These are just OK. They are NOT glass, they’re plastic. The terminals are not great either. Have to apply a lot of pressure to tighten onto two wires. One will nearly always pull loose. Ok if just one set of wires

Switched sockets, with concealed screws, and USB-A+C charging ports, but needs a 35mm backbox
Socket outlets with charging ports, means that you donât need to look for a charger, all you need is a USB-A or USB-C charging cable for your device. The USB ports on this socket, can deliver up to 3A at 5V, 2A at 9V, or 12V at 1.5A, which should allow you to charge your laptop, albeit fairly slowly. However, it will charge your phone etc. faster than a standard (5V) USB-A outlet, and both sockets engage securely with USB-A and C plugs.With regards to the socket itself, itâs a trendy design, with a glass effect front and concealed screws. The recessed neon power indicators arenât particularly bright, and the switches seem a little clunky, but thatâs just my opinion, and itâs down to personal taste.The screw terminals on the sockets work well, without the screws biting into the copper conductors and will happily accept 3 x 2.5mm cables. The twin earth terminals are equally sized, and give plenty of scope for proper earth bonding to the backbox. Please make sure that the power is off BEFORE starting work (check with a neon screwdriver or meter) and when you have finished, make sure that all terminals are fully tightened, to maintain the integrity of your wiring.Note: Due to the electronic components on the back of this socket, it wonât fit in a standard 25mm backbox, so you may need to replace it with a deeper (35 or 47mm) backbox.Costing £19.90 when reviewed, itâs a good build quality and reasonably priced.

Easy fit
Very sleek with no screws showing and very easy to use to replace an existing socket to add USB charging availability. The requirement for the additional electronics behind the main plate did make the unit a bit thicker than would fit back into the original socket’s hole so I had to use a spacer to get it to seat properly (or reference you need a 35mm depth backbox for a flush fit). This means that it protrudes slightly higher than the original but it looks fine and is hidden behind a microwave in the kitchen so it makes no odds.It works fine and the USB output of up to 20W means it will fast charge my old Pixel 4 quite happily. Decent value too at just over £15.

We are gradually changing our sockets to ones that have USB charging built in, so this is a good addition with its 1 x USB A & 1 x C ports, with a maximum charging power of 20w.An unknown brand, it appears to be well constructed, with switches that operate freely and terminals that connect up firmly. The screw less face gives a clean appearance when fitted, easy enough to remove as required with the two lugs underneath.Time will tell how long it lasts, we have had known branded USB sockets fail on the USB ports after a couple of years.Marked as complying with BS1363, which is the relevant standard for 13amp socketsNote you need a 35mm back box to use it, as it has one significant protrusion out the back. Fortunately for us the particular back box we fitted it to had been set deeper into the skirting board so there was sufficient room, just needing some longer screws.
