We had some attractive touch dimmable halogen bedside lights that would each have cost around £45 to replace. When one stopped working and a replacement bulb didn’t work either, the imagined blown bulb was put in a second bedside light to see if the bulb had in fact been okay. As it happened the bulb was faulty and blew the electronic module in the second light, as it had done in the first. Apparently it is a problem with the type.I bought a pair of these switches rather than replacing the lamps. I removed the lights’ inner dimmer components and made a straight through connection to the bulb holder, replaced the halogen 18w G9 bulbs with 1.5W LEDs and put these switches inline close to the lights. It was less effort than going out to buy new lights and much much cheaper and greener too.EDIT:Something I forgot to mention is that the red square shape shown in the photos of the switch is actually a light. It is illuminated and amber whenever mains is applied to the switch. That is very useful. In my experience bedside lights are often plugged into sockets that are concealed either by the bed itself, or other furniture. With these switches, at least if the light does not come on, it can be seen whether or not it is necessary to be checking plugs and sockets or simply changing a bulb. A really good buy.

excellent switch incorporating ‘on’ LED
I needed to install an on/off switch into the lead to a standard lamp. This switch was just what I wanted; it is well made, was easy to fix, and the on/off light in the switch was a bonus. Only one small issue; it would have been nice to have cable grips incorporated into the device at each end. However I was able to work around this. Overall highly recommended.
