Easy way to get lighting moods without hardwiring
Relatively easy to set up but use the tuyasmart app not the tcp one. Once the lights have been learnt you don’t need the app for daily control or set up if you are using alexa. The tuya app will cope with adding multiple lights at once as long as you can get them all to be in pairing mode at the same time. Use the alexa app to to set up groups and routines.These lights have a high starting current so if you have a lot of them (I had 15 in one room) it will trip a b6 mcb (breaker) if they all come on together (especially when doing the power on off 3 times during set up) so you may need a c6 mcb (electrician required).The LED’s give out plenty of light and the beam is quite wide with an even spread of light so no pooling on the floorDimming range is ok but not great, they could do with being able to be dimmed lower but at the minimum setting there is no noticeable flicker. I have set a routine ‘watch TV’ that turns off all but 2 lights in the corners of the room set to 1% & warm which gives the required viewing light level.The alexa control can be glitchy at times and if you lose power to the lights then you may have to reconnect the lights to alexa again using the Tuya app and redo your alexa routines. I would say this is an alexa short-coming rather than the lights.These lights need a constant supply, you can’t turn them on and off using your traditional light switch so you need to remove or not use your existing switches, i have kept one light switch that we never used much to use for putting the lights back into pairing mode after glitches or power cuts. This is also handy when the lights refuse to respond as turning them off and on from the mains sets them to the default 50 % dimming so you are not left in the dark. This could be done from your fuse board but it is more disruptive and shortens the life of your mcb.Overall I believe they are as good as any other brands offerings and most of the issues are due to alexa. I may try Google home one day and will update this review if I do.
