Customers say

Customers find the mouse trap easy to set and empty, with good build quality and safety features that make it more humane than traditional traps, with less danger to pets and children. They appreciate that it’s easy to clean and dispose of dead mice, and some report catching 9 mice over 2 days. However, experiences with effectiveness and value for money are mixed, with some saying it works well while others find it useless and not worth the price. The trap’s ability to kill mice quickly also receives mixed feedback, with some reporting quick kills while others say it doesn’t catch any mice at all.

    Works great… Better than expected.
We are converting an old rural building, still have slate slab floors and walls with holes… Mice are an issue. Was using spring traps, the Big Chease ones, which work well untill the mice are breading at which point the smaller mice simply walk over the trap and nick the penut butter. Overall catch rate drops off to nothing and bait is still disapeering so we know there are still mice to catch.I spent ages looking at electric traps of all sorts and reading reviews.Bought the Big Chease unit, despite a couple of lackluster reviews, as it semed no worse than any other and was a good price from a well known brand.Well I am amazed…I dont think it kills everything that walks in but dosnt hang arround however I suspet this is by design.I think there is a delay to fool the mice into a false sense of security and let them chow down for a few seconds before despatching them. I saw review saying the mice know when electric traps are on, and they very well might, but the delay seems to teach them all is well… Untill it isnt, at which point it is too late.Spring traps were continually tripping and not catching anything, once that had benn down for 24 Hrs, clever mice!, this so far has fooled them entirly…The trap has been down since monday, mid morning… Took it out of th box, added penut butter and batteries and switched it on. Its now Tuesday early afternoon just about to go and take out mouse No 8, No7 was removed less than 15 mins ago… Way more nice than I thought we had having only seen/heard one very occasionally.Had I been in all day yesterday I suspect we would be well into double figures by now… A bit horrifying to be honestTrap No 2 just ordered just now, cant recomend this unit highly enough.I only review very good and very bad things… This is definatly the former…Al

Initially 5 star but after less than a year down to 1 star
I feel I have to write this review as I feel consumers need to be aware that the traps cease to work after a period of little usage. Last year I purchased one of the traps and was astounded at how well it worked. I used to use humane traps but live in the countryside and found myself tripping out 1/2 mile from my house each day to let the little critters go. I cant put down poison as there is a resident owl and I wanted something which would kill the mouse without prolonging a death or maiming the animal. The trap worked a treat, catching at least 6 mice within a couple of days. I decided to purchase another two traps and placed them in prominent areas. Again they worked like a charm. The Spring came along and our lovely Summer and the traps were left down as a precaution. initially, then I removed the batteries and stored carefully until this Winter. I have now baited the traps for 6 weeks, changed the batteries several times and the mice are eating the bait and not one single trap has managed to kill a mouse in that time. I have now come to the conclusion that the traps cease to work after a short period of time.If the company Big Cheese see this review, they may have some advice for me, however I am now on the hunt for another type of trap as this has proved to be an expensive short term fix. If anyone can suggest a good trap please let me know. Thank You

    It worked!
After discovering we had mice I had pest control out. He blocked the gaps /holes by the pipes and laid poison. But the next day i saw a mouse hiding under the fridge!. I bought this trapbaited it with peanut butter (apparently crunchy is best as its more dense but I could only find smooth), put it under the kitchen cabinets where there was mouse activity but 4 days later nothing. So I moved it and put it by the kitchen wall instead. 2 days later it caught the mouse, hurray!!The night before the mouse got caught I also soaked cotton balls in peppermint oil and placed in the corners of the other rooms in my flat to repel the mouse from those rooms. My thinking was it would stay contained in the kitchen and go to the trap instead of exploring around my flat. Hope this helps someone.

    Slowly slowly catchee monkey
Well I never expected to be writing a very positive review of The Big Cheese, but it has worked like a dream. You have to be canny though, and patient. I’ve had a mouse problem (“just one”, said the pest controller) for a very long time and have tried mouse bait myself (that was all the pest controller did), but, like him, without any obvious success. With spring coming, and a possible mouse baby boom, I felt I had to do something more drastic – besides the scratching above my head at night was, frankly, doing my head in.I had some mouse bait (Roshield block bait) that I had been using prior to getting this zapper and I continued to use it with The Big Cheese (much cleaner than peanut butter). What I did was bash up a couple of blocks of the bait into smaller pieces between sealed in newspaper (wearing gloves, very impt), put some into an open container in the loft that the mouse (mice) were used to seeing and eating from, and a few bits into the Big Cheese at the end. I placed the Big Cheese close to the open container, in such a position that it would be easily seen but would not move if a mouse entered. At this point I did not turn it on. The bait in the open container was, predictably, taken quickly, but not in The Big Cheese, since this was an ‘unknown’ to the mouse(mice) and not trusted yet. I refilled the open container. This again was taken. I must have very resilient mice because they don’t seem to die they just keep coming back for more. When the open container was empty a day or so later, I did not refill it; the original bait was still in The Big Cheese. I turned The Big Cheese ON. I figured that with nothing to eat they would tentatively perhaps, try to get the stuff in the bait station. I was right. Next day, one dead mouse! However, I could still hear scratching above my head at night, so I went through the same procedure again, as above. This time it took one day longer (maybe a week all told), and when I checked today, there was the other one. I don’t know if there are any more, but I will re-set just in case. One important thing to say is to use gloves when handling anything that a mouse will get close to and sniff at; they can detect anything human and will stay away. Even emptying The Big Cheese, use gloves (who wouldn’t anyway at this point!) so as not to add your DNA if re-setting. You get the picture? Be patient and remember, slowly, slowly catchee monkey. It worked for me.PS I did take a picture of the first mouse in the trap, which is very visible since it’s see-through, but decided to spare you the spectacle. It was both a moment of triumph to see it there, but also of distaste generally. So do it yourself and have your own experience.

Unfortunately I did not realise this clever trap is designed for INSIDE USE only. My mice problem is outside and this trap is not supposed to be wet – so sadly not suitable for me – and returned
