Hardware is good but the software is completely useless. To lock this box remotely you have to buy a gateway. Bought one, paired the two devices and it still doesn’t lock remotely. Returns window has now closed so the whole lot will be going in the recycling

Impressive locking syetem
My review is for the type 2 smart lock.Some other reviews are for different model versions to the one I have.Mine is silver in appearence and has a hoop at the top for passing through an anchor point or handle/lock etc.It is rechargable and arrives with a short USB-C to USB-A charge lead.There is also a USB-C dongle that plugs into the base for factory reset purposes.The lock claims to have a years standby charge. I cannot confirm this presently but it did arrive with a 66% charge and I have no reason to doubt its charge storage.To operate the lock I have an iPhone with the Tuya app installed.Unboxing I inadvertently touched the button at the bottom underneath the keypad which wakes the unit.My phone was in another part of the house when I opened the box and when I collected it was surprised to find that when I launched the app it found the lock instantly from some distance away making the installation side of things extremely easy.What I didn’t find quite so easy was the instruction sheet that is provided and found that the videos on the product page to be by far more informative.The app is very easy to use and is feature rich.I have been so far able to unlock the smart lock by a quick swipe of the app swipe feature. Program temporary passkeys. I really like this feature as you don’t have to have one set passkey that could be remembered by a visitor.Set auto lock after a pre determined time.And after a bit of searching set up a finger print recognition. This illuded me for a while but is avialable via the ‘Member Management’ tab (if only I had read the supplied instruction leaflet. DUH!).A history of events is also available in the app which is a comfort to see if any tampering has taken place.The lock claims to be IP66 rated so should remain water tight.There is a plastic sleeve on the metal hoop at the top to protect it and other surfaces.The bluetooth range is very good with my iPhone.The lock is really well thought out and feature rich.The only lacking option which is probably the most useful would have been to unlock remotely, say from work. This would need to access the WIFI network though and there is no option for that to happen nor Alexa etc.

Versatile, though limited instructions
I’m very pleased with this lockbox. I’ve looked at quite a few smart locks over the last few years, and this the best thought-out I’ve seen.The item I received was exactly as illustrated: a substantial cast box with a silver-coloured coating, a keypad and a fingerprint reader. A large hoop allows it to be attached to a secure point like a railing. To use it, you need the app, which is readily downloadable from the Play Store (and presumably the Apple equivalent).The box would support many use cases – you need your imagination to work these out as the instructions and the app are not very intiutive. Simplest would be a single user who sets it up and then uses their phone to unlock the box as needed, or a personal PIN, or a fingerprint. You can also enable apps of other family members to unlock the box (permanently, or for a set time) in the same way. More interestingly, you can give access to other people, remotely. (So this would work well for a house letting arrangement, say). Either the remote party can get a link to access the lock from an app, or you can send them a PIN, which can be single use or time limited.Other digital locks I’ve used have either seemed shaky in locking terms, or have left me worried about app/communication failures leaving me locked out. This lock has an ultimate backup which is a plug-in key (it uses the USB-C charging slow) which resets everything an unlocks the lock. That’s a really good backup to have.This is really a 4.5* review because the documentation isn’t up to much. I had to work out the subtleties by myself: but the designers do seem to have thought of everything.One caveat: this isn’t a security analysis. A lot of locks are vulnerable to physical attack if you know what you’re doing; I can’t vouch for the security of this one (but on its face it seems fine). Likewise, the digital security is a subtle issue and only a careful analysis could tell you how well or badly it’s doing on that front. All that said, it will surely deter your average casual thief at least, and can be used in a wide variety of ways.

Too small for car or van keys
Sadly I haven’t tested the smart locking features, bought this for vehicle keys but it’s too small. Most of the depth is taken up by the smart tech bits. There’s space for a single door key on a small keyring, but I can’t fit a transit, Skoda or Volvo key in the box as the box won’t close with them in.
Fossil –
The electronic key is missing from the box! This is concern if the lock doesnt open via a code or app swipe for any reason. As per the photos the lock malfunctioned when attempting to open via the app swipe and also using a passcode. After much frustration, the lock unlocked.
