipment is not up to scratch.

I had every hard drive that I have ever had in a box with the intention that someday I would add them to a new computer to copy all of my artwork and written music. Never happened until I brazenly type in USB harddrive Dock. Lo and behold this unit appeared first. Kind of funny because even though I worked in the IT industry I never knew they existed and when I described what I wanted to do to another techie they would scrunch up their nose and say that such a beast does not exist. This worked perfectly without any computer complaints or error messages.

Great dock. This contains one slot for SATA drives and one slot for PATA drives. The PATA slot does not have any connections, as you are expected to use the external cables to connect PATA drives to the dock. This is great for folks with a mix of older drives and newer drives.
