Not suitable for Robot lawn mower
Bought to find a brake in the cable for the robot lawn mower boundary cable which was on the surface with some grass growing over so hard to see in places, was only useful if you placed the probe tip under the cable, and even with a broken cable it would tone to show it was ok. Brake found by removing/ pulling the cable out and inspecting.

This wire tracer does work but it’s not supremely accurate or easy to use. The device is made from plastic and doesn’t exactly scream ‘quality’ but having said that it is functional. I’ve been using it to trace mains wiring (all power OFF) in a lighting circuit that’s been messed around by 60 years of DIY. To be fair, I could do the same thing by twisting a couple of cables together and using a continuity setting on my meter but thought I’d give this a go.It works OK and is convenient to use when you can get near to the conductors, which you can in my case, but it struggles a little though thicker insulation. Having said that, so do many other similar testers I’ve tried in the past.The instructions are worse than useless. If you imagine what this does and write your own instructions before even ordering you’ll probably do a better job. It’s not hard to figure out but I do wish that manufacturers would put a little more effort in to providing better assistance and information. At a price of £15.99 at the time of this review I do think this is over priced. This is OK but better options are available for less outlay on Amazon.

Help trace cables
This is a simple device for audibly tracing cables. I use cable tracers for working out where network cables run but my existing ones required an RJ45 socket on the end. This tracer though works from bare wires, so it great for cables that have been cut off. I just needed to trim the insulation off 2 wires and could trace the cable all the way back to the patch panel.The biggest problem with this tester (other than needing 2 9v batteries that are not supplied) is that its build quality is questionable. The plastic used and the finish of the edges all screams a budget item. This is a shame, as the device itself works well and does what it sets out. I just have concerns about how long it will last in the tool bag. There is another problem if you are new to this type of tester – the instructions are basically useless. For me, it wasn’t an issue, but for others it could be.
